Do you need help or advice? Over the last attend our pro bono rota, the local councils, and to all of the other individuals and organisations who have shown their gratitude and generosity by suppoyear Citizens Advice Surrey Heath has helped over 3,000 local people and families who made 14,000 enquiries. Here are a few examples: Homelessness Prevention - A disabled single mother had rent arrears of over £2000. Possession proceedings had begun and she and her son were in danger of being evicted and becoming homeless. She had large debts including a water bill for over £4000 and bailiffs had been to her house to list goods for removal. Action/Outcome: We helped her appeal her Employment Support Allowance and got it reinstated. We also helped her to apply for Personal Independence Payment. This meant she could now afford her rent and other living expenses. We also managed to have all of her debts written off. Disability Benefits - Client aged 75, had ill health and lived alone in a rented house. He was struggling financially; with debts owed to his landlord, his bank and HMRC. His rent arrears were also putting his tenancy at risk. He was paying out so much money to try and clear these debts that he couldn’t afford food. Action/Outcome: We re-negotiated the amounts he was paying towards his debts to make them more affordable for him. We helped him to claim Attendance Allowance which gave him more money and allowed him to pay for his daily needs. This also gave him access to other benefits such as a mobility scooter to give him more independence. Benefits - A couple needed help with an ESA appeal, they also revealed their worry that one partner had been directed to attend a work programme, which would mean he would have to leave his ill partner home alone. They received ESA basic allowance while awaiting appeal hearing and one of them received Disability Living Allowance. Action/Outcome: Advised that client should apply for Carers Premium to exempt him

from work programme and this has increased their weekly income with the premium backdated for 3 months. They continue to wait for their ESA appeal hearing but client is now able to provide his partner with the care and support she needs. Housing - Man, aged 56 was released from prison with £46, nowhere to live and no family connections, following 36 years in prison, the latter term was 15 years. He was unable to sign on for Job Seekers Allowance, as he had nowhere to live. Action/Outcome: CAB liaised with the prison and SHBC, who provided him with emergency accommodation, which allowed him to sign on, locally. Client had said he would commit a crime to return to prison if he couldn’t get housed, he was so distressed. Here is some feedback we received from one of our clients: ‘Please accept this heartfelt thank-you……you were sensitive to my problem and followed up my interview with a full explanation by letter, the next day……a first class service from a first class organization from people, who care. Bless you all it is appreciated more than words can express.’ A big thank you! To our 66 volunteers and to all of our donors including Frimley Fuel Allotments, Our Lady Queen of Heaven church, the local solicitors who attend our pro bono rota, the local councils, and to all of the other individuals and organisations who have shown their gratitude and generosity by supporting our service.

Why is it so important to look

aBer our core? Wouldn’t it be great if we all had a flat

stomach or even a six pack? Maybe for most of us

that’s aiming too high. However at BeFiiT with Sarah

and Carol we encourage you to get your abdominal/

core muscles in shape as your core is in fact your

body’s powerhouse. It helps you do everything from

moving to supporng your inner organs and central

nervous system – simple everyday things like liSing a

toddler, puTng groceries away, prevenng a sore

back and having good posture all are easier with a

strong core

Reasons to keep your core strong:

1. Help prevent injuries Building a strong core will take more than a few ab-

dominal crunches!

There are two aspects to having a strong core:

• Building core stability in the deep

internal muscles close to the spine

• Build core strength

Start by building core stability and get those deep

muscles working first and then work on the core

strength. Having a strong core will help improve your

overall fitness and make you less prone to injury. Most

movement of our body starts from the centre and

moves out. Having a rock solid centre will make your

stronger and movements pain free.

A simple but effecve exercise for building core stabil-

ity is to draw in the abdominal muscles (think about

your belly buVon pulling away from your pantline),

hold for five breaths, and then relax. Repeat 10 mes.

Do this 10 mes a day.

Women AND Men should also do pelvic floor exercis-

es! —drawing in the pelvic floor —to strength the

lower end of your core (with the added bonus of

beVer bladder control).

2. Protect your inner organs and central

nervous system Staying healthy also means protecng all that happens

inside the body .In your core is not only where your

organs and central nervous system do their work it’s

also where your body’s largest (and most important)

veins and arteries are based.

Keeping strong core muscles will help ensure every-

thing stays protected as you move through your day.

For example your spinal cord – is really important and

if you have pressure on it because it isn’t supported

well by your core muscles then it will affect your

movements which could cause pain.

3. Banish back pain Back pain is a common side effect of a weak core.

Building core strength helps balance to the front and

the back of your body.

SiTng at a desk all day doesn’t help. Be aware of how

you sit. Many people can sit for a long me with a

lted pelvis and an arched back rather than siTng

‘Tall’ ie siTng on the boney part of the boVom

Work your core by siTng on a stability ball rather than

a chair – this will help your abs to stay engaged

4. Get a strong, confident posture If you have a strong core you will carry yourself with

confidence and a tall upright posture will improve

core strength.

So how do we develop core stability and strength?

Include-

The plank - half or full –on your elbows or knees –

head in line with the spine and trunk flat. Or full

plank – extend legs and rest on your elbows and

toes. Pull tummy in hold very ght inially for 10

seconds, breathing normally. Release. Then build

up the me and frequency gradually unl you can

achieve a minute.

Superman – on hands and knees, hands under shoul-

ders and knees under hips. Pull tummy in to sup-

port back and straighten right leg out and liS off

floor liSing leS arm out in line with ear at same

me. Hold for 10 seconds, find balance and lower.

Change sides and repeat. Build up to 3-4 sets of

10 reps (5 each side)

Bridge - Lie on your back with your hands by your

sides, your knees bent and feet flat on the floor.

Make sure your feet are under your knees. Tight-

en your abdominal and buVock muscles. Raise

your hips up to create a straight line from your

knees to shoulders. Squeeze your core and try to

pull your belly buVon back toward your spine. If

your hips sag or drop, lower yourself back on the

floor.

Also include squats, oblique twists, press-ups, reverse

crunches and back extension. Use bender balls,

Resistance Bands, Mini Bands & Weights– all of

which we use in our classes or alternavely book

onto one of our Fitness Pilates courses!

Life these days is hectic and busy for

many people. This results in us rushing

around like maniacs most of the time. We

also sit long hours at the computer

screen, faces taut with tension, jaws

clenched & brows furrowed, as we try to

cram even more into our busy schedules.

This can create havoc with our

appearance resulting in lacklustre skin,

and affecting our health in a negative

way. Stress & the lack of good nutrition,

fresh air & exercise, together with

insufficient water and sleep, all takes

their toll on our skin, with frown lines,

double chins & wrinkles the ageing result.

A facial massage is a treatment that we

may consider as a way to improve our

physical appearance. What if we didn’t

only treat the way we look, but also

addressed the emotions, stress and

disharmony experienced in our bodies and

expressed through our face?

Our face can reveal a lot of what is going

on for us and how we are living. For

example dark circles under the eyes,

showing lack of sleep or vitality, lines on

the brow indicating worry, & tightness or

clenching of our jaw showing frustration

or anger.

The Energetic facial Release is based

on the fact that we do store on our

face what we emotionally feel.

What is an Energetic Facial Release

Treatment?

An energetic facial release treatment is a

gentle face massage, and uses gentle

touch and massage techniques to

re-connect with our faces and release

these stored emotions. It is a very gentle

and unimposing massage and works

beautifully in combination with massage,

such as hands & arms or as a treatment

on its own. These sessions are deeply

nurturing and healing, not only for the

face but for the whole body, leaving us

feeling lighter and more in tune with

ourselves. A bonus is that lines and

wrinkles are softened and skin appears

plumped up and glowing with a more

radiant complexion.

Where does it come from?

An Energetic Facial Release is an ancient

practise that dates back to ancient Egypt.

At that time only women’s faces could be

touched. Energetic Facial release was

then devised as a method of healing to

restore some form of healing for women

to have.

The Energetic Facial Release is part of

Sacred Esoteric Healing from Universal

Medicine www.universalmedicine.net

Esoteric means a simple connection with

the Inner-most, bringing harmony to the

body on an energetic level.
