Creative Thinking Test
Program: session 12
TIC TAC Project - Scratch Conference 2012 – MIT Media Lab
Forum Impulsa: Scratch workshop
Evaluation: Creative Thinking Test
TIC TAC Project - Scratch Conference 2012 – MIT Media Lab
- Adapted from Torrance Test of Creative Thinking (1962)
- Figural test (thinking with pictures)
- Verbal test (thinking with words)
- Extra question: mathematical reasoning
Evaluation: Creative Thinking Test
TIC TAC Project - Scratch Conference 2012 – MIT Media Lab
- Each test has 43 points to be evaluated (0, 0.5, 1)
- We are evaluating characteristics like originality, flexibility, elaboration, emotional expressiveness, fantasy, etc.
- 43 points x 2 tests x 60 students x 4 evaluators = 20,640 points
Preliminary results
TIC TAC Project - Scratch Conference 2012 – MIT Media Lab
Test results:
Scores (Test 1): Mean (Average): 19.71143Standard deviation: 6.23297
Scores (Test 2):Mean (Average): 18.55714Standard deviation: 4.7832
Reliability of the test • Linear Correlation Coefficient between
evaluators: Min: 0.532, Max: 0.936, Average: 0.729
• Linear Correlation Coefficient between the 2 tests:
Average: 0.325
Conclusions
TIC TAC Project - Scratch Conference 2012 – MIT Media Lab
- More than 30 workshops completed
- 2 Creative Thinking Tests given
- Very good level of satisfaction of participants (students and accompanying teachers)
- The project has had a good impact: Carme Auguet School, Forum Impulsa…
Conclusions
TIC TAC Project - Scratch Conference 2012 – MIT Media Lab
- The combination of hands-on workshops and creativity capsules seems to work very well.
- We detected an interest of teachers for training. So next semester we will include teacher training activities.
- We need at least an extra year of workshops and some other tests in order to obtain conclusive results.
