Five cities have been chosen by the IOC to host upcoming Olympic Games: Tokyo for the 2020 Summer Olympics, Beijing for the 2022 Winter Olympics, Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympics, Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo for the 2026 Winter Olympics, and Los Angeles for the 2028 Summer Olympics.

The Olympics planned for 1940 in Tokyo were cancelled because of World War II.

Olympic sports are contested in the Summer Olympic Games and Winter Olympic Games.

The only summer sports that have never been absent from the Olympic program are athletics, aquatics (the discipline of swimming has been in every Olympics), cycling, fencing, and gymnastics (the discipline of artistic gymnastics has been in every Olympics).

The only winter sports that were included in all Winter Olympic Games are skiing (only nordic skiing), skating (figure skating and speed skating), and ice hockey. Figure skating and ice hockey were also included in the Summer Olympics before the Winter Olympics were introduced in 1924.

How many Olympic Games are there?

Only five sports have been contested at every summer Olympic Games since 1896: Athletics, Cycling, Fencing, Gymnastics and Swimming. In 2012 there were 26 sports contested, and in 2016 there was 28, and 33 are scheduled for 2020

The IOC has decided to put a limit on the number of sports, as well as events and athletes, in the Summer Olympics in order not to increase them from the 28 sports, 300 events, and 10,000 athletes of the 2000 Summer Olympics.

No such limits exist in the Winter Olympics and the number of events and athletes continue to increase, but no sport has been added since 1998. The latest winter sport added to the Winter Olympics was curling in 1998.

From 1924 to 1992, the Summer and Winter Games were each held in the same year, every four years. This four years period is called "Olympiad". The last Summer and Winter Games held in the same year were in Barcelona (Summer) and Albertville (Winter) in 1992 and thereafter these are separated

The Winter and Summer Olympic Games were held in the same years until 1992, after a 1986 decision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to place the Summer and Winter Games on separate four-year cycles in alternating even-numbered years. Because of the change, the next Winter Olympics after 1992 were in 1994.

IN NEWS Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund’ (PM CARES Fund) has been set up as a national fund to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Other Members include Defence Minister, Home Minister and Finance Minister.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Under section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013, every company having net worth of at least Rs 500

crore, turnover of Rs 1,000 crore or more, or a minimum net profit of Rs 5 crore during the

immediate preceding financial year has to make CSR expenditure.

The CSR initiatives of companies thrust on creating value in the lives of the communities around its

areas of business and manufacturing operations.

PM National Relief Funds (PMNRF)

These are the other funds under the Prime Minister. He is the chairman of the fund. The PMNRF is used to support people affected by natural and man-made disasters. This includes acid attacks, accidents and riots. It is also allotted to people for kidney transplantation treatments, heat, surgeries, etc.

Jharkhand state government has launched PRAGYAAM, a Mobile application, on 30 March. The app

was launched by the State Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The app aims to issue e-passes to everyone associated with the delivery of essential services during the nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Rajasthan state celebrated the statehood day on 30 March 2020. Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the people of Rajasthan on its State Day. The people of Rajasthan are known for their courage, bravery, and valour. Rajasthan (meaning Land of Kings) was formed on 30 March 1949. The State was formed when Rajputana was merged into the Dominion of India. The state holds main features including Indus Valley Civilisation at Kalibanga and Balathal, the Dilwara Temples, a Jain pilgrimage site, the Keoladeo National Park among others.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath transferred Rs.611 crore in the accounts of 27.15 lakh Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) labourers of the state. The move comes in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Government launched "COVID-19 National Teleconsultation Centre (CoNTeC)." It was launched by

the Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare Dr. Harsh Vardhan.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the 10th Episode of 'Mann Ki Baat 2.0' on 29 March.

The Prime Minister apologized for the tough decisions the government took to combat against

COVID-19. He stated that the move was aimed to keep the people of India safe.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) stated that the schemes for the merger of 10 state-run banks into

four lenders will come into force from 1 April.
