From the desk of Father Kelm Happy Feast Day!
In St. Peter’s First Letter, Chapter 3, verses 18 & 19 he tells us that Christ died for our sins in order to lead us to God, and although He suffered death in the flesh, His soul continued living. It was in this mode of existence – the spirit world – that He went to preach to the souls in prison. Our Eucharistic sacrifice is a non-bloody recreation of His sacrifice on the Cross, in which He offered His totality to our Father. His divine nature cannot die, only His body died and blood spilled. His soul, like ours, is imperishable, so He went to work right away again, preaching to the souls in “prison”. Our Sacrament contains His body and blood, soul and divinity – the wholeness of Christ. This is why we speak of the “Real Presence” or the “True Presence” of Christ in the Sacrament. This “wholeness of Christ” is
effected and signified by the conversion of the bread
and wine. This is what Sts. Ambrose and John Chrysostom taught and to which the Church has clung since antiquity. He still resides with our Father in heaven, in the fullness of His resurrected life, while feeding our souls with grace from our altars. We acknowledge our Lord’s ability to dwarf our understanding as He spans time and eternity the way He does, so we appreciate the cases throughout history of consecrated altar breads that start bleeding. One case, which Bl. Pope Paul VI had examined by doctors in 1971, involved a celebrant’s host that turned into a piece of human heart wall and the cells were just as mysteriously living! As St. Paul wrote in 2 Cor 3:18 “All of us, gazing on the Lord’s glory with unveiled faces, are being transformed from glory to glory into His very image by the Lord who is the Spirit.”. We must necessarily be content with our limited understanding of this mystery, and enjoy the hope of eternal life it gives us as we faithfully embrace the truth of the matter.
From 1 to 2 PM today we’ll have Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction, stop by and soak in some glory.
See You In Church, Fr. Kelm
LITURGICAL MINISTERS We are starting to work on the schedule for July thru September. Please call the office at 893-4073, or email: [email protected] with any dates you are not able to serve, or changes in your Mass preference.
Thank you for your ministry!
Patience, Patience Kids are notoriously impatient creatures. Come to think of it, the same can be said for many adults. Why is patience so hard for so many of us, especially in prayer? All of us at one time or another wonder, “Why hasn’t God answered my prayers?” We may cry out as Jesus did from the cross, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46) It may be that God has better things in store for us. Or, just as a parent doesn’t always grant a child’s wish for the child’s good, so it may be with God. Perhaps, as the prophet Isaiah reminds us, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord.” (Isaiah 55:8) What ever the reason—for who can know God’s mind? -feel free to pour out your very impatience itself with God.
Creator, help me trust that You have plans for my welfare and not for my harm; plans to give me a hope-filled future.
