SUMMARY OF mSTORYIDISCUSSION & FUNDING:
City Council, at its meeting held Monday, March 19th, 2007 adopted a resolution with respect to the establishment
of a City Council Committee to prepare a plan for the formation of a General Museum in the City ofBrandon.
Expectations of the Committee include, but are not limited to:
• Evaluation ofpotential sites;• Estimate of capital costs;• Identification of funding sources;• Detailed plan for the ongoing operation of the museum; and• Assessment of the museum including a community archives
The committee will consist of three (3) members of City Council and a minimum of three (3) citizens-at-largeappointed by City Council.
Three (3) members ofCity Council expressed their interest to be part of this committee.
Notices were published in the Brandon Sun on March 29th and April io", 2007 that Citizen Members were beingsought and interested persons were encouraged to apply to the Clerk's Office, whereby fourteen (14) applicationswere received.
A letter was also received from the President of Brandon Museum, Inc. (Daly House Museum) requesting thecommittee structure be amended to include a seat for a representative from Brandon Museum, Inc. A review ofthe applications received indicated that several were from current and past members of local and provincialmuseum boards and heritage committees and therefore, a dedicated seat for any particular organization may notbe necessary.

Your Worship Mayor Burgess; Brandon City Councillors:
While we were immensely pleased with council's unanimous decision to strike acommittee to investigate the feasibility ofcreating a general museum for Brandon, wewould ask that the structure ofthe committee be amended to include a seat for arepresentative from Brandon Museums. Inc., the organization that operates Daly HouseMuseum.
As a non-profit heritage organization we have been in existence for more than thirtyyears, and for much ofthat time have been the only group involved in the collection andpreservation ofmaterials important to the history ofBrandon. We believe we can bringvaluable expertise and insight to the committee in its work.
Further, as many ofthe more important surviving artefacts and documents fromBrandon's past are part ofthe collection owned by Brandon Museums. Inc., a processinvolving our organization from the start would engender a closer working relationshipshould we later be asked to contribute to a general museum.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to hearing from youregarding this addition.
