• The earliest thrillers date back to the 1920's/early 30's.

• In the early 30's (around about the time that the thriller genre was introduced) there was a certain line that film makers had to restrict themselves too when creating a thriller, in fear that it would be too much for the audience of this time to handle. The Bourne Identity (1980) was the first thriller written in the modern style that we know today.

• The most common sub genres in thrillers are mystery, crime and psychological thrillers. The film thriller genre developed from early novels. The very first being Little Red Riding (made in 1697)which some people say is a Phyco thriller. The novels then being made into thriller films.

WHAT'S THE MOST COMMON TYPES OF THRILLERS?

• A film is considered a thriller when the audience have that rush of adrenaline and excitement when watching the film. Obviously, as the audience changes and develops, this will also have to change. The reasons that thrillers change over the years is because audiences adapt to what is considered 'thrilling' and therefor seek more exciting plots.

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN A FILM IS A THRILLER?

• As time went on, more and more sub genres were introduced into the thriller genre, some of the more well known ones being in the sixties when the 'spy-thriller' was created with the Bond Films being made. This franchise was the start of the 'spy-thriller' genre and many other film makers take this as inspiration.
