To begin with, I believe statistics can be misinterpreted in some ways. When people
deal with statistics, there are just a few numbers representing for the fact or the
posibility of the conducting research. However, people sometimes misunderstand the
meaning of those numbers. Therefore, statistics need to be examined carefully so that
people can understand what is being said. There are some way to manipulate
statistics. First is leaving some piecies of information out. nd othermisinterpretations can be caused by oversimplification. The portion of the population
is studied, and how many people are studied can also cause errors in statistics.
!esides, some misinterpretations may occur when people try to multiply the two or
more possiblities that might not relate to each other. The "uestion we need to answer
is what matters is how li#ely or unli#ely, relative to each other. In the video, $r
%onelly gives a very nice example of what&s the chance that a man who has a postive
HI' test actually do have that virus( In this case, there are ) posiblitities* the man has
the virus and he does not have it. !ut based on the statistics, the HI' test is ++
giving the accurate result. However, we can-t say that man is ++ having that virus. It is because that number ++ is based on the sample of the research about the
accuracy of the test itself. In this case, we might be wrong if we lin# the accuracy of
the test-s result to the possibility that the man has that virus.
