The Cruisin' Tigers GTO Club is “the” GTO non-regional specialty chapter of Pontiac-Oakland Club International (POCI), the premier national organization for Pontiac, Oakland & GMC enthusiasts. Why Join POCI? The Pontiac-Oakland Club International, the world’s oldest and largest organiza-tion (over 8,800 strong) of Pontiac enthusiasts, is devoted to the restoration and preservation of Pon-tiac, Oakland and GMC vehicles. The POCI promotes the preservation and accurate restoration of these vehicles through its various services, publications and events. Membership in POCI allows access to a vast pool of information, experience and parts resources. Local and specialty chapters are also available to further the POCI membership experience. $35 annually for U.S. membership. . Smoke Signals POCI’s full-color, monthly magazine, Smoke Signals, is devoted to Pontiac, Oak-land and GMC vehicles and their owners. It contains owner profiles, event coverage, technical data and restoration tips. You will find stories about our members and their vehicles, along with perfor-mance articles and news of chapter activities across the USA, Canada and around the world. The Classified section provides the membership with a forum for the exchange of parts, information and

vehicle-related items. Ads from members, whether for sale or wanted, include parts, sales and service literature, and promotional items as well as complete cars. Classified advertising privileges are extended to members only - FREE of charge. Only Pontiac, Oakland and GMC related, non-commercial items are permitted. Web Site: www.poci.org The newly updated web site is a wealth of information for members: registration forms, tech fo-rums, chapter news, event listings, convention information, online classifieds, ID codes, links to an on-line member forum, many vendors and sponsors- the list goes on and on. Members can also access on-line POCI member information including name, phone number and vehicles owned. The website is constantly adding new and useful information. Credit cards ac-cepted include: VISA, Master Card & Discover. Technical Advisors The POCI Technical Advisor program has been a great success and continues to grow as member-ship expands and new needs arise. These advisors are board-appointed members possessing expertise in a particular ar-ea. Questions from correct paint and upholstery, to mechanical rebuilds, to performance issues, can be addressed by PO-CI technical advisors. Library The POCI library is a massive collection of Pontiac, Oakland and GMC literature, unlike any other, anywhere else. It contains valuable technical data (manuals, engineering reports, etc.) as well as marketing and sales information (brochures, posters, photos, material samples, etc.) All this is available to our members. Materials cannot be sent out, so photocopies are available at a modest cost. POCI Convention This is the gala event of the year for POCI, attracting hundreds of members and their cars from all over the world. The convention rotates annually to various locations throughout the US and is jointly sponsored by the POCI and the POCI chapter servicing the area or a POCI Specialty Chapter.

Club History and Mission: The Cruisin’ Tigers GTO Club was founded in April 1989 by six GTO enthusiasts. This club has grown into the GTO non-regional specialty chapter for Pontiac Oakland Club International (POCI). The Cruisin’ Ti-gers is a not for profit club and is dedicated to the promotion and preser-vation of Pontiac’s ultimate muscle car... The GTO. The club acts as a source of information to its members through monthly meetings, a tech advisory staff and club website. The club welcomes anyone with stock, modified or an interest in The Pontiac GTO to join. Ownership of a GTO is not a membership require-ment. Club meetings are held the third Saturday of every month and start at 4:00. Members are encouraged to bring their cars to monthly meetings. Club Events: In addition to monthly meetings; the club sponsors cruises, annual pic-nics, and the club’s annual car show, The Indian Uprising. Members and their families can enjoy organized activities with other GTO enthusiasts. Membership: Membership dues are paid annually and collected April 1st. Dues are $30.00 and are subject to a prorated amount for new members. Tiger News: Members in good standing receive the club’s monthly newsletter Tiger News. In addition to free classified ads, members are encouraged to sub-mit articles, tech columns and club event pictures. Deadlines for all sub-missions to the newsletter are the first of the month. Nothing like a convertible on a warm summer night

Presidents Page—by Randy Ray

The early part of the season is tough for me as my job has some seasonality to it. That and being a serial

procrastinator makes June tough. I need another month of Spring, and another month of Summer after

June and July so I can get a full Summer. Unfortunately, the calendar and Mother Nature both disagree.

That is also driving some of my increasing frustration with the State of Illinois. Of course that’s in addition

to the incompetence and corruption exhibited by our elected officials.

So, if you’re a little frustrated at your car, take a deep breath and say its ok. We all have wanted to

scream and do something stupid at various times, take a break, sit back, and remember that we partici-

pate in one of the most fun hobbies there is, as we get to experience cars, the people, the history, and

the preservation. We see general news articles about Detroit, the American love affair with the car,

Route 66, whatever aspect, and we know that we are curators of that history. Last month we had the

main museum list in the newsletter, that is going to run again with a couple updates, one being that I

missed Tim Dye’s Pontiac Museum. Total oversight as I was going there the day after our meeting. Clas-

sic case of not seeing the forest. He is a curator of Pontiac history—and a really great one. Go there, lis-

ten to him, and its not just the “big” stories, the nuance and attention to detail found in the little stories

can even be greater. I got the tour including the basement oil can collection, what a great piece of Ameri-

cana and petrolania. The stories and history of a lot of industries and trends roll through those oil cans.

Think about it—oil cans, so what industries? Well, Oil for one, from lots of oil producers and marketers

to a few. Then Packaging, shapes of cans, metal, wax paper, and now plastic. Marketing of the oil and

the artwork on the cans. Art Deco style, the 50’s, using racing and promotion, and many with what are

now icons of the past. Who can forget STP with Andy Granatelli either at Indy or with Richard Petty. That

is why I have added Gas Station Roadmaps to my collecting, the artwork can be great, per-war Chevron

maps have some beautiful art. Tourism maps of Florida show all the old tourist traps, and many maps of

the Plains states have Indians or Route 66 as you swing to the Southwest. They also have the oil company

products promoted, always in color, and also representing each era of automobile. The 40’s cars, the

50’s, and then the 60’s, I think its Texaco has a stylized Shelby on a lot of their map covers. So break out

the maps and enjoy—time is precious.

Happy Cruisin’

Randy

Woodward Dream Cruise is August 20, 2016. If you are Dreaming of the Dream Cruise make plans now. To fully get the most out of the Dream Cruise, I suggest you come early to enjoy the crusin and make a vacation of it. The Marriott is "party central" for parking lot parties and hanging out out after the cruise thru the week. There is a restau-rant in the Hotel and several others nearby. The Marriott was the site of the 2004 GTOAA Nationals. The Woodward GTO Tigers has set aside a block of rooms at the Marriott Center Point again this year. Rooms are $125/night. Meeting Minutes by Mark Balinski

Meeting came to order at 4:07 pm. Randy Ray welcomed everyone. Due to a sprinkler malfunction at Mr. Beef’s the restaurant was closed but the restaurant allowed our members to continue with the meeting. They allowed all members free soda from their machines! Randy asked if there were any new members or any members attending for the first time. Jack Roberts (CT# 288) was in attendance for the first time. His car is a 1970 GTO, silver with black top with a 400 engine, 350 HP, automatic with dual gate. Ric Murphy spoke next regarding a Meguiar’s pre-special and close out sale on various products. A sheet re-garding the specials was handed around the room. Bill Nawrot spoke next looking for volunteers for Western Springs Memorial day parade. Bill was looking for members willing to drive their convertibles in the parade. Randy Ray and Paul Weinstein had already com-mitted to attending with their cars. Paul Weinstein then handed out two Cruisin’ Tigers round window decals to all paid members in attendance. Randy made an announcement that Connie Bogoff had a box fill of miscellaneous car parts that Rick had laying around. The parts were from ’65 and ’66 GTO’s. Members in attendance were allowed to pick through the box and take what they needed. Randy mentioned that club newsletters were mailed. Hard copies of the newsletter were made available for $2. Ken Smith then made an announcement that there were 221 paid members. This was down from 262 in the previous month as memberships were expiring. Ken mentioned that there were 2 new members but that he knew that several members had not renewed yet (even though he knew they were going to). Bob Bruzek then handed out membership cards to all current members in the room. For all members not in attendance, their cards will be sent out shortly. John Campbell then reviewed the club finances. The club brought in $2700 from show sponsors. $250 from the uprising registration fees, $2700 from show license plates, $1000 from show indoor parking fees, $130 for chari-ty, $250 in show shirts sold, $1900 in membership dues and $100 from winner circle. The total club income was $9183.05. Club expenses included $290 for printing Tiger News. Pizza, 50/50, seed money added up to $452. Winner circle jacket was $580. With additional miscellaneous expenses, the total expenses were $1442.15. The club is $7740 in the black. Eric spoke about the Danada Square FTEA Picnic event. There were about 20 Pontiacs in attendance. Club members were served free hamburgers, pork chops, hot dogs, soda and chips. Members were treated to a live “Dog and Pony” show! A live goat even made its way into some of the club members pictures with their GTOs. The weather was beautiful and the property was very nice. Thank you to all who attended. Ken provided an update on the 2016 Indian Uprising. FETA will be bringing a pony to the event. Comfort dogs will also be at the event. The event committee will be meeting on June 4th at Pheasant Run. They will meet at 8:00 am for breakfast and the meeting will start at 9:00 and go for about 1 ½ to 2 hours. They will discuss the room set up and walk the grounds. There will be some layout changes this year. The vendors and the swap meet area will be located in different areas this year. .

Meeting Minutes (cont’d.) by Mark Balinski

Paul Weinstein handed out flyers. Paul mentioned the Uprising is in about 2 ½ months. Cruise night flyers and Reg-istration flyers were given to members to hand out at their local cruise nights. There has been a tremendous push this year for gold sponsors. This year is one of the best years for gold sponsors. Woody GMC of Naperville in is our first Car Dealer sponsor in years. All members were reminded to pre-register to avoid waiting in the registration lines the day of the event. 60-70% of the indoor spaces have been sold. It is expected that the indoor spaces will be sold out within the next 30 days. Gary Firch spoke briefly about the national POCI convention. He is looking for volunteers to assist with the event. He promises that you will have a good time and meet new people along the way! It was mentioned that there are already 487 registered attendees for the POCI convention. 250 of which are signed up for the dinner event. 140 have signed up for the John Deere tour. 350 have signed up for the dinner cruise on a river boat and 26 have signed up for the museum tour. It should be a great time. For the club members that will not be attending the national convention, we will be attending the July 16th Lom-bard cruise night. Lombard originally had this night slotted as MOPAR night but because we were the first club to contact them, they have changed it to GTO / Pontiac night. It should be a good time. Please plan to attend if you will be in town! The club is also planning to attend the Morris cruise night on September 10. Mark Balinski will work with the or-ganizers to see if a dedicated parking area can be arranged for our members. There were a total of 36 members in attendance at the meetings. There was a strong showing of Pontiacs in the parking lot. There were 18 cars filling up the west side of the parking lot! The 50/50 split the pot and “have to be here” drawings were then conducted. Ric Murphy won the 50/50 with a pot of $60. Jack Richmond pulled the winning 50/50 slip. The “have to be here” pot was at $111. Donna pulled the slip for “have to be here”. Club member #35, Craig and Debbie Sincora’s slip was pulled but unfortunately they were not in attendance. The meeting adjourned at 4:58. Members then headed out to the parking lot where Ric Murphy (our personal

Meguiars rep) gave a demonstration of Meguiar’s latest products. It was a very informative session.

Uprising Sponsor Service Update from Jax Wax!

Jax Wax will be offering mini-detailing (see below) at the car show this year, please set up an ap-pointment at the number in the ad if you’re interested. FTEA Picnic — photos from Bob Zeiger

A long time charity of ours is the FTEA, Friends of Therapeutic Equine Activities. They had a picnic before the May meeting at Danada Park and invited us out. We had a great time, and while it was our first as the timing worked out well. We’ll look to do this again next year. They cooked, we ate—that’s a pretty good picnic if you ask me!

Top Left—line up of Tiger cars (18 I believe), it was a beautiful day, and timing could not have been better—just preceding our club meeting. Top Right—They have a few more animals than just hors-es. Bottom Left—the President’s duties are extremely varied. Bottom Right—this is their trick horse Daisy (?) and her handler. She can do a lot of fun tricks but is getting old, so she may have to retire. All dressed up for Fun!

Tragedy Response

Irwindale Raceway, CA

While the events in Orlando were horrific, one of our charities, the Lutheran Church Charities Comfort GDgs were on the scene to help. Story from WLS and CNN. A team of comfort dogs from Chicago are in Orlando to help the city deal with the tragedy of Sunday's deadly nightclub shooting. The shooting left 49 people killed and dozens wounded when a gunman opened fire inside a gay night club. Organizers in Chicago are hoping a group of Golden Retrievers will bring a bit of sunshine to the broken hearts in Orlando. The first group headed out of O'Hare around 6 a.m. Monday. The Lutheran charity Comfort Dogs asked to come to Orlando and work through a local Lutheran church that has an outreach program for the LGBT com-munity. The team, which includes 19 people traveling with the 12 comfort dogs, will be working in local hospitals with the injured victims and the first responders. "Dogs are great listeners, nonjudgmental and uh we're just there to help people and listen to people as they talk about what they've gone through, the fears that they have and part of the healing process is just letting people talk," Lutheran Church Charities President Tim Hetzner. A second group left later in the morning. The crew plans to stay in Florida until Monday, their mission to help as many people as they can while they are there.
