Greetings, Tiger Families, The past week has been filled with many exciting events within our community. We celebrated Red Ribbon Week by participating in fun dress up days that were physi- cal signs of our commitment to say no to drugs and to keep our community safe and strong. Thank you very much to Mrs. Valdez and the Red Ribbon Week committee for planning these days for our school community. We ended the school week with a special commissioning of our middle school altar servers. Fr. Agustin offered two training sessions for these students and then com- missioned them after our school Mass, when he offered a special blessing over them and presented them with special crosses. Almost all of our middle school students have served in a school Mass this year as a lector, gift bearer, altar server, or choir member. Our parents and family members are always welcome to join us on Friday mornings and if you havent had a chance to do so yet, you might mark your calen- dar for November 22 when our school Mass will be presided by Bishop Michael Boulette. It was great to see so many of you this weekend at our Halloween Carnival. Our PTC, parent volunteers, and faculty and staff all outdid themselves this year. The costumes were great, the food was delicious, and it was great to see so many mem- bers of our school, parish, and neighborhood come together for a night of fun and fellowship. We cannot thank Elisa Garcia, Becky Pawelek, and all of our volunteers enough for the hours and hours of work they put in to make the night such a success. The weekend concluded with the Run with a Mission 5K at Morgans Wonderland. We officially surpassed our goal of 100 registrants with a total of 129 this year! Thank you to Coach Morris for promoting the event and generating lots of excite- ment and to Mrs. Montoya and our cheerleaders for representing us so well. Be sure to support Tiger Cheer on Saturday, November 2 as they compete in Cheer4Christ at Central Catholic at 8:50am! While the past week and weekend kept us all very busy, the energy, enthusiasm and participation we saw throughout were vivid reminders of how blessed we all are to be part of this wonderful community. Sincerely, Gabriel Duarte

Megan (Flores) Martinez

SPS class of 2001

Megan Martinez owns a growing business that

recently was featured on Good Morning SA.

Megan was delighted to be interviewed and

said, “Once a St. Peter’s Tiger, always a Tiger.”

L & M Blooms is a small floral business she

created for flower and craft designs needed

for any occasion. She unofficially started in

2012 when she was prompted to do flowers for her wedding. With

the help of her mom (former SPS staff), they created the bridal party

florals and a few extras for the reception. It was exciting, nerve rack-

ing, and fun at the same time. It ignited a passion she never knew she

had for floral design! A friend approached her asking if she could

make her wedding cake and Megan said, ‘No but I can do you flow-

ers!’ That’s when she really began to create designs for various cli-

ents. “Most of the crafts were added as clients requested. Initially my

name was passed by word of mouth and we

became an official business in November

2017.”

Ms. Leopold and Mrs. Duren both had a big

impact on her at SPS. “I can remember taking

advanced math in 8th grade and Ms. Leopold

would continuously stress how important it

was that we learned and understood math on

different levels.

I find myself to this day reminding my own

daughters how important math is and how it is

one of the subjects they’ll always use no matter

what career path they chose. Mrs. Duren taught

so many life lessons on how to present yourself

and how to take pride in what you do - which is

something I remind myself of daily, along with

the importance of handwriting! Thank you cards

are something I try to include with every order

and yes, they’re hand written! I’ve been lucky

enough to have reconnected with Ms. Duren at my daughters school

and she hasn’t changed one bit!”

“I’ve been able to reconnect with a few friends from St. Peter’s

thanks to social media. It’s such a great feeling when someone I grew

up with reaches out to inquire about designing something for them.

Likewise, my logo was designed by former classmate, Yvonne Ramos.

For me personally, it still feels like a small supportive family when

those connections come through. St. Peter’s definitely gave me one of

my life long friends - Anita Bagge - and that is something I will always

be grateful for.”

Having stayed in Catholic education through

my undergraduate degree, a faith based edu-

cation has given me a sense of direction, pur-

pose, and reasoning. Without my personal

faith, none of my business would be possible.

I keep a mentality of ‘With God’s will, he will

guide through it.”

TOLERANCE, INTEGRITY, GENEROSITY, EMPATHY, RESPONSIBILITY

ST. PETER PRAYER St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles, you were given the keys to the king-dom of heaven. As the first pope, guide us to what is always true and

good. Blessed Apostle St. Peter, whose name means “rock,” Jesus chose you to build his Church. Help me build tolerance, integrity, generosity, empathy, and responsibility within my community of

faith. St. Peter, pray for us!
