Research into ThrillersThrillers are a relatively profitable genre with the 2nd highest grossing film of all time (Titanic) being a thriller making $2,185,372,302 as of 2012. and the average thriller makes $27,621,631 at the box office.Avatar is the highest grossing film world wide with earnings around $2,782,275,172 which is only a mere $600,000,000 more than Titanic however both where directed by James Cameron.Successful thrillers are all rated PG-13 as it is the widest audience with disposable income however some thrillers such as Se7en and Red Dragon are both very successful and a rated R.

Genre profitsComedy is the most profitable genre at the box office making $44,792,158,044 from 1,751 films which means that on average a comedy film makes $25,580,901 at the box office.Comparing this with thrillers that are the 5th most successful genre making a combined total of $15,495,734,985 from only 561 films, this however means that on average a thriller makes $27,621,631 which means that thrillers are on average, more profitable than comedy and there are less films meaning a larger market.

The most profitable studio distributer for films is Walt Disney with The Six Sense making $293,506,292 at the box office placing it 2nd behind Titanic and Signs which made $227,965,690 at the box office which places it 5th overall.
