One Plan Best The assassination of President Kennedy has pointed up the necessshy

ity of having a capable and infonned vice president available at all times to assume the duties of the presidency

At present the United States has no vice president thus we have no provision for inability of the president to perfoll1Il his duties In case of the death of the president tfue office passes to the Speaker of the House but many people oppose this order set up by the Act of 1947

The case of temporary succession however is currently the more important problem Several different plans have been proposed as solutions One provides for the popular election of two vice presidents Another provides that the vice president who has succeeded to the Presidency should name his own successor who would then be approved by Congress And yet another plan states that the most recent Electoral College be recaHed and vote to fill the vacancy

Congress should consider some method and adopt a plan for the election of a new vice president in case the previous one succeeds to the presidency Nancy Herrick

Fear vs Dreams Teenagers why is the majority of our generation running scarshy

ed Why do most teenagers go steady marry early or run in packs for a sense of security Why do we settle for little things or shrink into our own little crowd oblivious to rest of the world Why do we make grades more important than knowledge

Are these things caused by the constant pressure of our parents or by the schools demands Or is this just the excuse we use to cover up our fear of meeting challenges because we are afraid that we will not do as well as others or we may be laughed at or be different from others

Our teenage years are for dreaming big dreams learning nemiddotw thoughits and ideas malting new friends adopting new ways of thinking learning to distinguish between sound ideas and trash makshying gigantic steps forward-yes and earth-shattering flops for failures will help us to succeed later

Mrs Sylvia Schuman noted writer summed our place in the world this way set your sights high dont settle or too little too soon Get into the act Everything thats going on in the world today is grist for the mill of your thoughts your emotions and your ideals

Cindy Calkins

Attitudes Also Important Are you scared because youre not in the top ten percent It

is true that many colleges offer scholarships only to the top ten percent Many students feel that since they are not in this group in high schoo they will have a hard time in college

This isnt always true Often students who have qualities such as determination and self-discipline are really the ones who do well in college and later in life Such a thing as sticking to a problem till you mastermiddot it is a personality quality that helps one to succeed

Many students take easy courses to get good grades and make the honor roll Actually they are cheating themselves out of a sound education Easy subjects which require little study may prove to be a handicap in college

If you are truly trying your best studying every night and understanding your subject stop worrying Everyone cant be in the top ten percent remember others succeed too Maridee Bailey

Two Parties Better Than iOne Election time is drawing near and for the first time Oklahoma

will experience a race involving two strong parties Our nation Was founded by men who took an active interest in

the United States and government in our society would fail to opershyate as it should in a democracy if only one party existed

Likewise the two party system which has been introduced into Oklahoma politics should make better the quality of state government by bringing out the best men both parties have

The resuilt will be men of ability in key positions serving the state of Oklahoma and the citizens not a pilitical party

By MARIDEE BAILEY Assembly recently in the auditori- after last time It seems someone on the back for the good job

Stupid ads Two hours Ive worked W~ do journalism I stushydents have to plan how ads go on the Tiger Tales pages Others do not know this is an art and that they are not thrown in a hit-orshymiss manner on the page

Imagine Mrs Childs just gives us 21 ads and tells us to fit them on four pages That wouldnt be so bad if we didnt have to follow rules Dont go up more than six inches dont have straight lines and make ads in step to the right dont place two of the same kind on a page

Ten pm Ill try again Why did that crazy dog have to

do that The kitchen floor is the only place in the house where I could spread aU the pages and ads around me How will I explain the muddy paw marks aClOSS the paper to Mrs Childs Would she believe me if I said the dog ran across them Of course not No one ever believes the truth

11 30 pm These ads just wont fit Its

impossible Mother I give up I will just take F on these ads What-move this one and that Why it works

I think there ought to be a law against people who can come in and make something like that work after I have been struggling with it for hours Further IJ1O[e I think the smart-aleck J IIs should struggle with ads someshytime

Imagine Mrs Childs just gives us 21 ads and tells us to fit them on four pages That wouldnt be so bad if we didnt have to follow rules Dont go up more than six inches dont have straight lines and make ads in step to the right dont place two of the same kind on a page
