DEAR PAW'S CORNER: This Christmas, we thought we bought the perfect puppy for our son. "Chipper" looked adorable and healthy at the pet store when we picked him out. However, a couple of days after we brought him home, Chipper got very ill; he was lethargic and vomiting. It's been fi ve months since I have had a cigarette. This throat burning occurs when I walk or try to exercise or even carry laundry. I would like to know what it means. ANSWER: Antidepressants are not addicting. Theydon'tdamagethebrain.Whattheydoisrestorenormalbrain chemistry. An imbalance in brain messenger chemicals is believed to lead to depression. Yourdaughter'sdoctorwilltellherwhenshecanstoptaking themedicine. If a person relapses into anotherdepression after stopping medicine, then she should take antidepressants for a more prolonged period, possibly for life.

DEAR DR. DONOHUE: I think my husband is an alcoholic. He's not abusive, but his consumption of alcohol is more than a six-pack of beer a day, and sometimes whiskey.
