Second Grade News – Mrs. Marla Weber Students in second grade have been learning about early exploration of the United States. They first learned about various native American tribes. Based on the tribe they were assigned, students did research and then created a diorama to represent the life of that tribe; including the type of shelter and how they traveled. Students also learned about famous explorers whose discoveries made an impact on our country. Each student researched one of the explorers and presented his or her findings to classmates on an iPad presentation. 4th Grade News – Mrs. Shelli Mueller We had a lot of fun celebrating Nebraska’s 150th birthday. The students did an amazing job presenting at the UCC church about their Famous Nebraskan. Here is the link to the video I took that day. https://plus.google.com/104663011023288951183/posts/ib4kctPUA4Q Then we watched a presentation from the Durham Museum on the history of Nebraska from early pioneers to statehood the following week with the 3rd grade.

The high school choir performed “Beautiful Nebraska” at the Women’s Club celebration for Nebraska’s 150th Birthday. Members are Ashley Benorden, Caitlin Murphy, Katie Skinner, Haylee Sheffield and Anna Bettu.

The senior high choir performed at the Senior Center on Tuesday, March 21. This was the fourth time they have entertained during lunch this year. They sang a variety of pieces including “Somewhere out There” and some of their possible contest music.

Five students performed at the Women’s Club meeting on Tuesday, March 21. Cammie Harrison played a flute solo. Peytan Brandt performed a snare drum solo. Katie Skinner sang a vocal solo. Ella Wilkins and Caitlin Murphy each performed a piano solo. Peytan and Katie each competed in the District Women’s Club Contest on Wednesday, March 15, in Seward.

The Meridian Junior High Honor Choir & Honor Band will be held at Meridian on Friday, April 7. The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. There is a small admission fee for the concert. Students participating in the choir are Katelyn Babula, Jaiden Papik, Kiah Songster, Braden Capek, Blake Meyer and Clint Oldehoeft. Students participating in the band are Cammie Harrison, Georgia Meyer and Daisy Kanode.

The 7-12 Spring/Pre-Contest Concert will be held on Monday, April 10, at 7:00 p.m. in the Exeter site gymnasium. (The school calendar is incorrect and says 10 a.m.) The junior high and senior high choirs will sing and the jazz band and band will play. Small groups will also perform during the concert. Following the main concert in the gym, soloists will perform in the music room and gym. This will give all of the District Music Contest participants a chance to perform their pieces.

District Music Contest will be held in Sutton on Thursday, April 20, and Friday, April 21. All solos and small groups will perform on Thursday. The band will perform on Friday. Exeter-Milligan has over 20 entries in the contest. I will need parents to help out each day due to the number of entries and students. Please let me know if you are willing to help out. We will leave in the early afternoon on Thursday and return in the evening. We will not know our time for Friday until much closer to the event. Also, please come support the students at DMC! They work very hard to prepare their solos, small group pieces, and the band music. This is the culmination of our year’s work!

“Creativity is intelligence having fun.” Albert Einstein Face Painting is a must at Family Art Night! This is our 3rd Annual FAN and the kids are happy to stand in line to get their favorite design painted on their face! Thanks to Katie Moody, Jacy Schlueter, Daisy Kanode and Katie Mounce for doing an amazing job with this station.

The kids were able to make some beautiful paper quillings, thanks to the efforts of many high school art students who curled strips of paper to make this art form possible for the kids. Paper quilling is a technique used in France and Italy and it gets it’s name from the quills they would use to curl the paper strips.

Quinton Behrens, Johnny Babula and Claire Mounce spent time encouraging kids to do their best work on their paper quilling creations.

Their was a large crowd at this year’s FAN! Many parents were able to sign up for our Artsonia online gallery so relatives from far and near can see the art that is made here at E-M. We also had 3-D printers running and souvenirs for the kids.

Page 8: Timber’Tracks’ Exeter/Milligan’Public’ Schools’ April,’2017’ · Milligan Class of 2017. If you would like more information or if you would like to donate, please contact

The students’ artwork was on display all throughout the gym. The ribbon winners were also displayed from the GFWC District IV art contest.

Maddie Luzum and Olivea Swanson spent a lot of time helping the kids build totem poles out of cut out designs and paper towel tubes. Kiley Oldehoeft is pictured here working hard on her totem pole. Pictured below are a group of kids working at a popular station where they were able to make dot paintings like the Aboriginal paintings of Aurstralia. They used q-tips to dot colors onto tagboard.

Finally, with many attempts at building a pyramid with styrofoam cups this group of kids were successful making the largest one of the night. Archer pictured on the left did not help build the pyramid but thought he should jump in the picture and take some credit for it anyway! Brogan Staskal, Deacon Erdkamp, Selah Petersen and Alexis Bendig worked together to make this happen.

Japanese Writing with watercolor was a hit as kids

practiced writing words like “kindness, peace and home” in Japanese. African masks was yet another station that the kids were able to design and wear a mask made from paper plates. Pictured below is a group of kids hard at work making these. When I asked Carver if he made himself a mask, he said “no, I could not find that one!” So much to do at FAN, you can spend more time at your favorite activity and possibly do not even make it all the way around the gym. It is so much fun to see the kids creating, working together and enjoying themselves!

Thanks so much to everyone that helped make this

event happen! There are more people I could mention I am sure, but I do want to thank Mrs. Krejci for helping with the set up, Mrs. Stutzman, Mrs. Vossler and Mrs. Kroll for running stations at the event. Travis and Sophia Gilliam working stations and setting up. Haylee Sheffield, Katie and Claire Mounce, Maddie Luzum, Olivea Swanson and Daisy

and Jozie Kanode for volunteering their time, as well as my high school art students for doing the preparation, working stations and cleaning up, and finally all the parents that

brought their children to show off their creativity and talents at this years Family Art Night!

Congratulations to Scout Grummons as her artwork was chosen in the 1st grade division for the “Beautiful Nebraska” art contest! 7 E-M artworks will also be judged at the GFWC State Contest in April. Wyatt Motis has two pieces going to state. Tara Mueller, Travis Gilliam and Peyton Brandt, as well as 2nd grade, RJ Clevenger and 5th grade, Savana Krupicka.
