What’s Old is New AgainNecessity is the mother of invention; this age-old saying is one most

are familiar with, yet the average Joe spends more time worrying about problems than figuring out a solution. At Marine Layer, they did what most of us can’t… came up with a solution. The problem? Finding a shirt that jumps straight to the soft stage, without having to wait years for it to get there. Fast-forward, and Marine Layer is full-blown lifestyle brand known for their absurdly soft shirts (think your favorite shirt that you’ve owned for 10 years), and over 35 retail stores throughout the country, as well as a new denim collection, ML Denim. Marine Layer has also developed over 25 custom fabrics, including a select group that features American-grown Supima cotton.

Proving they’re problem-solving masters, Marine Layer has decided to tackle another issue that may seem to be more widespread – textile waste. It’s not news to hear that the world has a major waste issue, and Marine Layer has decided to do their part to help reduce textile waste,

all the while creating new shirts that stay true to the brand’s credo of producing incredibly soft, premium quality t-shirts. The program is called Re-Spun and it’s the future. The goal is to have people send in their old tees (ANY will suffice) for a $5.00 credit for each one sent in; we can already see the wheels turning, so slow your roll - there’s a $25.00 credit cap but you can send in as many t-shirts as you want. Marine Layer will break down these old shirts to their fiber level, then turn the fiber into recycled yarn. From this yarn, a new shirt is born! The new program already has had success collecting over 26,518 old tees so far, and they want to keep ‘em coming.

Marine Layer’s Re-Spun collection of t-shirts will officially launch in April, but don’t wait until then to do some good. Start sending in your old, beat-up tees now and get ready to shop.

Dear Diary:To say that visiting a Supima cotton farm at the height of the annual harvest is interesting

would be like saying that the Empire State Building is tall. Yes, you learn about how the premium, extra-long staple cotton is grown, the complex harvesting process and all that goes into classing, ginning and bailing American-grown Supima cotton, but the one intangible feeling is awe. You are immediately taken aback by the scope of it all, the majestic landscape, endless acres of beautiful white cotton bolls glowing in the morning sun and the care and passion these family farmers have in growing the finest cotton in the world.

But don’t take our word for it; just have a gander at Save Khaki United’s Supima cotton journal. The lifestyle brand, know for their American-made premium sportswear for men and women, chronicled their farm visit last October, sharing their experience with their customers. The brief history on Supima together with accompanying photos help to convey a story of excellence and beauty; and how those characteristics weave their way into the brand’s collection of premium products.

If you want to be inspired, read the Supima cotton journal by Save Khaki United; but be forewarned, you may be inspired to spend a few bucks on their contemporary American sportswear crafted with Supima.
