What is a capital city?

A capital city (or capital town or just capital) is a city or town, specified by law by the government of a country, or part of a country. It usually serves as the location of the government's central meeting place and offices.

Ask someone in your house if they know what the capital of England is?

Or if you're doing the work independtly, do you know what it is?

Lesson 2, step 4: Creating the game 'snap' to help with my learning.

We are going to need to make some playing cards first.

You will need:

• Four pieces of A4 Paper• Pencil• Scissors (ask an adult)

How to create blank cards:

1. Fold your piece of paper in half.

2. Then fold it in half again.

3. Then fold it in half once more.

Open the piece of paper and it should be split into eights (or eight rectangle shaped pieces).

Follow the folds with a pair of scissors. You should have 8 pieces of plain paper cut out.

Repeat this another 3 times, ending up with 32 blank playing cards.

Lesson 2, step 6 : playing the game

Starting off with the Countries and the capitals.(put the continents to the side).

Playing snap-1. Share the cards out equally.

2. Place your cards face down (so you and anyone can't see the cards) in front of you.

3. Start off by choosing who will start, the person who starts places the top card of their deck in the middle (make sure the cards are face up so you can see the word).

4. Then the person to your right will go next and place a card down.

5. If a matching country and capital is in the middle, the aim is to put your hand on top of them and shout SNAP!

6. If you got it correct, you will get the cards and place them at the bottom of your deck of cards.

7. If you got it wrong, share the cards in the middle around to the other players (not to the person who got it wrong).

-The person who runs out of cards loses.-Time the game for 3 minutes, if no one loses, the person with the most cards wins- if all the cards are placed in the middle, start again.

Lesson 2, step 7, task 4: playing snap, with all the cards.

Use all the cards this time.

Playing snap-1. Steps will be the exact same as before, only

difference is that there are now different ways to win!

2. You could and still can SNAP with a country and its capital.

3. Now you can SNAP with country, continent and capital.

4. You can SNAP the cards if the capital or the country is in the continent.

5. If the card Europe is down and the card London is placed on top, you can shout SNAP and win those cards.

6. If the Country Brazil is in the middle and the continent South America is placed on top, you can shout SNAP and win those cards.

7. Russia can be a good card, as it can me snapped with Moscow, Europe and Asia!

Have fun playing! :)
