EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP -
RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY
MOMENTS "You were created on purpose for a purpose."
That may sound like pop psychology gibberish
to you at first, but it is the truth. Modern studies
into strengths and gifts, along with constantly
new understandings of the complex wonder of
DNA, lead us to conclude that each human
being is truly unique. You hold within you a
unique set of gifts that cannot be duplicated in
the same way by another. What your parents
may have told you about snowflakes growing
up holds true for people too: No two are exactly
alike.
However, we often live our lives in such a way
that gives testimony to a falsity, that is, any-
body can do just about any job. Positions in the
workforce and in our parishes are filled with
people who only fulfill one requirement for the
job: they have warm bodies. (Meaning, they are
not dead.) There are two realities that create
this problem. First, we ask people to do things
they are not equipped to do. We tell them to
work harder at it and eventually they will get it.
But I can guarantee that no matter how hard I
try, I will not be able to lead an NBA team to a
title. Sounds ludicrous on that level. But I as-
sure you, it is no more ludicrous than asking
someone that doesn't really like children to
teach elementary catechesis. Second, we our-
selves sometimes believe that we have nothing
special to offer. We go through life having no
idea what our gifts are and how to give of them.
We take dead-end jobs and rarely share our-
selves with the community. But you may just
be the answer to a business or parish problem
that, to some, seems unsolvable.
On this Labor Day weekend, thank God for
the gifts you have received. Use them to elevate
your labor, both in the workplace and in the
parish. If you don't know how, there is help out
there. You are not like everybody else. God has
given you a purpose.
Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS
WHY DO WE DO THAT? -
CATHOLIC TRADITIONS EXPLAINED
Question: On Labor Day, we honor the worker and the role of labor
in the social and economic development of our country. What does
the Church say about labor?
Labor has been the cornerstone of the social justice teaching of the
Church. At the very beginning of the labor movement, Pope Leo XIII
wrote an encyclical letter called "Rerum Novarum," that for many
years was seen as a masterpiece of work, bringing traditional Catholic
teaching to the new problems that the Industrial Revolution brought
to the workplace. In fact, this document was so significant that later
popes issued encyclicals on its anniversary: Pope Pius XI wrote
"Quadragesimo Anno" and St. John XXIII, "Mater et Magistra." Paul
VI issued "Octagesima Adveniens," and St. John Paul II wrote
"Laborem Exercens" and "Centesimus Annus." More recently, Bene-
dict XVI added his voice with "Caritas in Veritate" in 2009, while
Pope Francis has made the dignity of the worker a hallmark of his
pontificate. Throughout these writings the teaching of the Church re-
mains consistent concerning the dignity of workers, the right to a fair
wage, the importance of housing, and the duty to take care of those
who are in need. In 1967, Pope Paul VI wrote in "Populorum
Progressio" that work "is something willed and approved by God...
God gave man intelligence, sensitivity and the power of thought--
tools with which to finish and perfect the work He began. Every
worker is, to some extent, a creator--be he artist, craftsman, execu-
tive, laborer or farmer" (#27).

LIVE THE LITURGY -
INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK Understanding God's ways and intentions is very
difficult. We even have difficulty grasping the
complexities of human existence! We need God's
wisdom and the guidance of the Holy Spirit in order
to walk straight on the path of discipleship. Even as
we seek God's wisdom and guidance, are we really
prepared to pay the possible price of discipleship?
Making a choice to follow the Lord requires much
preparation and assessment.
Any one wishing to join in helping make items for the bazaar we will
have small groups to work together, what a wonderful way to enjoy each
others ideas, and get to know more of our parishioners. If interested in
joining in call either Jeanette Wolff 715-253-2931,
or Marge Mech 715-253-2063.
Bazaar date is Oct. 15. Excepting donations and help.
Next CCW Meeting is:
