INTRODUCTION

Any reforms must be based on the idea that a

prisoner is not punished but reformed and made intoa good citizen. If this objective is once accepted, it

would result in a complete overhauling of the prison

system - Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru

Tihar Jail:

Biggest jail of Asia with more than 12000 inmates

Setup in 1958 on the land of Tihar village

Initiative started for welfare of prisoners

Reformation of prisoner's life

Covered a lot many programs like:

Yoga and meditation

Education from affiliated university and schools

Planning to enter into the lucrative modern

retail market

Expected to be a Rs 300-crore business, with

net profit of Rs 30 crore in next year
