SATType: Aptitude Test-attempts to predict future success in college

Purpose: Gives colleges and universities a “measuring stick” to compare prospective students

Format: Math, Critical Reading (Verbal) and Writing

Math is three sections of multiple choice questions lasting 70 minutes. It tests skills through Algebra II. Students should not attempt this test until completing Math I and Math II.

Critical Reading is three sections of multiple choice questions lasting 70 minutes. It tests reading comprehension.

Writing is one 35 minute sections of multiple-choice and one 25 minute essay.

Cost and location: Standard registration fee is $50.00. Additional services are available for additional fees. Test is given at a variety of locations around metro Atlanta and west Georgia. Students DO NOT have to take the test at their high school.

COMPASS, a computer-adaptive placement test created by ACT, measures skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. COMPASS helps determine placement in 2-Year and Technical College courses.

At many institutions, there is no time limit for the tests.

The test is often given on the computer. The computer selects questions for you based on your answers to previous questions. NO experience with computers is needed.

How can I Pass the COMPASS?

Preparing for COMPASS will help you find success. COMPASS is NOT a pass-fail test. It is a college placement test. You cannot fail. The test is simply designed to help you and the college determine whether you are ready to immediately start the program you have chosen or need some additional preparation first.

The three COMPASS placement measures (Mathematics, Reading, and Writing) are designed to assist schools in placing students into appropriate courses. There are potentially six possible placement scores -- one each in writing and reading and up to four in mathematics
