I Don’t Care Whether You Are Happy David Hall TMA World Director of Learning Deployment

description

A TMA World blog post, from our Director of Learning Deployment, David Hall. David explains why the ROI of learning should be measured by deployment (what the learners do differently as a result of the learning), rather than happy sheets. To find out why there is no ROI without deployment, contact us [email protected]

I Don ’ t Care Whether You Are Happy

But You’re OK

Because Lots of Other People Do.

I Don ’ t Care Whether You Are Happy

In fact at the end of every training course you are

asked to say just

how happy you are…

with the course, the trainer, the venue, the

materials,

your participation, etc.

I Don ’ t Care Whether You Are Happy

We really do care about your

happiness.

Well actually I don’t!

Your happiness is way at the bottom of my list of

key questions for learners.

Page 5: TMA World Blog 2013 I Don't Care Whether You Are Happy!

I Don ’ t Care Whether You Are Happy

I want to know…

• Exactly what have you learned?

• How much has your understanding of the subject increased?

• How much more skilled are you now than before you attended the course?

• How much more confident are you in applying your skills and understanding back in the real world of the workplace?

And above all, way above all these

fine questions, right at the top of

the list, number one in my

interrogation hit parade is…

What are you going to do differently?

Page 7: TMA World Blog 2013 I Don't Care Whether You Are Happy!

I Don ’ t Care Whether You Are Happy

Or to put it more bluntly… are you going to do anything

differently?

And if so what?

When?

Where?

and

How?

When I know that learners have a determination and a

plan to deploy that learning, then, and only then,

will I be interested in how happy they are.

And another thing, whilst I am on the

subject of making learners happy.

Do you know the amount of time

and effort that goes into this in

relation to how much learners make

us happy?

I Don ’ t Care Whether You Are Happy

In my humble estimation I would say

that the providers of learning, right

from the organizers, designers,

facilitators, admin, L and D support and

a whole host of other unsung heroes

concern themselves with making their

passengers on their learning journeys

as happy as kids on Christmas day and

in return…?

I Don ’ t Care Whether You Are Happy

Well that’s enough

from me for today,

we will explore that

question next time.

Let me know what

you think.

Have a happy day.
