Tijuana en Acción – Letter Home September 2016 Hello Berkeley, September was an incredibly exciting month for Tijuana en Accion. The official start date of the program was September 19 th 2016. We began by presenting ourselves to our two middle school classroom. Meanwhile, the team nutritionist took the initial measurements of our sixty-nine students. Additionally, our students answered a life habits and nutrition survey and a 24hr-eating summary. From the surveys, we realized that the majority of our students do not have breakfast before school and had little knowledge about nutrition. We created a thirteen-week curriculum for Tijuana en Acción. We began our program by discussing the topic of hygiene of food on week 2 (September 26-28). We went over an a very simple PowerPoint where we demonstrated the correct way to clean fruit and vegetables, how to cook and store meats, and personal hygiene tips.
