Congratulations to all 4-Her’s and their families who have demonstrated

their mastery within a variety of projects at regional and state competi-

tions and county and state fair events recently. There is a great sense of

accomplishment in showing others what you have learned by demon-

strating these new skills to peers. A reflection upon how you’ve learned is

as important as what you have learned. Sometimes learning new skills

can be challenging and using a previous learning style can help. Maybe

you can recall all the lyrics to a song because of the catchy melody but

have a hard time memorizing vocabulary words? Making a song of your

own using the new words may help to jog your memory. Or you draw

pictures to help remember the steps to solve a problem or tell a story.

During national 4-H week you are encouraged to celebrate your 4-H

experience with all you meet during the week of October 1st-7th with the

theme “4-H Grows Here”. Share how you have grown in each of the 4 “H”

areas (Head, Heart, Hands & Health) and the great opportunity for them

to learn. Use your favorite style of learning to express your enjoyment of

4-H- draw a picture and hang it on your locker, design a t-shirt to wear

that week or sign up at the county office to record a radio spot on WKDI.

Continue to show your green pride this month!

Congratulations to Jeremy Fisher for completing his Diamond Clover Project!

Many people will enjoy the product of your hard work and determination!

Action Newspaper, to be printed as a supplement for The

Delmarva Farmer and published electronically through

Maryland 4-H. The goal of the supplement is to be written by

4-H members across the state, covering Maryland geograph-

ically, 4-H participation, and the diverse 4-H projects.

4-H members can write stories, editorials, testimonials,

columns and submit pictures to the paper. We encourage 4-H

youth to reflect on the activities of their club, county and state in the past year and consider sharing

it with other in written form.

Submissions are due September 25 for the October 3rd publication. Send articles

to: [email protected]

Healthy living Ambassadors on the MOVE!

Are you a healthy living ambassador? We want to hear what cool activities you have

been doing to spread the Healthy Living Message across Caroline County. Individuals

completing at least 6 activities and reporting them to the online state healthy living site

are rewarded with a healthy living action t-shirt and are often invited to attend state and

national meetings. So, go online now to review cool ideas for your planning and then

return to the site to tell us what you’ve done: http://extension.umd.edu/4-h/4-h-

program-areas/healthy-living-ambassador

A computer station is

available at the county

office for 4-H youth and

volunteers to complete

online applications and

trainings.

Have you completed the public speaking portion of your project?

Each year a 4-Her needs to practice their public speaking skills by sharing what they have

learned that year through presenting a demonstration at their local club meeting or presenting

a public speech. You now have the opportunity to share your 4-H experience through a record-

ed audio clip for WKDI radio. It’s very simple. Prepare your 2 minute speech (be sure to include

your name). Read your 2 minute speech while recording the audio. Send your audio file to

[email protected]. Yes, this means you can practice and record until you are satisfied with

your vocal tone and flow. Please call the office or email to let us know you will be submitting an

audio file.

RARE Bear Sew-In (Family sewing night)

Join the Caroline County 4-H families in making Rare Bears for children with rare diseases. RARE Science (www.rarescience.org) started the RARE Bear program for grassroot communities to use outreach events to make cloth bears for children suffering from rare diseases. Community members gather to cut out and sew together one-of-a-kind teddy bears for one-of-a-kind “rare” kids. Once the rare bear finds its new home with a child, a picture of the youth and the child’s story is shared with the bear’s creator. No sewing experience necessary- we will teach you too! Call the office to sign-up today for this great holiday event on Monday December 18th. Registration is $10 for each bear the family or individual plans to complete

& donate. Free volunteers are also welcome. Donations of fabric, notions, monies and borrowed sewing machines to conduct this project are also welcome. All are welcome to join this event- invite your friends!
