Dear Partners,
Warm Greetings from TISS – SVE!!!
As we welcome the New Year, would like to take the opportunity to thank each of
you for your continued support and efforts in spearheading the vocational training
initiatives. The last six months has been rewarding with substantial developments
in streamlining and strengthening our SVE framework.
Progress so far:

From a count of 12 in July 2014, our Verticals have grown to 19 in October 2014.
And we have tapped into diverse industries ranging from Automotive and
Industrial Safety to HR & Sales, Media & Entertainment and Child Care.
Course Content Development-
We had the Course curriculum outline approved for
39 courses in our July 2014 AC meet out of which
detailed course content received for 17 programs.
.
[Volume 1, Issue 1]
Our COE vetting process is ongoing and validation for
12 courses already completed.
Curriculum outline for additional programs received
would be presented during the upcoming AC meet.
HUB Coverage
We currently have 8 Verticals who have signed up 18
HUBs. Mafoi our Automotive Vertical leads with 4 HUBs
followed by Earnest HR with 3 HUBs. Demographically,
Chennai has the highest concentration of HUBs.
SKP Progress

SVE Initiatives
One of the significant developments has been the introduction of Vocational Aptitude System or VAS. This tool enables gauge the student’s inherent
aptitude thereby channeling prospective students towards trades they are most
suited for.
Importantly it would help tackle the issue of increasing drop-out rates observed in some
trades due to a mismatch between the candidate’s innate ability and the trade that he
or she is trained in.
The process of test development was conducted for 501 candidates covering 4 trades
namely,
Printing
Dialysis Technician
CNC Machine Operations
Welding
7 ability tests developed and carried out across these trades namely, Hand-Eye
Coordination, Colour Distortions Identification, Colour Matching, Concentration, Control
Precision, Abstract Reasoning, and Attention. Pilot testing and analysis of these 7 tests
has been completed and relevant changes incorporated into the test design.
With a view to formulate similar tests for our other Verticals, we are in the process of
identifying representative abilities for trades such as Travel and Tourism, Sales and
Retail Management.
We also have Train the Trainer programs conducted for our B.Voc General
Education Component. These sessions ensure that our teaching quality standards
are not compromised and Knowledge transfer methods are identical across the
board.

Counselling Service is another
notable achievement initiated for SVE
students. The service was kick-started
for Apex Dialysis Technology course
and plans underway to implement for
other verticals.
