The Problem

Email is a great communication tool, but with the advent of social networking, there are better ways to collaborate.

Disconnected emails and multi-version related documents wastes time and increases the likelihood of errors.

Value chain users have a lack of transparency and a limited ability to take immediate action working together on a project, process, or event.

Process workflow is reliant on spreadsheets for the free flow information value chain.

IBM’s “ Business of Social Business” defines social business as embedding social tools, media, and practices into the ongoing activities of the organization. Social business enables individuals to connect and share information and insights more effectively with others, both inside and outside the organization. Social business tools facilitate engagement in extensive discussions with employees, customers, business partners and other stakeholders and allow sharing of resources, skills and knowledge to drive business outcomes.

According to an IDC study “The Intelligent Workspace”, the average worker spends 13 hours per week reading and answering emails, 8.8 hours searching for information, and 6.4 hours communicating & collaborating with team members.

McKinsey’s report, ” The Social Economy: Unlocking value and productivity through social technologies“ which creates value by improving productivity across the value chain, could potentially contribute $900 billion to $1.3 trillion in annual value across consumer packaged goods, retail financial services, advanced manufacturing, and professional services. A majority of the untapped value lies in “improved communications and collaboration within and across enterprises.” In other words, social media is poised to become an office productivity tool, much the same way that email did in the late 1990’s.
