Basketball shooting drills

1. Basketball Shooting Drill #5: SPOT SHOOTING

You should have teams of 4,5, or 6 players each. Divide them at the baskets. Line up at the low post, facing the basket. There are 4 shooting spots, low post right, elbow right, elbow left, low post left. Each player has to make 10 shots + 10 lay ups at each spot. Loser gets push-ups, winner encourages the loser.

2. Basketball Shooting Drill #1: SHOOTING 101

One player starts with the ball under the basket. The other player spots up from any spot on the floor. The ball is passed to the shooter who catches the ball low with his knees bent and shoots a jump shot. He gets his own rebound while the passer now spots up to shoot. After a pass is made get a hand in the shooter's face and go game speed.

3. Basketball Shooting Drill #15: JUMP SHOTS UNDER PRESSURE Start with two players; one with a basketball under the basket, and one in his shooting range. Player 1 (with the ball) makes a pass to player 2, and charges at the player to defend against the shot. Player 2 must catch the ball in proper shooting position, square to the basket, focus on the rim, and shoot the jump shot. Player 1 may not try to block the shot; instead, he may distract the shooter by yelling or waving his hands. After the shot is released, Player 1 must block out Player 2 until the ball hits the floor. Players rotate from offense to defense on each shot. Allow each player to take 5 shots from spots on the floor that they will shoot from in a game. This is more than just a basketball shooting drill, it will help defensively as well.

BASKETBALL SHOOTING DRILLS PICTURES

- Lie on the ground and just flip the ball up in the air. This drill improves your shooting style and helps to keep your arm straight.

OFFENSE An offense is the method basketball players use to score baskets and get open shots against your opponent. Many coaches consider their offense to be in a loop or a play that can be run over and over again. Its common to have more then one offensive plays, usually 2: primary and secondary offense.

- Four out one in The 1 man cuts under the basket and goes out again to distract the defenders while the 3 man takes the 1 man’s play and the passes the ball to the 2 man who should be completely open.

Page 4: Title page – basketball

- C option 2 man takes his man one-on-one trying to get all the way to the basket. If he can't beat his man then the triangle is reset, either on the same side or on the opposite side. (Another option may be, instead of calling out "C" every time for this play would be to start the clear out play by calling out any color.)

- Triangle option If 2 man does not get the pass he must then move out to a position out to the right of the lower block. c) Pivot back around so your back is to the basket, then make the back-door pass to 1 for a layup who has v-cut to the baseline side. (2 must stay out to the right of the block area to keep his defender away from the basket).

DEFENSE Offense wins games but defense wins championships. When your offense is struggling, good defense can keep you in the game until your shots start falling. In a game simply scoring more baskets won't do it if you allow the other team to score also. You must keep the opponent from scoring by playing good defense and rebounding, to allow your offense a chance to get back into the game.

ZONE DEFENSE -

- 1-2-1-1 ZONE PRESS Principle - force the offense to speed up their game. - Force a dribbler to the sideline every time. - Double-team a dribbler at sideline. - Force the offense to make bad passes. - Make it hard for the opponent team to run their set-play. - Do not try to steal the ball by reaching in. - anticipate offense long or bad passes for interceptions. MAN TO MAN DEFENSE 50 MAN TO MAN PRINCIPLES

- "50" starts with ball pressure and communication. All five defenders must be talking. Hands are active looking for deflections and we must keep the ball out of the center of the floor. We want to "fan out" to a side and then keep the ball at that side. Once the "strong or ball" side has been established we will deny any ball reversals.

VOLLEYBALL

SERVING – Over hand:

1. Step 1: Positioning Set yourself up with your feet, hips and shoulders facing the direction you want to serve. The

less movement you have while performing this serve- the better. For a right-handed person,

the left foot is slightly forward. Both knees are slightly flexed with your body weight equially

distributed.

2. Step 2: Hold the Ball Hold the ball in your non-serving hand at chest level, palm up. It is important to keep your

elbow loose with a slight bend.

3. Step 3: Position Serving Arm Position your serving arm so your elbow and hand are just above your ear. Keep your hand

open and your wrist locked.

4. Step 4: Toss the Ball The toss is the most important part of this serve. Toss the ball 12 to 18 inches above your

head, in front of your serving shoulder. This keeps your serving motion simple so you can

reach high and hit the ball with a powerful swing.

5. Step 5: Weight Transfer and Contact Contact the ball with the heel of your hand, keeping your hand open and flat. Your wrist

should be locked and your arm fully extended. Step forward.

6. Step 6: Get into Position After serving get back into a defensive position right away- ready for the return.

Under hand: 1.If you are right-handed, put your right or left leg forward (whichever feels more comfortable) and slightly bend your knee. 2. Place the palm of your left hand under the volleyball and hold it out in front of you. 3. Make sure your right hand is open and not in a fist. 4. Let your right open hand drop (to where it would normally be) and then bring it back beyond your hips a little bit. 5. Swing your hand forward, underhanded. The trick is to hit the ball with the heel of your hand and not your palm. Step into it with your right or left foot (whichever feels comfortable), but don't let your foot go over the line or the other team gets a point and the ball. 6. Once you make contact with the ball, continue your swing (follow through) and bring your right hand over your left shoulder.

HOW TO DIG VOLLEYBALL

1

Start in a balanced, athletic position.

Focus on the hitter, readying yourself to dig.

Shift into position to dig, with your arms in front of you and relaxed.

Hold your hands in a neutral position so you can move them up or down.

Bring your arms together as the ball comes down and give with it to take some velocity off it, keeping

it on your side of the court.

Contact the ball on the inside of your forearms (not on your wrists) for the most control.

Ready yourself to hammer the set.

SETTING A VOLLEYBALL:

1. Step 1: Position Your Arms Extend your arms above your head tilting them forward slightly. Bend your elbows so your

hands are about 6 inches above your head.

2. Step 2: Position Your Hands Spread your fingers apart and round your hands. Use your thumb and pointer finger to form a

diamond shape with both hands. Your thumbs should be about an inch apart ... pointing

toward your eyes. Keep your fingers strong and nimble. It's the pads of your fingers that will

make contact with the ball, not the palms of your hands.

3. Step 3: Position Your Legs and Feet Spread your feet shoulder width apart. Balance is the key to a good set so you may want to

place your dominant foot in front. Bend your knees so that when the ball comes your way you

can react quickly . The force you set the ball with comes starts in your feet.

4. Step 4: Make Contact When you are ready to set, center yourself under the ball and make contact with the ball while

it's still above your forehead. Bend and extend your legs, pushing upwards through the ball to

the target. Straighten your arms and legs as you go keeping the ball in your hands briefly. You

do not want to get called for a "carry".

5. Step 5: Follow Through After setting the ball your arms and legs should be fully extended and follow through with

your entire body. Your dominant foot will naturally come forward as the ball is released.
