Despite my love of summer, the change in season from summer to autumn is one of my favourites. Our clocks go back an hour on 28th October, meaning the nights are darker, the leaves are falling, and Strictly Come Dancing is back on the TV! It’s time for cosy nights on the sofa, when you can relax with a cuppa and take a good look through this edition!

For those of you who like to plan ahead for Christmas, now is the time to start. You might just find inspiration for that unusual gift, and if you would like to get your house and garden ready for the festive season, you’ll find all the local people you need to help you within these pages. It’s still a tough economic climate, and its important to spend money wisely and locally, to help us all through these challenging times.

The next edition will be distributed to you from 28th October. Please ensure that anything that you would like to be included is with me by Friday 12th October.

Best Wishes, Paula

It’s never to late to learn to Swim They say that 1 in 5 adults cannot swim and that swimming is the only sport that can save your life! So why doesn’t everyone who hasn’t learnt to swim by the time they are adults get themselves off to swimming lessons to learn?

I run a private adult swimming school at Bircotes Leisure Centre every Sunday night and have been teaching adult swimmers of all ages and abilities for some considerable time, so I reckon I’ve heard most of the reasons that people come up with. Here’s a few: swimming gets you (and particularly your hair) wet; you have to expose bits of you that you’d rather keep under wraps; it’s probably too late to learn at your age.

Some of these things are true: it is very wet in a swimming pool and it is better to swim in a swimming costume than in everyday clothes. As for it being too late to learn, most adults are surprised to find how quickly they can learn. Of course it takes different people different amounts of time, and each person has different aspirations, but to be able to enter the pool and travel around without support should only take a matter of a few lessons.

There is one very real fear that many adults have regarding learning to swim, and that is that they will be recognised. I guess this fear attaches itself to the fear of exposing more of your body than you care to share with the public and the embarrassment of admitting you can’t swim. Firstly I can attest to the truth of the rumour that it is very difficult to recognise people with their clothes on. I have been caught out on a number of occasions by people coming up to me and holding long and detailed conversations with me, while I stand there in bewilderment wondering who they are. Secondly, everyone in the class is in exactly the same position as you; they are there to learn to swim and are wearing a swimming costume (and probably won’t recognise you with your clothes on either). In addition, as we hire the whole pool for the lessons, there is no chance that Mark Foster or Sharron Davies will turn up unannounced to upstage you.

Remember, swimming is probably the only sport that can save your life as well as being probably the most complete workout for your body. It is also fun. Once you have mastered this skill you will be able to enjoy the pool and sea on holiday, go swimming with your kids or simply use the skill to get fit. It’s worth getting wet for.

Tickhill St Mary’s C of E Primary and Nursery School New Beginnings

Well that came round quickly - but probably not quick enough for some parents struggling for activities to keep their children amused during the holidays with the variety of weathers we encountered! Every-one is back with enthusiasm for the new school year. St. Mary’s welcomed some new staff and many new pupils starting ‘proper school’, in Reception, and a good number into Nursery too. All are settling well into their new environment with new friends and activities. The walls are very quickly filling with new and beautiful work!

The Tickhill Horticultural Society Show, was well supported by the school, with winning entries in many different classes. The Jubilee Pet Show, (a new addition) proved popular with William Hardy received 2nd prize for Ben, ‘the Happiest Dog’, and Lewis Spencer getting 1st prize for Molly, ‘the most Adorable.’ Staying with the gardening theme, the Jubilee Woodland Copse is getting established and becoming a lovely addition to the top field. We are again collecting Morrison’s Gardening Vouchers to develop the school’s grounds, if any-one would like to donate them to the school, they will be gratefully received.

The Annual Duck Race will be held on Sunday 30 September at 2p.m. Ticket sales are going well and we thank all participants for their kind support. We look forward to reporting on another successful afternoon next time.

Tickhill Estfeld at Tickhill Horticultural Society Show 2012

Congratulations to everybody involved in the recent 25th Tickhill

Horticultural Society Annual Show. The show as always was a great success and the committee must be very proud that the show is still proving popular, a quarter of a century on from the first show.

Congratulations to everybody that entered something into one of the many categories at the show. There really is something for everybody; whether you are budding gardener, a keen photographer, baker or artist there is a class for you. The new categories of “happiest pet”, “most loveable pet” and “scruffiest pet”, proved popular.

Some of our pupils were winners and proudly wore their rosettes to school on the following Monday morning. Well done to them all as Estfeld also retained the School’s Trophy. We are extremely proud of all the children that entered a class, as in doing so they are making a positive contribution to their village, and as we saw on the day, Tickhill has much to be proud of.

At school we have been busy gardening throughout last academic year. On our return to school in September we found we had a good crop of marrows, beetroot, green beans, carrots, pak choi, sweet corn, potatoes and tomatoes. Some of the produce was entered into the show and the rest was sold to parents and staff in school, raising funds towards our next project – compost bins. Many thanks to the pupils staff, parents and grandparents who helped to water the raised beds and poly tunnel during the long Summer break.

LINE DANCING FOR BEGINNERS AT CARLTON IN LINDRICK CIVIC CENTRE NEW CLASS - STARTED 5TH SEPTEMBER ............but its not too late to get started!!

We're only coming up for the fifth week - and you can still join in and catch up.

Usually a dance is taught every week - but for beginners these would be reviewed for several weeks, so eventually you will end up with a good knowledge of several dances.

We have been very well supported in the first two weeks, but there is always room for more in Carlton in Lindrick Civic Centre. The floor is very spacious!

Line dancing is an excellent way to get some exercise and meet new friends. We play a mix of new country and the latest pop music, and can usually please most of the class! Dancers can sometimes range from 8 - 80 years in one class. You don't need a partner, and everyone is so friendly towards our Beginners - we all know what it's like when you think you have two left feet. That feeling doesn't last long!!

If you have any questions ring Dave on 07808 931534 or Janice on 07590 455340, otherwise just come along - you will be made very welcome. Classes are £2.50 for the first hour or £3.50 for as long as you want to stay. Beginners class 7 - 8 p.m. Intermediate 8 - 10 p.m.

LOCAL LADIES LAUNCH YORKSHIRE’S BIGGEST BUSINESS SHOW, 4 BUSINESS EXPO, IN DONCASTER ON 18TH OCTOBER, 2012

The biggest business show for anyone thinking about starting or expanding in business to raise the roof of the racecourse this autumn

Doncaster will be playing host to the region’s biggest business show this autumn, when the very first 4 Business Expo event descends onto its racecourse on October 18th, 2012, and over five thousand visitors are already expected to attend. The event will see over two hundred stands plus three separate business shows all under one roof, which will transform the racecourse into a one stop business shop featuring everything needed to start or expand a business: A complete work from home exhibition Business seminars and high profile guest speakers A networking event & a networking bar A free crèche and children’s entertainment Stand sitter service Goody bags and products not available on the high street Three business shows – the 4 Business Opportunities Show, the 4 Business Startup Show and The b2c Business Showcase.

“What originally started out as a business opportunities event has now developed into a business expo thanks to all the interest we’ve generated, and we’re delighted to be launching it this year in Doncaster,” explains Kelly Allen. “We’re also really excited to have created something that little bit different in the business exhibition world thanks to the free crèche service we’ll be offering,” she continues. “Unfortunately, as working mums we’re all too well aware of how hard it is to start up a business or expand one whilst fitting it around a family, let alone trying to do it in today’s economic climate,” she goes on. “And so it was very important to us to host an event that will not only provide visitors with access to all the advice and support they need for their professional life, but will also take into account their personal one too.” Being a Community Interest Company and therefore non-profit, any proceeds will be fed back into the event hoped to become an annual one for the region. “Job opportunities now are so few and far between, that we need to help the unemployed into self-employment, as well as supporting SMEs to expand and grow, so we’d encourage anyone interested in starting or expanding a business to come along,” she says. “Entry’s free and there’ll be business opportunities and services, as well as a showcase area, seminars and networking, all under one roof for people to access. Plus, we’ve also made sure that the exhibitors can take advantage of all the resources available too with our stand sitter service, meaning someone can mind their stand for them, whilst they explore the expo.” The free crèche and stand sitter service will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis so please contact Kelly on 01302 515385 to book prior to the event.

Theatre Fun at Everton Theatre goers of all ages are sure of an evening of fun as the Village Players (Everton) present their October production of “Curtain Up!” by Peter Quilter. Everton Village Hall will be transformed into a theatre within a theatre for the set of this fast paced comedy about five women who inherit equal shares in a dilapidated theatre and their plans to bring it back to life. The intrepid quintet try various fund-raising schemes but their most ambitious is to hold a concert featuring a world-famous star, who agrees to appear for no fee. The audience will see the “theatre” morph from a total wreck into a glittering performance venue, where an expectant sell out “audience” is waiting impatiently for the star act. However, plans go awry as the five would be impresarios race to keep the show on the road. Curtain Up! Will be staged in Everton Village Hall between Wednesday 24th and Saturday 27th October. Tickets are priced at £5 (£4 for students) and can be obtained from the Players Box Office (01777 817275), or via their web site (www.evplayers.org.uk). The Players are again repeating their offer of combined tickets for the play and a pre-theatre dinner at the popular Blacksmith’s Arms, yards away from the Village Hall. Details are on the Players web site, or can be obtained when booking by ‘phone.

TICKHILL PARISH ROOM

Although Spring is traditionally a time of new beginnings, I often think of September in a similar way!

The kids go back to school with new enthusiasm for a new year and a new teacher, with all sorts of new opportunities on the horizon. In the garden its time to tidy the summer away and start making plans for seed/plant orders and new garden designs! We may even be starting to plan for Christmas shopping - in the vain hope of getting it all done early this year!

Similarly I think people are looking to start new hobbies, new classes and new pastimes. Where better to start than a class in the Parish Room?

We have a wide range of classes. We start the week with Pilates on a Monday evening, for all ages and abilities and also a class for pregnant ladies, then on Tuesdays we have Nellie Stagles School of Theatre Dance for children beginning with the tots and ending up with the teenagers, then from 7-9 the Yoga class is back after their summer break. On the first Wednesday of the month we have the WI in the afternoons and the Francophiles in the evening. Thursday brings us round to another Pilates class during the morning. Every Saturday we have our coffee morning, where you can all meet up with friends to catch up on the gossip! Every Sunday sees The Way Christian Fellowship gathering in the afternoon.

From Monday 8th October (9.00-10.00am) we will have a new exercise class starting, with Julie Ann Harper. Julie teaches in and around Doncaster and has been encouraged by our facilities (and a Tickhill member of her Doncaster class who didn't fancy travelling in the winter months!) to start up her class in the Parish Room. Her gentle exercise class will appeal to ladies and gents who want to dance and be active, but don't want an aerobic workout!

Tickhill Parish Room has excellent modern facilities. We have a wall mounted screen and projector for use with your laptop, CD and DVD connection/use. A hearing loop and radio microphones ensure good audibility. An entertainment licence allows live and recorded music, films, dance and drama to be enjoyed up to 10.30 p.m. There is plenty of on-street parking nearby. If you would like to come and look at the facilities, or simply make a booking, please ring me on 07840 419763.

We've come a long way since the days of the school dentist visiting. Several people rang about this 'event' - Nora Briggs in particular remembers who was first in the queue for treatment! So far only one report of the cellar ghost!

Arts Review and What’s Going On - October 2012 Hilary Cartmel

Macbeth was good, and still is, - if you can get yourself a ticket – do so. My guess is that it will be sold out. The miserable darkness of the stark Scottish landscape and chill castles was staged very simply. It’s a play where the scenes take place mostly in gloaming or darkness - even during daytime there is little light. I did Macbeth for my ‘O’ level English Lit, and there was a time when I could have recited tracts of it. I haven’t seen it on stage since, and this production did it proud. It’s the first time that I have seen the Crucible main stage set up in the round, the audience tightly and completely encircling a round stage set with ‘rocks’ around its edge and echoing the image and theme of the crown which was repeated and emphasised in many ways throughout the play, continually reminding us that without the lust for the Crown there would be no plot. The action didn’t take any prisoners, Banquo’s ghost was horrifying, we saw Lady McDuff’s brains dashed out and the sword fight at the end looked and sounded very real, the witches were old hags and not some idea of supernatural spooks, the poetry was beautifully spoken. Crucible Theatre until Saturday 6 October.

In contrast the Sheffield Theatres are doing some comedy in October, it’s the Last Laugh Comedy Festival including some household names. Tickets £12 - £21.50

At the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Wakefield – Kneehigh Theatre have reworked Steptoe and Son – until October13 - Darkly comic, and deeply moving, this is a 20th century icon, re imagined for the new generation. www.wyp.org.uk

Closer to home on Friday 12 October at The Rock (Wesley Centre, Maltby) is John Tams and Barry Coope – in my humble opinion Tams is the best voice singing in the English Folk tradition and together they are one of the funniest duos to grace any stage. Good therapy. Tickets £10 on the door www.therock.org.uk

At Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery from 20 October until 9 December the annual ‘Open Art’ exhibition begins with walls hung floor to ceiling with work from artists across the region with many works for sale.

At Cusworth Hall an exhibition entitled Opposites Attract – a two person show - Ashley Jackson and Graham Ibbeson, two of Yorkshire’s best loved artists ( not counting Hockney of course) I can’t imagine what this show will look like, but I have every faith that it will work well. Ibbeson was a student at Trent Poly( as I was - but long before my time you understand) and was famous for two things, his ability to consume sandwiches and his wonderful humorous clay modelling.

Tickhill Music Society’s October concert is on the 19th – Guitarist Dimitris Dekavallas program to include Bach, Guillliani and others at St Mary’s School at 8pm tickets £10 on the door

Village Ventures is bringing music from American roots musicians Buffalo Gals to Bircotes Town Hall on Sunday 21 October . This lot ( a six piece band of not just Gals) have a claim not only to fantastic enthusiastic and talented musicianship but also humour too. Tickets £8.50 01302 752515 / 752642 or on the door

Mayflower Sanctuary, Narrow Lane, Bawtry, Doncaster

Well where did the summer go ! I cant believe its Sept already. Everyone back to school and everything back to normal. But there is still lots of work to do to keep our funds coming in. We are busy organising our usual Sponsored dog walk in Bawtry forest courtesy of Sir Jack Whittacker who is good enough to let us use the forest for this event.

The walk is on the 14th Oct and starts at 11.00 am.It is a 2 mile or 5 mile walk in this most beautiful setting . The walk is open to every one and you can collect a sponsor form from the Sanctuary or we are able to e mail one to you.

Please come along and join us its a good way of getting some fresh air and exercise. Its also a great fun way of raising money.

Also don’t forget the French theme evening (Allo Allo) on the 17th November at Ye Olde Bell Barnby Moor. Fancy dress optional. It promises to be a fantastic evening with great food dancing and entertainment from the Bruvvers Blue who are an amazing tribute group. There will be a small auction and a raffle . If you would like further information about our Sanctuary please call 01302 711330

Marley Approx age: 4 months Yet another kitten from an unwanted litter.

Although his previous owner loved Marley very much, she was unable to keep him due to her daughters allergies.

Marley is just a treasure to have around. Always looking for fun, he will play with a scrap of paper for hours

but he is just as happy curled up in your lap having his tummy tickled. All he wants is a family to call his own, regular meals and a basket (or

lap) to snuggle up into. Not much to ask for is it?

Blue Greyhound x Whippet

Age on arrival: 9 months old

Blue finds himself looking for a new home because his previous owners are now working long hours and feel it is unfair to leave him alone. We have found Blue to

be a very loving and playful dog, who has quickly become a favourite with everyone

who has worked with him. Blue has had an operation on his patella (kneecap) as is recovering well. Should there be any re-occurrence

in the future Mayflower will be responsible for his treatment.

Because he can be boisterous at times we feel he would be better homed with children that were slightly older, if any at all, just to cut down on the risk of him

jumping up and hurting a youngster. Blue is a dog with lots of potential and with the right handling we feel he will quickly

become a much loved member of any family.

T HE SHEFFIELD SINGERS

It's soon got round to 'that' time of year hasn't it?

The Sheffield Singers will be performing their annual concert in Tickhill Parish Church on Thursday 20 December 2012 at 7.30pm. All the usual treats will be there : wonderful Christmas music and readings, superb musicians and performers as well as 'Team PA' - Patrick Andrews with his wine & mince pies!

The profits this year will go to 'Lost Chord'. These are a group of professional musicians who perform for those affected by all forms of dementia in care homes and at day centres, with amazing results.

We are gradually moving into the 21st century and tickets are now available in advance online at http://www.arenaticketshop.co.uk/whats-on/christmas-concert Buying tickets in advance will help us plan and cater for the event as we do expect that 'Lost Chord' will bring their own groupies. This year it will be tickets for admission and programmes will be given free when you arrive. For those who still hanker after 'the good old days' tickets will also be available at the door as usual. After quite a number of years of holding the price at £6 we have had to revise this and tickets are now £7 but accompanied children, 16 years and under will, as always, be admitted free of charge. Further details in the November issue.

Old Inhabitants It has been my privilege and pleasure to have lived in Tickhill now for forty five years. Despite this long residence it is likely to take another decade or so before being accepted as properly belonging. Even then I will not qualify as a true Tickhillian (or Tickhiller, as some people would have it). It is not possible to identify a genuine old inhabitant just by looking or by casual acquaintance. The only true means of identification is to eavesdrop on a group of them talking. It is a revelation. The powers of recall and the depth of local knowledge are a source of wonder.

The imaginary conversation may go something like this: Sorry to hear Alice Jackson has died. She was in my class at primary school when Miss Brewster was our teacher. Gosh! she was a bit of a tyrant was Gertrude Brewster. I had the cane from her more than once. Not as often as Neville Williams though, he was always in trouble. I used to work with Neville on the railway and he was a lovely chap. Would do anything for anybody. Didn’t he marry that Sarah girl? Yes, she was his first wife. Her mother were a Bullock. Lived somewhere near the Spital. She died tragically in ’47 and it was several years before he married again. That was Hannah Cartright who came from Loversall and worked part time at the garage. Came to work on that old bike in all weathers. It would be the Dysons at the garage in those days. Remember that old car they ran as a taxi? Kept breaking down even though run by motor mechanics. Young Ron Dyson was a bit of a tearaway and ended up joining the army. Grandma Dyson was nice. Didn’t she help with cleaning the church? Yes, there was a team of ladies I remember, because my Aunty Maud was one of them. They were bossed about by one of the church wardens. That would be Billy Havers who had his finger in everything. Lived up Lindrick somewhere and kept lots of cats. He married that Molly Spencer who lived in Church Lane.

And this sort of talk can go on for hours. The speakers, between them, knew everybody, and what’s more, knew most of their private business, where they lived, how old they were, who all their relatives were and what happened to them. This is total recall and local oral history on a grand scale. It is a treat to overhear these exchanges which we incomers cannot hope to emulate. We can only stand on the sidelines and admire the performance.

With today’s more fragmented society when people leave their home town to go to university or find work elsewhere, this kind of local memory store is unlikely to be replicated which will be a loss.

Wadworth School enjoyed the Olympics

London 2012 has inspired us in many different ways .For example on super Saturday when Jessica Ennis and Mo Farah won their gold medals both in the same hour, on the same day at the same stadium it truly was a day never to forget.

We also enjoyed the moment when Heather and Helen won our first British gold medal. We were really sad when Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendalton did their last Olympic races but it was an unforgettable moment when they both got gold. As well as getting lots of gold medals and coming 3rd on the medals table they, I’m sure, inspired future athletes.

In conclusion it makes us proud to be British! By Lucy, Sophie & Hannah

Unfortunately the closing date for this issue was before our opening meeting on 20th September so a report on that meeting will have to wait until next month. However even at the time of writing we know that a number of new

members have joined the Society this year, a very warm welcome to you all.

Our meeting this month is on the 18th October when Dave Aspden will talk on “The Cultural Quarter Excavations” i.e.the Waterdale area of Doncaster. At the time of writing your scribe does not have full details of this talk but if it follows the pattern of last year’s archaeological talks it will and reveal interesting facets of our social history. As usual the meeting will be in the Methodist Schoolroom stating at 7.30pm. As usual visitors will be welcome.

Work on our new History Book of Tickhill is going well and at present we hope to publish in September next year. Thank you to everybody who has looked at and commented on the first chapter of the book which has been on view in the Library over the summer – your comments which were overwhelmingly favourable have nevertheless provided us with some useful guidance. The chapter has now been withdrawn from the Library but is on our website www.tickhillhistorysociety.org in the section headed “News”.

Finally on behalf of all our members I would like to welcome Sally Tyas as our new Chair, under her guidance I am sure the Society will continue to flourish.

TICKHILL CRICKET CLUB MILLENNIUM KNOCK-OUT COMPETITION Finals Day Sunday 9th September

MS Sports Plate Final Scarbrough Arms 66 all out - Ancient Juniors 70 for 3

A very young Scarbs team struggled against some tight bowling and lost all eight wickets for just 66 with only Hayden Wilcock and Ollie Brennan reaching double figures. Jake Wildsmith took 3 for 28, young Josh Court 2 for 20 and Alex Rowland 2 for 5. The Ancient Juniors achieved their victory in the twelfth over with Granddad Jim Wildsmith batting all the way through for just 5 not out whilst skipper Tom Johnson retired on 29 and Alex Rowland finished it off with 19 not out. Umpires:- Graham Mickley and Brian Robinson. Scorer :- Phil Thomas MS Sports Cup Final Friday Fruitcakes 123 for 6 - The Oak 127 for 2

Tight bowling by seamers Allen, Skinner and Lovejoy restricted the Fruitcakes' scoring rate and earned regular wickets with John Dickinson and Paul Elton the only batsmen to retire. On his return to the crease John was bowled by Tom Allen for 29 and it was left to Paul to bat out the overs, finishing on 39 not out. The Oak were up with the scoring rate from the start of their innings and following Tom Barnett's dismissal for 22 Jamie Doyle retired on 26 and Matt Martin 25. With the winning boundary scored off the first ball of the 14th over Tom Allen finished on 20 not out. Umpires :- Graham Mickley and Phil Thomas. Scorer :- James Hodge

The MS Sports trophies were presented to the winning captains by Club Chairman Pete Barnett who thanked the players, umpires, scorers and supporters for a good day's cricket. Moving the finals from August Bank Holiday Sunday proved successful.

It is often said that you shouldn’t visit the same place twice as it will never be the same. Well, we went to Essex 2012 repeating our visits in 2008 and 2004. This was not quite the same as it was held on a different site to that which it had been held before. A good plan – the location was different, the site layout was different and much of the activity participation different.

It all started with a massive opening ceremony where all 9000 participants and staff gathered together for a celebration of friendship and peace. Our own George Brookfield appeared on stage as part of the entertainments team and proved he is no slacker when it comes to “dancing” even if he had to wear a box over his head – never found out why. Dave Towner also went down as staff and could be found showing people how to wear turbans or understand the eco life as some of his many tasks.

Despite the blazing sunshine almost every day, our scouts and explorers (32 of them) took full advantage of what was on offer and made many friends. We celebrated Darcy’s 14th birthday with a birthday cake, a gift from the sub-camp team and a mention in the camp newspaper. Following her birthday she was immediately promoted out of the under 14 activity group to the over 14 activity group.

We took part in canoeing, kayaking, dragon boat racing, climbing, caving, zorbing, craft making, survival skills, circus skills, it’s a Knockout to name but a few. Every evening was spent dancing, making friends, visiting other groups and generally relaxing in the company of many like minded individuals. A couple of our explorers who weren’t too sure about the safety of me and Delia Smith (the 2 oldest participants on our own camp) took it on themselves, one evening, to escort us both down to the dance tent, accompany us into the dark, incredibly noisy dance area, escort us out again and make sure that we got back to the camp safely!! Very considerate of them and really, it summed up the attitude of all of our Scouts and Explorers. They just got on with whatever was thrown at them with enthusiasm, consideration for others and a great sense of fun. They were a pleasure to be with and once again showed that these youngsters can be trusted to look after themselves and each other. Where could you get all this for about £250 – 7 full days of challenging activity, 3 square meals a day, comfortable (well there has to some economy somewhere) sleeping accommodation and luxury coach transport there and back?

We now have started back with our normal meeting schedule and activities revitalised and raring to go. There is already a night of challenge and adventure around the village planned for the middle of October. A fireworks camp is on the menu for Scouts and a 10th birthday camp is planned for the Explorer scout unit.

All this activity has to be financed and our first jumble sale will be held on October 20th in the Scout & Guide HQ at 12.00. We will be open for receipt of any items from 10.00 or, if a collection is needed please call 01302 743430.

Tickhill Town Council

The Audit for the Council’s Finances is now complete and 2011/12 have just been finalised. As a legal requirement we must advertise the accounts and the certificate has been displayed as required by law on the Tickhill Town Council Notice board and on our Website, alongside the financial statement.

Our Financial position has been consolidated over the past 12months and hopefully with prudence and careful spending we will remain in a healthy position.

Each month the accounts for payments are prepared and distributed to all Councillors and an up to date statement of receipts and payments for the financial year to date are also submitted. Payments due that month are provided and set out against budget. The finances are monitored both monthly and quarterly. At year end the Internal Auditor scrutinises all transactions and bank information and it is then sent to Government Approved External Auditors.

As you are probably all aware it is the intention to bring the Pavilion up to a more usable standard by replacing the 20 year old kitchen. As monies allow, it will have to be step by step.

I have been able to make savings in many areas to facilitate this, mainly in the staffing area. Much reduction has been made also with my own home being within the town thus reducing travel and postage costs.

It is hoped next year we will begin to see the fruits of our labours and hopefully the Pavilion facilities will increase our revenue.

Please be aware that during the October half term holiday the Pavilion will be closed whilst some refurbishment takes place.

I have included in this edition of Tickhill Today a full break down of our financial position.
