� Th d d i Th i di i Th� The survey was conducted in Thrissur district. Thesurvey covered 400 respondents, 221 females and 179males

� The sample consisted of 24 respondents with belowSSLC, 164 with secondary and higher secondary and 175with graduate and 37 with post�graduate qualificationwith graduate and 37 with post graduate qualification

Conclusion� It may be inferred from the study that the public opinion is

are politically motivated and disrupts peaceful life ofcommon man

� People generally do not resist hartals for fear of physicalviolence by the perpetrators of hartal and failure of the

hartal as the new normal and learned to cope with it ontheir own terms
