Pastoral Prayer & The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy

kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

Bradley Swire Affirmation of Faith The Apostles’ Creed UMH 881 I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. * Universal

Carrying the Light of Christ Into the World

Message Overview & Notes

And In Jesus Christ... John 1:1-5, 14

“When God sought to communicate his love for us, he sent Jesus. It was in his Son that God’s message, God’s Word, came to us and

became our defining story. Through Jesus, God was saying: I Am. You matter to me. I love you.”

1) “Creed” is a Latin word meaning, “I Believe.” The

beliefs expressed in the Apostle’s Creed are foundational to claiming the name “Christian”.

2) Jesus is: Yeshua– Hebrew word meaning “deliverer” or

“savior.” Jesus is: Christ– the Greek word that means “anointed one,” that comes from the Hebrew word meaning “Messiah.”

3) Jesus is not just A son of God, Jesus is THE Son of God. 4) The term “Word” in John 1 comes from the Greek word,

Logos, meaning logic. Logos is the mind, the logic, the creative power, the reasoning, and even the character and power of God.

5) Jesus is the divine Word that reveals the depth of God’s

love. The Incarnation was not simply to have God walk in our shoes; it was to allow God, literally, to meet us on our own ground— to become one of us in order to reveal himself to us in terms that we could understand, showing us what he is like and what his will is for our lives and for the world.
