The 3 basis of Hindu Social System
What is Purshatha
????
There are three important organizations which are considered as the basis of Hindu ethics of social life
1.Purusharthas
2.Varna System
3.Asharama Dharma
MEANING
The word implies “attainment” or ‘life purpose”
They are the guiding principles of life of Hindus at all staged of their development.
It governs the Hindu views and attitudes towards life.
Aim is to attain four noble ends .
They are as follows :
PURUSHARTHA
DHARMA
KAMA
ARTHA
MOKSHA
DHARMA The supreme principle of life
It implies “attainment” or “life purpose”
It hold together the whole universe
Essential for the stability
of the society
ARTHA
It means wealth and money or material prosperity.
It also stand for all the
requisites of material welfare.
Economic stability is the basis
of social stability , individual
advancement and spiritual
attainment.
KAMA It is pleasure , literary means desire , love
etc.
Hence appreciation of music , dance , poetry ,
and all other arts are part of Kama.
It help to propagation of
species.
Kama also refers to the
emotional being of man,
his feelings and desires.
moksha
It means liberation, salvations or release from the cycle of birth and death.
It is understanding the
purpose of existence.
Mukthi or emancipation is
nothing but the realization of
one with god.
Varna system
Varna system is not a social arrangement, rather it is a
statement of
how any society
is arranged.
Varna system
The four classes of Varna
1. Brahmin
2. Kshatriyas
3. Vaishya
4. Shudra
brahmin
These are the people from the head/mouth of the god. They are sinless and created for the purpose of performing sacrifices.
The Brahmana
posses goodness, truth
or light.
kshatriyas They are born out of the arms of the
purusha sukta.
Represents heroism, courage,
strength etc.
They constituted warrior
class.
vaishyas
Emerged out of the thighs of the purusha.
Represent the trading and commercial class.
shudras
Borned out of the feet of the purusha.
Pursued the task of serving the other three varnas.
Ashrama darma
It denotes the Hindu scheme of life according to which different stages in the life of an individual are well ordered.
Meaning of the word
Literary denote a halting or resting place.
It comes from the Sanskrit root(srama).
There are four arsharamas
Ashrama darma
Brahmacharyashrama
Grihasthahsrama
Vanaprasthashrama
Sanyasashrama
bharamacharyashrama The first stage of ashrama.
Meant for acquiring knowledge, developing discipline and molding character.
This stage starts with the “upanayanam”
grihasthahsrama
The second stage of arshrama.
It is entered at marriage.
Is ready to take up the duties and responsibilities of household life.
vanaprasthashrama
After discharging all the duties and obligations as householder, the individual enter to this stage.
At this stage , the individual dedicate himself to a life of spiritual contemplation.
He indulged in the life of worship,
silence and mediation.
sanyasashrama It is the last stage in the life of a person
This is the time for the renounciation.
The primary goal of this stage is to attain “moksha”
The sanyashi gives up all the bondages and attachment of this world.
