Whether it is a special date or a family reunion or in this case Car- dinal football. The Cardinals have had a season we all can remember. All six of the teams that beat the Cardinals are now in the playoffs. For over fourteen years that have passed by we have made it to playoffs and even state but this year will be the first time Crete will not be in playoffs. The football team had to overcome some bat- tles out on the field but they also have gained to play as a team. Some football players say their main goal is to make it to districts others would like to accomplish their goal to thrive better. The Beatrice game was the game before home- coming and was honestly a close game we lost 13 to 14. A close game we all can say was a devastating night. Although some players eneded on a sad note, the Cardinals played a really great season to begin with. Three Runners Run to State The cross country team trained hard all summer and season which seemed to have payed off at dis- tricts. “Being that it was our last time competing as a team, I couldn’t be prouder,” head coach Drew Rische said re- garding districts on October 12. The boys team placed 4th at the meet and was only six points away from making it to state. “We ran better times but we came up short,” Rische said. With hard work, dedica- tion, and determination, a few runners managed to qualify for state. Returning to state will be Senior Logan Sieck. This will mark Sieck’s third year attending the state cross country meet. “It was hard work, the team and I have been prepar- ing all season for the district meet with some of us putting over 500 miles of training hoping to advance to state and it may not have hap- pened for all of us but we will all keep preparing ourselves for next year,” Sophomore Casey Vigor said. Vigor, aslo qualifed for sate along with teammates Sieck and Junior Jordan Walker. “Qualifying for state is ex- citing and I am ready to just get out there and compete,” Viger said. Vigor placed 7th and Walker placed 6th both with a time of 17:55. “It is always a privilege to make it to state,” Sieck said. The top 15 at the meet will medal. Cardinals Go Home Empty Handed
