Tiny Tales TRINITY CHURCH DAY SCHOOL FEBRUARY, 2016
FROM THE DIRECTOR ’ S DESK :
Dear Trinity Parents, Happy February! I hope that cupid finds you warm and full of joy. In this month of love I encourage you to take some time out to spread a little kindness to one another. In the words of Aesop, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” Let’s make February our official month of kindness. Send a note into the office about what your child’s act of kindness is and we will be happy to boast.
Our first snowfall of the year was the infamous Jonas- measuring 30 inches (taller than some of our Angels). I was so happy to get the pictures of your little ones out in the snow. I have them proudly displayed in the lobby. The cold temperatures and snow are expected to stick around this month, so please continue to send your child to school with hats and mittens. We understand the importance of play, and will try to get out even when it is cold. The Day School had a fantastic January Open House, and Registration went extremely well. We still have some space available for next year, so if you have any friends or neighbors looking for a preschool, please send them our way. If you have not registered yet and intend to do so, please stop by the office. As a reminder, your last tuition payment was due February 1. Your child’s placement for next year cannot be finalized until we receive that payment. Thank you for your cooperation. As a reminder, Trinity will be closed Monday, February 15th for Presidents Day. Also, please visit our School News Board for an exciting after school activity. Melissa Daniel (from Boppin Babies) will offer a Creative Movement and Dance Exploration class on February 17th and 18th for anyone interested. Cost is $10.00. Permission slips are on the board and children must be signed up in advance. Believe it or not, it is time to start thinking about how the summer months will be spent. Planning for Trinity’s Summer Nature Program is already in the works. We will offer four weeks of our summer program beginning June 6 through July 1. Each week will be dedicated to a different animal Continued…..

adventure including ocean animals, insects, animals in the rainforest, dinosaurs and safari. Our Science Camp was such a success last year that we are offering it again. Please check out our school’s website, www.trinitychurchdayschool.com, later this month to find a flyer, an application and even a savings coupon. The program is open to the community, but our students will be given the first opportunity to register.
The Parents’ Club Spring Bull and Oyster Roast is scheduled for Friday, May 6th at Columbus Gardens. It will be a wonderful social event filled with good food, drink and fabu-lous auction items. Mark the date on your calendar and plan to attend. It should be a fun night out and a great way to support your child’s school.
All of the children will be participating in Trinity Day School’s “Read To Me” reading
incentive program during the months of March and April. The children will receive a bookmark from their teacher at the start of the program and a gift book at the conclusion. Look for a packet of information about the reading program to come home at the end of this month.
With winter weather upon us and the cold and flu season in full swing, please refer to our school handbook for guidelines regarding school policy and illnesses. Additionally, please note that if your child is diagnosed with a contagious illness such as strep throat or pinkeye, they may not return to school until they have been on an antibiotic and fever free for 24 hours.
Mark your calendar for our fourth annual Grandparent’s Day(s) on March 9th and 10th. More details will come out later this month.
Our Easter Chapel is scheduled for Wednesday, March 23rd. Our Easter break coincides with Baltimore County Public School System. School will reopen on April 4. As always if you have any questions or concerns, please stop by the office. Our door is always open. All The Best, Lizzie

FROM OUR RECTOR: Dear Friends, When I was in first and second grade, we made mailboxes for valentines. I looked forward to opening my box on Valentine's Day and seeing lots of cards – at least I hoped there would be lots of cards. Not everyone got a lot, of course; the boy whose ears stuck out from his head, who was a bit slower than every-one else, wasn’t likely to get very many. On the other hand, the most popular girls (I was definitely not in that group) would probably gloat and brag about how many they received. My mother may have known about this inequity as she insisted that I give valentine cards to everyone in the class, no exceptions. Moreover, she also had me make my own – no cutesy store-bought ones allowed. So I cut construction paper hearts and glued lace doilies to the paper, wrote a greeting and signed my name on a card for every one of my classmates, including the most and the least popular kids. I didn’t realize it at the time, of course, but Mama was teaching me something about God – that God loves everyone, no exceptions. As children of God, we were to do the same thing – love everyone, no exceptions. Whether you do it as my mother did, or find some other way, use Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to teach your children about God’s inclusive love. Yours in that love, Dr. Fran+
Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday. It takes its name from the English word shrive, which means to
absolve from sin. Why one would need to be absolved from sin in order to begin Lent, the most penitential of
seasons, I really can’t say. But the “Shrove” part isn’t why I like this day anyway. I love Shrove Tuesday because
of the traditional Pancake Supper. In order to rid the house of rich foods like sugar, eggs, milk, etc., pancakes are
consumed the day before the Lenten fast begins on Ash Wednesday. Trinity Church holds a pancake supper every
Shrove Tuesday, and I hope to see you there.

Music Notes
Even before the blizzard, we were getting into the snowy spirit with snowmen and icicle songs! All the classes learned a poem with hand move- ments, “The Chubby Little Snowman”; a song, “Snowmen Riding on a Sled”; and a finger play with body movements, “Five Happy Snowmen on a Cold Winter’s Day”. In honor of the Martin Luther King holiday, the 4’s learned a poem about Martin Luther King and a song, “Freedom, Freedom, Let it Ring”. The 3’s and 4’s classes have started rehearsing songs and dances for our spring musical, “A Celebration of Mother Goose.” Stay tuned for more details! In February, we will be learning songs about Ground Hog’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and Presi-dent’s Day. We will also begin preparing songs for Easter Chapel. Just a reminder for Movement Classes on Friday: Please make sure your child is wearing ap-propriate clothing and footwear… no boots, jewelry, or long dresses. If you have any questions or suggestions, please let me know. Musically, Ms. Sue

the kitchen and storage building into two
new classrooms, and building a new kitchen/
