1 he Commission for Women's Equality of theAmerican Jewish Congress is an activist leadershipgroup whose members are Jewish women and menin government, academia, business, the arts andJewish communal services living and working incommunities all across the United States.

Their goal is to vigorously pursue full and equalrights for women within a Jewish context.

Since its founding in 1984, the Commission forWomen's Equality has had an extraordinary recordof "firsts"--

• First to go public in the New York Times with a full-page ad in support of abortion rights

• First to sponsor the historic conference in Israelwhich resulted in the emergence of a strong women'smovement there

• First to take on a major corporation - at ashareholders' meeting - to urge funding for familyplanning

• First to publish an international Jewish feministdirectory

• First to hold a women's prayer meeting at theWestern Wall

• First to initiate a conference on the economic statusof women in the Jewish community

• First to do a survey of all female rabbis about sexualdiscrimination and harassment
