164 DRAFT EWES Slightly less Ewes about today which sold to a stronger trade, with the best ewes looking well placed, reaching £148 for a pen in from the Grigg family of Trengune, with many pens over the £115 mark. Medium fleshed ewes to £80-90 with the leaned, framed ewes between £70 and £80 and the Hill breds anywhere between £48-£55.

271 PRIME LAMBS Not so many lambs forward met a stronger trade, with the buyers keen for the Lambs that are 44-48kgs. Top of the day was £120 for a pen of 42kgs in from K Dawe of Whitestone, with plenty of pens over the £110 mark. Other lambs to £119 in from Roger Vosper and another pen of 52kgs to £118 for the Goodenough Family of Davidstow.

471 STORE LAMBS A stronger entry of just under 500 Store Lambs the best still £90-£100 which was helped by the increase of Lamb trade with the medium Lambs between £80-£92, the smaller types between £60-£70. Top of the day was £99.50 for the Tucker Family of Tredale, with others to £98 for the Goodenough Family again. With plenty of pens over the £88 mark.

STORE CATTLE

Some 250 Stores and Stirks made a very successful day at Hallworthy with a slightly stronger trade in

general, still just a few slighter animals deflecting on the trade. Top spot today going to the first

animals through the ring from J H Bolt & Son of Trelash, 23 month Limousin x Steers with length and

power to £1295, and a second pen at £1150 x5 and £1140 x4. Equal top was Mr Dawe of Whitstone

with his usual quality Hereford Steers, his top single Steer to £1295. Next Mr J Vokes of Lockingate,

Bugle, with another outstanding pen of Cattle, his top a single Limousin x 19 months to £1280, and a

second classy Steer to £1220. M Britton of Temple next with a superb pair of Aberdeen Angus Steers,

plenty of scope to £1195. Mr Cobbledick of South Petherwin saw his topping Aberdeen Angus x 23

months to £1160. J Masters of Mount with his usual quality South Devon Steers, saw his 16 month

pair to £1140. Younger Steers sold well with M Britton Limousin x Steer with great definition at 13

months to £1100. James Harper had a single Charolais x Steer to £1000.

Heifers

Again it was the Bolt Family with a superb pen of 6 Limousin x Friesian Heifers with power and scope

to £1235. Roger Parsons of South Petherwin next with a single British Blue x to £1195. The Wood

Family of St Merryn ran in close with a super run of Cattle, their British Blue Heifers to £1115. Jim

Buckland of St Buryan saw his 16 month Simmental Heifers away at £1100.

Cows to a top of 138ppkilo for a South Devon x Cow from the Pridham Family and 118ppkilo for M

Britton with a Hereford x.

STIRK REPORT

A quiet day in the Stirk pens today and topped at £495 for some 5 month Aberdeen Angus Steers for Ashley Sanders of Davidstow, with his Gallaway and Angus Heifers to £410. Roger Kempthorne had a run of tail enders and sold his Aberdeen Angus Steers to £465, and Angus Heifers to £445, and British Blues to £420. Darren Hooper had a run of Aberdeen Angus Heifers which sold very well making £385. More about for next week with 22 British Blues and 39 Limousins on the books.

REARING CALF REPORT

A good entry of 50 odd quality rearing calves forward topped at £368 twice for a smart British Blue in from again Alan and Kev Sanders of Minster, who had other Bulls to £360 and £348. The best of their Heifers to £285 for a very pretty Heifer looking well placed, with others to £238 and £218. Martin Dally had a run of British Blue Calves and made £225, £200 and £195 for his Bulls, and his Heifers not far behind at £238, £323 and £200. Jo Bass had another quality run and made £302 for the best of her British Blue Bulls, with her Heifers to £268 and £190, and the best of the Friesians to £75 again from Jo Bass of St Teath.
