Merlin Class – Wear it Wild

The children undertook some endangered animal art with the idea of the white animal outline

suggesting that if we don’t do something then the animal will soon disappear from its landscape

forever. In the afternoon they used modelling dough to design their own animal that would fit

somewhere in the school grounds - having to decide its eating habits, protection against predators,

how it hunts, where it lives and how it’s adapted etc. They were very creative! The class have also

decided to adopt an Amur Tiger this year.

New School Councillors

The following children have been elected to represent their class on the School Council. The

School Council meet with me fortnightly to discuss successes, needs, problems and responsibilities

after they have had a class meeting to raise any concerns they have. We always encourage children

and classes to sort out their own problems, but those that need further support are escalated to

the School Council and if necessary, Governors. As always the vast majority of things discussed

are the successes we have in school.

Christmas Performances

We are planning to have Christmas performances this year for all year groups. The children enjoy

rehearsing and performing and this is an important and valuable part of our formal curriculum

(music, drama) as well as our informal teaching (working together, building confidence, performing).

Our hope is to be able to invite parents into school to watch the performances; however, this very

much depends on the COVID situation at the time. Please be assured that if circumstances

dictate that we are unable to have a live audience we may share with you virtually or with photo’s

depending on which we deem to be the most appropriate at the time.

We are constantly monitoring the situation and as always, thank you for your patience and

understanding.

Children in Need, Friday 19 November

This year, Children in Need is Friday 19 November. Children are encouraged to come to school

wearing their pyjamas, a onesie or ‘something different’ in return for a donation. Donations can be

made via our Just Giving page, www.justgiving.com/Thorney-Island-School We are requesting that

children do not bring money into school.

International Week

Football Match - Thorney v Westbourne

The team played extremely well considering

this was their first ever game playing

together. The children from Westbourne

were all from Year 6 and towered over the

Thorney players. Mr Harms was very

impressed with the teams’ resilience and

enthusiasm. We have quite a young team on

which to build and Mr Harms is keen to play

more games against other locality schools.

I have now hung up my Head Coach boots

and am looking forward to watching more games form the side-lines! I’m not sure if it will be any

less stressful, especially when you see Alex Ferguson in the stands at Old Trafford!

Roadworks at Thorney Island Gate Post

From Monday 29 November work will commence to Tarmac the road between the barriers and the

first speed bump, plus the installation of bollards to the front of the kiosk. This work should take

5 days depending on circumstances and conditions.

All families and visitors to Thorney Island are requested to be patient and are advised to allow

extra time to get on to the Island whilst these works are undertaken.
