Support Catholic Education IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ELIGIBLE CATHOLIC RATEPAYERS
Catholic education has been an integral part of Ontario’s history for more than 160
years. As a vital component of the province’s publicly funded education system,
schools educate nearly 600,000 students each year.
Did You Know? Your school support defaults to English Public each time you move
residences. You must re-declare yourself as English Separate.
It is important to regularly verify your tax-directed support by checking your property
tax bill or speaking to your landlord. You may also call the Municipal Property
Assessment Office at 1-866-296-6722.
By ensuring that you are registered as a separate school supporter, you are helping
to deliver a powerful message to the Ontario government about the level of support
for publicly funded Catholic education in your district.
The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board wishes to thank the
community of separate school supporters for their continued support of Catholic
education in our district.
Wearing Blue
Many individuals come together to raise awareness and support those with a learning

Every Friday during the month of October students and staff are encouraged to wear
blue. .

St. Theresa School OCTOBER 2018
Reading for the Love of It!!
Reading for pleasure has the power to benefit our learners in so many ways. As a parent, encouraging your child to read for enjoyment is one of the most important things you can do to prepare him/her with a foundation for academic excellence.
As a school principal and vice/principal, we would like to encourage each and every student at St. Theresa school to take some time to read for a few minutes every day. The following is a list of suggestions to help you find or embrace a love for reading:
Find a cozy place to read
Visit the local library
Borrow books from your classroom teacher
Use a reading calendar or reading log
Take time to get to know what your favourite genre is
Raz-Kids has a wide variety of texts to enjoy
www.raz-kids.com
The purpose of the reading log is to encourage and celebrate daily reading! Whether your child is reading a book, magazine or on the computer, he/she is choosing to spend time engaged in a wonderful activity. The reading log provides a little recognition for that commitment and effort! "The more that you read, the more things
you will know. The more that you learn the
more places you'll go.” ― Dr. Seuss, I Can
Read With My Eyes Shut!
Virtue of the Month Program For the month of October, we will focus on the virtue of Gratitude.
The virtue of gratitude shapes our entire outlook on life. It is the channel
through which we become aware of the sacred, and the many blessings
of our lives. To learn the grammar of gratitude, practice saying "thank
you" for happy and challenging experiences, for people, animals, things,
art, memories, dreams. Gratitude allows us to appreciate and accept our
lives. Gratitude allows us to accept our life as a gift.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one
another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing
psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. “ (Colossians 3:16)
St. Theresa Open House
We would like to thank everyone for making our Open House a huge success.

REMINDERS
Bus Zones
Our bus loading zone needs to be kept
clear of all vehicles in order to facilitate
the loading and unloading of buses in a
safe manner.
Liturgical Celebration
Our Thanksgiving Liturgical celebration
will be held on October 3rd, 2018 at
1:30 p.m. EVERYONE IS WELCOME
TO JOIN US.
Allergies
A friendly reminder, that there are
children in our school with severe, life
threatening allergies to sea food,
peanuts and nuts and sesame
seeds. We maintain a peanut and nut
aware school community, peanut and
nut products are not permitted.
Medication
We cannot dispense medication to a student
unless it is prescribed by a physician. If your
child requires medication during the school
year, please have your physician complete the
“Request for Administration of Oral Medication”
form that has been sent home with your child
or you can obtain one at the office at any time.
All medication must be kept at the office with
written instructions.
Halloween at St. Theresa:
We will be celebrating Halloween at our school
on Wednesday, October 31st. The children
will be permitted to bring their costume to
school for our annual parade. We do ask that
you use caution when sending your child to
school with a costume. Sending the students
to school in daily school clothes and their
costume in a bag will keep them from tripping
on long costumes. More information regarding
our Halloween activities will be sent home
shortly. Please remember when sending in
treats that we have students who have life-
threatening allergies to nuts. Wishing you all a
safe and happy Halloween!
Cross-Country Running We wanted to take the time to congratulate each and every student who prepared and
participated in this year’s cross-country running program. These students demonstrated
perseverance, dedication and determination. Way to go boys and girls!
Edsby Oh no! I have lost my newsletter or the information for my child’s school trip!
Worry no more!
Parents will be receiving an email asking them to create their Edsby accounts. This platform will allow parents to have access to school news and information from the teachers at their finger tips. Edsby is also available as an app for cellular devices. The school will send more communication in the near future!
Food Drive
We are pleased to announce that some Battalion Players will be coming to
the school to help serve our Thanksgiving Dinner. Every student who brings in a food
item for the food drive will receive a ticket to go into a draw for a chance to win two free
tickets to a Battalion Home Game!
We would like to thank the families for supporting our Thanksgiving Food Drive!
Sacrament of Reconciliation
This year, students from grade 2 and 3 can celebrate the Sacrament of
Reconciliation. If you and your child are interested in receiving this
Sacrament, the first meeting will be held on October 21st, at Holy Name
Church, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
