Dear Parents What a fantastic day we had on Tuesday for our Year 3-6 Athletics Day. Congratulations to all the children who took part. It was terrific to see the children dressed in their house colours for the day. It was fantastic to see and hear the children heartily cheering each other on regardless of their placings . Thanks to the staff, especially Ian Harrison for the planning and organisation of this day. Around 54 children from this event have qualified to compete at the West Zone athletics meeting at Burnside Primary School next Thursday. We wish these athletes all the very best and know they will be wonderful ambassadors for the school.

As mentioned in this riveting section of the newsletter last week, Parent Teacher Interviews are fast approaching on Wednesday the 27th and Thursday the 28th of November. The interviews on the 27th are from 3:15 – 5:30 and on the 28th from 3:15 – 8:30. These interviews are for all parents of Year 4-6 children, while for parents of Year 0-3 children they are for Term 4 ‘anniversary’ children as well as all other parents, who would like to ‘wrap up the year’ with their child’s teacher. In short I strongly recommend that all parents make time for these interviews.

To book a time go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz • Simply enter the school code 4BU96 and press ‘GO’. • You will be guided through three simple steps, and a few moments later you will get an email confirming your interviews. If you do not have access to the website, call into the school office to make a time.

As the year draws to a close we currently have $19,331 outstanding from activity fees. While a significant portion of this ($13,665) is the cost of swimming lessons in a few weeks time, if you have not paid for your child’s activities that they have participated in this year, it would be greatly appreciated if you could settle these debts as soon as possible. I appreciate that this has been a financially difficult year for many families; however the school cannot afford to absorb this sort of cost. Of course a big thank you goes to those families who have paid their activity fees and annual donation. While the donation is voluntary the school does rely heavily on this anticipated income as part of its annual operations budget. The Board of Trustees has set the school donation at $155 for the eldest child and $80 for subsequent children. Obviously each family is slightly different however for a family with two children at school this equates to $5:87 per week. Payment of the annual donations along with PSG fundraising programme allow the children at Ilam to have access to a range of extras that would not be possible otherwise. A small sample of these include; the amount of Learning Support tuition offered, the standard of library books in the school, the range of reading and maths resources, the new furniture in the junior and senior school and the amount of computers and IT resources available to the children. Your efforts to support the school while needed, is very much valued.

The junior school are delighted to have an amazing group of women from the Riccarton Rotary Club's Inner Wheel supporting us. They are visiting classrooms once a week to read with children. This started early this term and both the children and teachers are enjoying the support.

With the arrival of lovely, warm weather over the past few weeks, a number of uniform items are being left around the school. Can you please ensure that your child’s uniform is named and that they are wearing their own uniform items and have not picked up someone else’s by mistake.

Thank you for your support of children wearing their hats in Term 4, I have noticed an improvement in the number of children doing this. Thank you also for your support of ensuring your children wearing their correct uniform. I am seeing less and less non-uniform items being worn.

Have a lovely weekend. Kind Regards

Paul Dolan Principal
