WARNING

The shelter contains voltages that are dangerous if contaced.Before removing either electric cables or components, makecertain electrical power is completely disconnected. Installand connect grounding rods before energizing shelter.

WARNING

Make sure that ECU circuit breakers (one (1) in each S-280shelter or two (2) in each SPAM shelter) on the circuit breakerpanel are in the off position before installing the environ-mental control units.

WARNING

A minimum of four men are required for deploying the expan-dable shelter. When installing the expandable shelter in highwinds, be sure to have at least two men guide each foldout andswingout wall, floor, and roof into place. Serious injury can re-sult from free-swinging units.

CLEANING SOLVENTS

Cleaning solvents may be toxic. Use in well ventilated areas.Avoid prolonged inhalation of fumes or direct contact withskin. Do not use solvents near open flames or in areas wherevery high temperatures prevail. Shelter must have adequateventialtion when clearing solvents are being used.

COMPRESSED AIR

Do not direct compressed air near or directly against skin. Donot use air under high pressure or from a source not having amoisture trap when drying parts. Do not roll bearings withcompressed air.

CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Section I.

1-1. SCOPE. This manual is for use in operatingand maintaining the aviation intermediate mainte-ance shop sets managed by TSARCOM. It providesnecessary information about the shelters, storagefor the tools and equipment, and working space forpersonnel performing aviation intermediate main-tenance of aircraft material.

1-2 . M A I N T E N A N C E F O R M S A N DRECORDS. Maintenance forms and records whichare required to be used are listed and explained in DA PAM 738-751.

1-3. ADMINISTRATIVE STORAGE. Refer toTM 740-90-1 for storage requirements.

1-4. CALIBRATION. There are several items inthe AVIM-Division shop set complex which requireperiodic calibration, for example, torque wrenches,dial indicators, etc. This equipment should be cali-brated in accordance with procedures and practicescontained in TB 43-180.

GENERAL

1-5. QUALITY ASSURANCE/QUALITY CON-TROL (QA/QC). There are no quality assurance/quality control manuals pertaining to this material.

1-6. DESTRUCTION OF MATERIAL TO PRE-VENT ENEMY USE. Refer to TM 750-244-3 forprocedures concerning destruction of this material.

1-7. REPORTING OF EQUIPMENT IM-P R O V E M E N T R E C O M M E N D A T I O N(EIRs). Any suggestions pertinent to im-provement, safety or correction of unsatisfactoryperformance of equipment and materials are to bereported. EIRs will be prepared on DA Form 2407(Maintenance Request). Instructions for preparingEIR's are provided in DA PAM 738-751 (Func-tional Users Manual for the Army MaintenanceManagement Systems Aviation (TAMMS-A)).EIRs should be mailed directly to Commander,ATTN: AMSAV-MPSD, 4300 Goodfellow Blvd.,St. Louis, Missouri 63120-1798. a. Base frame and brace installation for thework table is illustrated in drawing 4920-EG-070,figure D-13.

CAUTION

The base frame and brace installationform an integral part of the worktable and should not be removed.

b. The assembly and installation of the GeneralPurpose Table is illustrated in drawing 4920-EG-072, figure D-15, and is secured to the shelter floorfor shipping only.

c. The environmental control unit (ECU) for theSPAM is secured to its support through the openingin the foldout end wall of the expandable shelter foroperation and secured to the floor of the SPAMusing bracket assembly (item 2, drawing 4920-EG-071, fig. D-14 for storage and shipment. For instal-lation instructions refer to paragraph 3-3f TM 10-5410-224-14 for details.

d. The environmental control unit (ECU) for theS-280 shelter is secured to its support (item 11, fig,

D-1) through the opening in the back wall of theshelter for operation and secured to the floor usingbracket assembly (item 6, fig. D-1) for storage andshipment.

e. Fire extinguisher and bracket as illustrated indrawing 4920-EG-075, figure D-17, for the SPAMshelter are secured to the wall left of the cargo door.

f. The Creeper 4910-106-7834 is used to makethe tool tray assembly per drawing 4920-EG-069,figure D-12.

g. Unpacking and cleaning of tool components ofshop set will be performed as follows:

(1) Components of the tool set will normallybe boxed and strapped to the shelter floor. Removeweb straps securing boxed components of the shopset.

(2) Unpack components of shop set from box-es. Remove preservative material from tools and

d. The environmental control unit (ECU) for the S-280 NOTEshelter is secured to its support (item 11, fig, D-1)through the opening in the back wall of the shelter for It will be the responsibility of the

operation and secured to the floor using bracket aviation unit repairman to unpack,

assembly (item 6, fig. D-1) for storage and shipment. check items for quantity andserviceability, and stow them indrawers of the appropriate work table.

e. Fire extinguisher and bracket as illustrated indrawing 4920-EG-075, figure D-17, for the SPAM shelter h. The shelter power cable is stored under the workare secured to the wall left of the cargo door. table of each shelter.

f. The Creeper 4910-106-7834 is used to make the tooltray assembly per drawing 4920-EG-069, figure D-12.

g. Unpacking and cleaning of tool components of shopset will be performed as follows:

i. Environmental control units, which are TOE items,would normally be issued separately, however in theAVIM Division shop sets the ECU’s will be overpackedin each shelter and issued with each shop set.

(1) Components of the tool set will normally beboxed and strapped to the shelter floor. Remove webstraps securing boxed components of the shop set.

(2) Unpack components of shop set from boxes.Remove preservative material from tools andstore tools in the drawers of work table. Repair orreplace damaged or missing material.

(3) Remove packing and preservative materialsfrom any machines and other components of the shopsets.

NOTE

Inspect all material after cleaning fordeterioration of damage.

A minimum of two persons are need-ed when moving or lifting theenvironmental control unit. EachECU weighs approximately 270pounds.

j. Components of each AVSCOM managed shop setare listed and illustrated in Supply Catalog SC4920-99-CL-A91.

e. Additional shelter data for SPAM is in TM b. The power distribution panels axe provided to10-5410-224-14 and additional data for S-280 shelter is in isolate shelters electrically from each other, to provideTB 750-240. a means of safely connecting and disconnecting

individual shelters without disturbing others in thecomplex, and to progressively load the generator. Referto drawing 4920-EG-077, figure D-19, and figure D-21.

When transporting a shelter by air,avoid dropping the shelter or suddenjerks on the lifting rings, sinceserious structural damage will result.Shelters are not to be air dropped.

1-12. ELECTRICAL POWER.

a. Electrical power is transmitted from 60 HZ mobileelectric generators through the power distributionpanels to the shelters by heavy-duty power cables.

Be sure generators are set for 208V 3phase operation.

c. Supplied ground rod and grounding cables provid-ed with generators and shelters are intended for fielduse. If shelters and/or generators are operated on a hardstand, drive ground rod as close to each shelter and/orgenerator as possible or use other suitable existingnearby ground. DO NOT SPLICE GROUND CABLE.If supplied ground cable is too short, use at least No. 6AWG wire of suitable length. Always keep ground cablesas short as possible. For complete information, refer toTC 11-6 grounding techniques.

1-13. SPARES, REPAIR PARTS, SPECIAL TOOLSAND OTHER SPECIAL SUPPORT EQUIPMENT.

a. There are no special tools and equipment requiredfor maintenance of the portable/expandable shelters.

b. Repair parts are listed in Appendix C.

CHAPTER 2

OPERATOR INSTRUCTIONS

Section I. INITIAL SET UP

2-1. SET UP UPON INITIAL RECEIPT. Referto TM 10-5410-224-14 for specific set up proceduresfor SPAM shelters.

a. Shelters should be positioned with power cablelength, tactical deployment, and interaction be-tween related shops in mind. Position SPAM shelterwith power connector (personnel door end) towardthe generator.

CAUTION

Do not drag SPAM shelters into posi-tion. Skids may separate from rubbershock mounts.

b. Position S-280 shelters in the most level areaavailable, since these shelters do not have integralleveling jacks.

c. Position generators and power panels withpower cable length, tactical deployment, and noisefactors in mind.

NOTE

Each shelter is supplied with a 100 ftpower cable. The tool crib containsthree spare power cables and threecable connector assemblies, which al-lows cables to be connected in series.Power cables to any one shelter shouldnot exceed 300 feet.

d. Using the masons level stowed inside eachSPAM shelter, level the shelter, utilizing levelingjacks, in all directions before opening the fold-outpanels.

NOTE

If shelter center section is not leveledproperly, rubber panel seals will bescuffed off resulting in rainwaterleakage.

e. Fold out and set up SPAM shelters in accord-ance with TM 10-5410-224-14, which is suppliedwith each shelter.

f. Install ECUs on fold down shelf assembliesand remove hex head drain plug on left rear loweredge of the unit. Plug in ECU power cable con-nector.

g. Since S-280 type shelters have no means forleveling the shelter, adjust turnbuckles on the ECUshelf assembly to provide a slight backward tilt al-lowing condensation to run out rear drain (es-pecially during air conditioning mode).

h. Drive ground stakes and attach grounding ca-bles

to shelter and generator ground posts.

Serious shock hazard exists in any un-grounded shelter or generator andmay result in severe personal injuryor death.

Connect pigtail leads marked L0, L1, L2, L3 torespective generator terminals. Be sure generator isset for 208V/60HZ 3 phase operation. Refer to draw-ing 4920-EG-077, figure D-19.

Operation of the shelters on voltagesother than 208V/60HZ 3 phase will re-sult in damage to electrical equip-ment.

Connect power cables to each shelter and tothe power distribution panel. Route power cables sothey are not driven over by vehicles. Then plug thepower distribution panel cable into the generatorpigtail.

CAUTION

Do not allow cable connectors to lie inlow spots or puddles.

k. Start generator in accordance with applicableprocedures/and TM 5-6115-569-15 and adjust forproper voltage and frequency.

l. Close (turn on) generator main circuit break-er, power distribution panel circuit breakers, and allshelter circuit breakers.

m. With suitable voltmeter, check all electricaloutlets for 110 VAC and check all lights for properoperation.

n. Place ECU evaporator fan switch in the high

speed position and turn main selection switch to“VENT” position. If fan does not operate vigorously,move the selector switch to the off position immedi-ately, as this indicates a phase is reversed. Do notoperate the ECU until wiring is checked by a qual-ified electrician. Help with electrical problems canbe found in the maintenance section of this manual.

Section II. PREPARATION FOR

2-2. PREPARATION PROCEDURES.

a. Store all tools, secure any loose components toshelter floor.

CAUTION

Loose or unsecured items can causeserious damage to honeycomb shelterwalls.

Section IV. SPECIAL

2-4. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS.

a. When the AVIM-Division Complex is deployedon a concrete surface, driving ground rods will notbe practical. Approved ground pads already in-stalled in the concrete may be used as a substituteground,

d. Prepare the SPAM shelter for movement inaccordance with TM 10-5410-224-14.

c. When SPAMS are set up side by side, alter-nately set one shelter back from the next to avoidhot air from adjacent ECUs being discharged oneach other. Refer to figure D-21 for deployment ofAVIM shelters.

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

Section I.

3-1. SHELTER MAINTENANCE. Maintenanceprocedures for the SPAM shelter are given in TM

Section II.

3-2. FIXTURE MAINTENANCE.a. Workbench/Storage Cabinet. The work-

bench/storage cabinet is part of the tool set and islisted in Supply Catalog SC 4920-99-CL-A91. To re-place the cabinet, remove hold down bolts and hard-ware. Remove the unserviceable cabinet and re-place with a serviceable one. Reinstall the bolts andhardware removed from the old cabinet. The drawertype storage cabinet, screen type storage cabinet,and welding table may be replaced following thesame procedure used for the workbench/storagecabinet.

b. Brackets and Supports. To replace the fireextinguisher bracket remove the bolts and hard-ware holding it to the wall and replace with ser-viceable bracket. Reinstall bolts and hardware re-moved from the old bracket. ECU shipping frames,oxygen, and acetylene tank brackets are replacedusing the same procedure followed for replacementof the fire extinguisher brackets.

c. Repairs and Replacement of the ECU ShelfAssembly.

(1) Repairs for the ECU shelf for the SPAMshelters are covered in TM 10-5410-224-14.

(2) Repairs and replacement of the ECU shelfassembly used on the S-280 is as follows:

(a) The ECU support cable assembly maybe replaced by drilling out the two blind rivets, re-moving the two screws and removing the hook from

the “D” ring on the shelter. Position the new cableassembly and install the appropriate hardware. Besure to crimp the hook over the “D” ring to secure it.

(b) The ECU support shelf itself may be re-placed by removing the “D” ring as previously ex-plained and removing three screws. Reverse thisprocedure to install a new shelf support.

(c) The hinge may be replaced by removingthree screws and drilling out 13 rivets. Rivet the re-placement hinge to the shelter and reinstall threescrews.

d. Compressed Air Panel. The compressed airpanel connector installed through the wall of the S-280 shelters may be replaced by removing the twobolts securing it to the mounting plate. Apply seal-ant to the replacement connector and reinstallmounting bolts.

e. Hydraulic Mule Wall Mounted Connector.The hydraulic mule connectors installed throughthe wall of the hydraulic shop can be replaced by re-moving the hardware securing them to the paneland installing serviceable connectors.

f. Storage Cabinet stacks. If the storage cabi-net stacks in the tool crib require replacement, re-move all contents of both stacks. Unbolt and removethe top braces between the two stacks. Next, removebolts securing the stack to the floor and remove thedefective stack. Install the replacement stack by re-versing the above procedure.

Section III. MOUNTED ITEMS

3-4. ELECTRICAL REPAIRS AND REPLACE-MENTS. Electrical repairs and replacements re-quired on SPAM shelters is covered in TM 10-5410-224-14. Electrical repairs and replacements on theS-280 shelter is as follows:

All electrical repairs or replacementshould be performed with electricalpower disconnected by an aircraftelectrician or other qualified person.

a. Shelter Power Cable. Maintenance pro-cedures is as follows.

(1) The shelter power cable should be care-fully inspected for breaks in the jacket insulationand corrosion of the electrical contacts.

(2) The connectors may be replaced using astandard blade screwdriver to remove the connectorcovers and loosen the screws holding the wires inthe contacts. Be sure to insert the wires in the samecontact on the new connector that they wereinstalled in on the old connector. Connectors shouldbe wired in accordance with instructions given indrawing 4920-EG-058, figure D-2.

If connectors are improperly wired, aserious electrical shock hazard mayresult.

(3) Following repairs or replacement of partsto the shelter power cable, it should be checked withan ohmeter for proper connections between con-nectors and to insure there are no shorts betweencontacts.

NOTE

The ground contact is bonded to theconnector case.

b. Light Fixtures. Light fixtures should be in-spected for broken lamp contacts or other damage.The lamp and protector may be replaced by re-moving the screws holding the retaining straps tothe light fixture. To replace the light fixture assem-bly, first turn off the 20 amp circuit breaker thatsupplies power to the lights in the circuit breakerpanel. Using a trouble light to illuminate the shel-ter, remove the lamp and protector as previously de-scribed. Remove the cover of the fixture, disconnect

the power wires, remove the nut holding the conduitconnector to the fixture and remove the screws andwashers securing the fixture to the ceiling. Feedpower wires through the end of the new fixture andsecure to the ceiling with screws and washers. In-stall conduit connector nut, connect power wires, in-stall fixture cover, lamp, lamp protector and re-taining straps. Turn circuit breaker back on andinsure the new fixture is operating properly.

c. Power Inlet Panel.

(1) Inspect the power inlet panel for looseground stud, corroded power inlet connector anddamage electrical outlet cover and connector. Re-place the power inlet connector by first de-ener-gizing and removing shelter power cable. Next re-move screws and power inlet box cover. Remove fourbolts, washers and nuts which hold connector topanel and, using a standard blade screwdriver,loosen contact screws and remove wires from con-tacts.

NOTE

Be sure to note which wires are con-nected to which number contact. Referto the shelter wiring diagram in draw-ing 4920-EG-056, figure D-1, for assis-tance. Install the new receptacle by in-serting and securing the wires first.Then install the mounting hardwareand reinstall the power inlet panelcover.

(2) The ground stud may be replaced by de-en-ergizing the shelter, removing the ground stakewire and removing the power inlet box cover as pre-viously described.

NOTE

As an extra safety precaution, removethe shelter power cable from the powerinlet connector.

(3) Loosen the nut securing the stud and re-move the damaged stud. Install a new ground stud,secure the inside ground wire, and tighten themounting nut. Replace the power box cover, fastenthe ground stake wire outside, and reconnect theshelter power cable.

(4) Replacement of the weatherproof outletcover should be preceded by turning off the circuitbreaker supplying power to the outlet.

screw holding the weatherproof cover plate and re-place. If the outlet needs replacement, de-energizethe shelter and remove the power inlet box cover aspreviously described. Remove screws and nuts hold-ing the outlet to the panel. Remove the wires fromthe connector and discard the damaged connector.Install wires on the new connector, install mount-ing hardware, and weatherproof cover plate. Rein-stall power box cover and energize the shelter.

(5) Repairs to the power inlet panel is limitedto replacing loose rivets and repairing dents andminor sheet metal punctures.

d. Circuit Breaker Panel.

(1) In the unlikely event the entire circuitbreaker panel requires replacement due to exten-sive damage to the case or electrical damage to thebus bars, a new panel maybe installed. De-energizethe shelter and remove the power cable from thepower inlet connector. Use a trouble light to illu-minate the shelter. Remove the cover and discon-nect all wires.

NOTE

Put a masking tape label on each wireas it is disconnected to aid in properre-assembly.

(2) Loosen and remove all conduit connectorretaining nuts. Remove four screws holding thepanel to the backing plate. Install new panel usingthe sheet metal screws removed from the old panelor new ones by snapping them into place in thesame position as on the old panel. Connect wires aspreviously labeled and refer to the shelter wiringdiagram in drawing 4920-EG-056, figure D-1, Ap-pendix D. Replace breaker panel cover and re-ener-gize shelter. Check all circuits for proper operation.

e. Circuit Breakers. Circuit breakers are re-placed when they become physically damaged orfail electrically to operate properly. De-energizeshelter and remove shelter power cable. Illuminatethe shelter with a trouble light. Remove circuitbreaker panel cover. Disconnect the wire attachedto the circuit breaker and remove the breaker bypulling outward and to the side. Snap in a propersize replacement, reconnect the wire and reinstallpanel cover. Re-energize the shelter and check cir-cuit for proper operation.

f. ECU Power Cable.

(1) Check cable for signs of fraying, cracks,etc.

All repairs/replacement to the ECUcable/connector should be performedwith the 30 amp circuit breakerturned off.

(2) The power connector may be repaired byresoldering broken wires. Minor damage to thecable jacket may be repaired by wrapping with plas-tic electricians tape. To replace the cable and con-nector, remove the box cover plate and disconnectthe cable wires. Loosen the cable clamp and removecable. Install new cable and tighten clamp. Connectcable wires to shelter wiring and solder connector tofree end of cable in accordance with shelter wiringdiagram in drawing 4920-EG-056, figure D-1, testconnector with an ohmeter for shorts between con-tacts.

CAUTION

Be sure that power is off before test-ing any circuit with an ohmeter.

(3) Test connector with a suitable voltmeterfor proper phase connections.

NOTE

ECUs have 3 phase motors which willmalfunction if proper phase con-nections are not maintained.

g. Inside Electrical Outlets. Turn off circuitbreaker supplying power to the inside electrical out-lets. Remove cover plate, remove screws securingreceptacle to box and remove wires from receptacle.Install new receptacle connecting wires the same ason the the old one. Install new receptacle con-necting wires the same as on the old one. Installmounting screws and cover plate. Turn on circuitbreaker and check circuit for proper operation.

All electrical repairs or replacementsshould be performed with the poweroff by an aircraft electrician or otherqualified person.

h. Power Distribution Panel.

(1) The power distribution panel should be re-placed as a unit when damaged extensively.

(2) The power cable may be replaced by re-moving the cover of the weatherproof junction boxand labeling the phase connections of the No. 6gauge wires from the cable wires. Save the wire tap

connectors and their plastic covers. Unsolder thecable wires from the connector pins and remove oldcable. Install new cable as shown in drawing 4920-EG-077, figure D-19. Confirm pin and wire con-nections with an ohmeter and solder new cable toappropriate pins of the connector. Strip cable wireinsulation, install wire tap connectors and re-installNo. 6 gauge wires to proper connections. Doublecheck with an ohmeter that appropriate pin con-nections and phasing has been accomplished. Installplastic wire tap covers and tape with electricianstape.

Proper phase connections must bemaintained. Refer to drawing 4920-EG-077, figure D-19. Equipment dam-age, malfunction, personnel injury ordeath may result from improper wir-ing or phasing. Only qualifled person-nel should attempt electrical repairs.

(3) Circuit breaker boxes may be replaced byremoving the cover from the weather proof junction

3-5. MAJOR TOE ITEMS. Maintain all majorTOE items in accordance with applicable Technical

box and disconnecting the four No. 6 gauge wiresfrom the main cable. Loosen the conduit fitting andremove four bolts holding the box to the frame. Re-move breaker box and wires as a unit. Install pipingand wires on replacement box. Insert wires thruconduit and bolt breaker box to frame. Secure con-duit fitting and apply sealant to fitting. Attachwires to main cable taps according to wiring dia-gram in drawing 4920-EG-077, figure D-19. Be sureproper phase/pin connections are maintained. Re-install cover on weatherproof junction box.

(4) Replace circuit breakers by removingscrews securing front panel of circuit breaker box.Remove front panel and disconnect wires from de-fective circuit breaker. Mark each wire with amasking tape flag labeling proper connections. Re-move four screws securing breaker to box and in-stall replacement breaker. Reconnect wires anddouble check connections with an ohmeter. Switchcircuit breaker "off" before re-installing box coverand screws to insure proper operation of interlockmechanism. Install shelter cable and check for posi-tive operation of the circuit breaker box.

APPENDIX B

MAINTENANCE ALLOCATION CHARTSection I. INTRODUCTION

B-1. GENERAL.

a. This section provides a general explanation ofall maintenance and repair functions authorized atvarious maintenance levels.

b. The Maintenance Allocation Chart (MAC) inSection II designates overall responsibility for theperformance of maintenance functions on the iden-tified end item or component. The implementationof the maintenance functions upon the end item orcomponent will be consistent with the assignedmaintenance functions.

B-2. MAINTENANCE FUNCTIONS.

a. Inspect. To determine the serviceability of anitem by comparing its physical, mechanical and/orelectrical characteristics with established stan-dards through examination.

b. Test. To verify serviceability and detect incip-ient failure by measuring the mechanical or elec-trical characteristics or an item and comparingthose characteristics with prescribed standards.

c. Service. Operations required periodically tokeep an item in proper operating condition, i.e., toclean (decontaminate), preserve, drain, paint, or re-plenish fuel, lubricants, hydraulic fluids, or com-pressed air supplies.

d. Adjust. To maintain, within prescribed lim-its, by bringing into or exact position, or by settingthe operating characteristics to specified parame-ters.

e. Align. To adjust specified variable elementsof an item to bring about optimum or desired per-formance.

f. Calibrate. To determine and cause cor-rections to be made or to be adjusted on instrumentsor test, measuring and diagnostic equipment usedin precision measurement. Consists of comparisonsof two instruments, one of which is a certified stan-dard of known accuracy, to detect and adjust anydiscrepancy in the accuracy of the instrument beingcompared.

g. Install. The act of emplacing, seating or fix-ing into position an item, part, or module (com-ponent or assembly) in a manner to allow the properfunctioning of an equipment or system.

h. Replace. The act of substituting a serviceable

like part, subassembly or module (component or as-sembly) for an unserviceable counterpart.

i. Repair. The application of maintenance ser-vices or other maintenance actions to restore ser-viceability to an item by correcting specific damage,fault, malfunction or failure in a part, subassembly,module (component or assembly), end item or sys-tem.

j. Overhaul. That maintenance effort (services/actions) necessary to restore an item to a com-pletely serviceable/operational condition as pre-scribed by maintenance standards (i.e., DMWR) inappropriate technical publications. Overhaul is nor-mally the highest degree of maintenance performedby the Army. Overhaul does not normally return anitem to like new condition.

k. Rebuild. Consists of those servires/actionsnecessary for the restoration of unserviceableequipment to a like new condition in accordancewith original manufacturing standards. Rebuild isthe highest degree of material maintenance appliedto Army equipment. The rebuild operation includesthe act of returning to zero those age measurements(hours/miles, etc.) considered in classifying Armyequipments/components.

B-3. EXPLANATION OF COLUMNS IN THEMAINTENANCE ALLOCATION CHART.

a. Column 1, Group Number. Column 1 listsgroup numbers, the purpose of which is to identifycomponents, assemblies, subassemblies and mod-ules with next higher assembly.

b. Column 2, Component/Assembly. Column 2contains the name of components, assemblies, sub-assemblies and modules for which maintenance isauthorized.

C. Column 3, Maintenance Functions. C o l u m n3 lists the functions to be performed on the itemlisted in Column 2. (For detailed explanation ofthese functions, see paragraph B-2).

d. Column 4, Maintenance Level. Column 4specifies, by the listing of a “work time” figure inthe appropriate subcolumn(s), the lowest level ofmaintenance authorized to perform the functionlisted in Column 3. This figure represents the activetime required to perform the maintenance functionat the indicated level of maintenance. If the number

of complexity of the tasks within the listed mainte-nance function vary at different maintenance lev-els, appropriate “work time” figures will be shownfor each level. The number of manhours specified bythe “work time” figure represents the average timerequired to restore an item (assembly, subassembly,component, module, end item or system) to a ser-viceable condition under typical field operating con-ditions. This time includes preparation time, trou-bleshooting time and quality assurance/qualitycontrol time in addition to the time required to per-form the specific tasks identified for the mainte-nance allocation chart. The symbol designations forthe various maintenance levels are as follows:AVIM-operator.

e. Column 5, Tools and Equipment. Column 5specifies, by code, those common tool sets (not indi-vidual tools) and special tools, TMDE and supportequipment required to perform the designated func-tion.

f. Column 6, Remarks. This column shall, whenapplicable, contain a letter code, in alphabetical or-der, which shall be keyed to the remarks containedin Section IV.

NOTE

Excessive or extensive damage beyondA VIM repair or replacement capabil-ity should be returned to depot foroverhaul.

APPENDIX CREPAIR PARTS AND SPECIAL TOOLS LIST

Section I. INTRODUCTION

C-1. Scope.

This appendix lists spares and repair parts re-quired for performance of Aviation IntermediateMaintenance (AVIM) of the shelter assembly, P/N 4920EG060, P/N 4920EG061, P/N 4920EG062,P/N 4920EG063, P/N 4920EG064, P/N4920EG065, P/N 4920EG066, P/N 4920EG067,P/N 4920EG068 and power distribution panelP/N 4920EG077. It authorizes the requisitioningand issue of spares and repair parts as indicatedby the source and maintenance codes.

C-2. General.

This Repair Parts and Special Tools List is di-vided into the following sections:

a. Section II. Repair Parts List. A list ofspares and repair parts authorized for use in theperformance of maintenance.

b. Section III. Special Tools List. Not appli-cable

c. Section IV. National Stock Number andPart Number Index. A list, in National ItemIdentification Number (NIIN) sequence of allNational Stock numbers (NSN) appearing in thelistings, followed by a list, in alphameric se-quence, of all part numbers appearing in thelistings. National stock numbers and part num-bers are cross-referenced to each illustration figure and item number appearance.

C-3. Explanation of Columns.

a. Illustration. This column is divided asfollows:

(1) Figure Number. Indicates the figurenumber of the illustration on which the item isshown.

(2) Item Number. The number used toidentify each item called out in the illustration.

b. Source, Maintenance and RecoverabilityCodes (SMR).

(1) Source Code. Source codes indicatethe manner of acquiring support items for main-tenance, repair or overhaul of end items. Sourcecodes are entered in the first and second posi-tions of the Uniform SMR Code format asfollows:

Code Definition

PB ___ Item procured and stocked for in-surance purpose because essen-tiality dictates that a minimumquantity be available in the supplysystems.

XD ___ A support item that is not stocked.When required, item will be pro-cured throught normal supplychannels.

N O T E

Cannibalization or salvage may beused as a source of supply for anyitems source coded above except thoseaircraft support items as restricted byAR 700-42.

(2) Maintenance Code. Maintenancecodes are assigned to indicate the levels of main-tenance authorized to USE and REPAIR sup-port items. The maintenance codes are enteredin the third and fourth positions of the UniformSMR Code format as follows:

(a) The maintenance code enteredin the third position will indicate the lowestmaintenance level authorized to remove, replaceand use the support item. The maintenance codeentered in the third position will indicate one ofthe following levels of maintenance:

(b) The maintenance code enteredin the fourth position indicates whether the itemis to be repaired and identifies the lowest main-tenance level with the capability to performcomplete repair (i.e., all authorized maintenancefunctions). This position will contain the follow-ing maintenance codes:

(3) Recoverability Code. Recoverabilitycodes are assigned to support items to indicatethe disposition action on unserviceable items.The recoverability code is entered in the fifthposition of the Uniform SMR Code format asfollows:

z - - - Nonreparable item. When un-serviceable, condemn and disposeat the level indicated in position 3.

c. National Stock Number. Indicates theNational stock number assigned to the item andwhich will be used for requisitioning purposes.

d. Part Number. Indicates the primarynumber used by the manufacturer (individual,company, firm corporation, or Government ac-tivity), which controls the design and character-istics of the item by means of its engineeringdrawings, specifications standards and in-spection requirements, to identify an item orrange of items.

NOTE

When a stock numbered item is requi-sitioned, the item received may have adifferent part number than the partbeing replaced.

e. Federal Supply Code for Manufacturer(FSCM). The FSCM is a 5-digit numeric codelisted in SB 708-42 which is used to identify themanufacturer, distributor, or Government agen-cy, etc.

f. Description. Indicates the Federal itemname and, if required, a minimum description toidentify the item.

g. Unit of Measure (U/M). Indicates thestandard of the basic quantity of the listed itemas used in performing the actual maintenancefunction. This measure is expressed by a two-character alphabetical abbreviation (e.g., ea, in.,pr, etc.). When the unit of measure differs fromthe unit of issue, the lowest unit of issue thatwill satisfy the required units of measure will berequisitioned.

h. Quantity Incorporated in Unit. Indicatesthe quantity of the item used in the breakoutshown on the illustration figure, which is pre-pared for a functional group, subfunctionalgroup, or an assembly. A “V” appearing in thiscolumn in lieu of a quantity indicates that nospecific quantity is applicable (e.g., shims, spat.era, etc.),C-4. Special Information. Not applicable.C-5. How to Locate Repair Parts.

a. When National Stock Number or PartNumber is Unknown:

(1) First. Find the illustration coveringthe assembly to which the item belongs.

(2) Second. Identify the item on the il-lustration and note the illustration figure anditem number of the item.

(3) Third. Using the Repair Parts List-ing, find the figure and item number noted onthe illustration.

b. When National Stock Number or PartNumber is known.

(1) First. Using the Index of NationalStock Numbers and Part Numbers, find the per-tinent National stock number or part number.This index is in ascending NIIN sequence fol-lowed by a list of part numbers in alphamericsequence, cross-referenced to the illustration fig-ure number and item number.

(2) Second. After finding the figure anditem number, locate the figure and item numberin the repair parts list.
