Period of time: 1950s – 1960s The Cold War
With the end of the World War II, geopolitical changes triggered the
initiation of modern-day language learning. Some of the events that
fostered this charge will be described in the following timeline:

The URSS launched Spuntnik, the first artificial satellite which determined the initiation of the space race between USA and USSR.

The USA implemented the National Defense (Foreign Languages) Program to surpass their scientist inability to understand the technological advances of other countries. Behaviorism was the dominant driving force in methodologies.
This period is characterized by the emergence of numerous "fringe" methodologies.
