goals? Deadlines?
3. Manage Time Identify current use of time Match with priority list and goals Adjust accordingly
Make a list of THREE things that are most important for you to do during a typical day (apart from eating, sleeping, or hygiene)
Make a list of THREE things that are most important for you to have achieved in 5 years time Examples: graduate from college, get
married, travel to Antarctica, meet up with a long-lost friend, earn driver’s license, write a book, become a teacher, join a missionary
How may your current priorities help or hinder your way in reaching future priorities? Compare lists.
Translate future priorities into long-term goals E.g.: “I will graduate college in 4 years “I will become an airline pilot in 8
years” “I will decide on a career in 6
months”
Short-term goals: Important steps to achieve a long-term goal LTG: “I will graduate college in 4 years” STGs: “I will decide on a major” “I will find out what courses I need to
take” “I will develop my course schedule
plan” “I will get at least “C’s” in my
courses”
Set deadlines or estimated completion times for short-term goals:
“I will decide on a major in a month” “Then, I will find out what courses I need to take in a week”“Then, I will develop my course schedule plan in a week”

Get a calendar or planner
Create your monthly and weekly schedules
Create your daily schedule
First, mark all fixed commitments
Mark deadlines for short-term goals
Make a daily list of activities (“to do list”)
Ensure that list reflects priorities

Do the high importance activity, or most difficult activity, first
Make productive use of free time Set aside extra time for the

Learn to say “no” to unnecessary commitments, unless you truly have time
Reward self for goals achieved, or planned schedules followed
Divide larger tasks into smaller ones
Periodically revise task list, schedule, or priorities if things are not working
Avoid the time bandits
Seek help from others
Oversleeping TV, videogames, Netsurfing, leisure
reading Phone, text, or internet chatting Cleaning, organizing “stuff” “hanging out”
Keep the above at a minimum unless they are part of your priorities
