� The sample consisted of 24 respondents with belowSSLC, 164 with secondary and higher secondary and 175with graduate and 37 with post�graduate qualificationwith graduate and 37 with post graduate qualification
Conclusion� It may be inferred from the study that the public opinion is

against hartals� Vast majority feel that hartals serve no purpose, rather they
are politically motivated and disrupts peaceful life ofcommon man
� People generally do not resist hartals for fear of physicalviolence by the perpetrators of hartal and failure of the

banning them by law� h d i h l l h d� From the study it seems that Malayalees have accepted
hartal as the new normal and learned to cope with it ontheir own terms
