Resurrection Sunday Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley, Pastor Alfred Street Baptist Church - Since 1803 - “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.” JOHN 10:17,18 NKJV Hymn of Rejoicing He Lives Alfred Henry Ackley Verse 1 I serve a risen Savior, He’s in the world today; I know that He is living, whatever men may say; I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer, And just the time I need Him, He’s always near. Chorus He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today! He walks with me and talks with me, Along life’s narrow way. He lives, He lives, salvation to impart! You ask me how I know He lives? He lives with-in my heart. Verse 2 In all the world around me, I see His loving care, And tho’ my heart grows weary, I never will despair; I know that He is leading, thro’ all the stormy blast, The day of His appearing, will come at last. Chorus He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today! He walks with me and talks with me, Along life’s narrow way. He lives, He lives, salvation to impart! You ask me how I know He lives? He lives with-in my heart. Verse 3 Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian, lift up your voice and sing Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King! The Hope of all who seek Him, the Help of all who find, None other is so loving, so good and kind. Chorus He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today! Alfred Street, Alexandria, Virginia Alfred Street Baptist Church is a 501(c)(3) organization (703) 683-2222 www.alfredstreet.org As I reflect on the sacrifice that Jesus made for me, I ask myself “How dare I …” Death on the cross was done to the most despicable of all criminals and Jesus had done nothing, except love me. He suffered the nails in His hands and feet, the thorns through His skull, the pain had to be excruciating and He did it all for me. He was wounded for my transgressions, beaten and bruised for me, and all because He loved me. So how dare I not love HIM. How dare I not serve, worship and bow down to HIM. How dare I not tell the good news that Jesus Saves . . . it wasn't the nails! Reflections On the Resurrection A reflection of secured salvation that God would release His son to the cross to bear our sins and then rise again on the third day with all power in His hands . . . it wasn't the nails! In this holiest of times I am both humbled and saddened by the great sacrifice that Christ made for me and how unworthy I am to receive such a gift. Each taunt, each nail driven in His hands and feet, each thorn pushed into his skull, the agony and pain He endured without saying one word. The nails did not hold him-- it was simply His love for me . . . it wasn't the nails!
