In middle school, our students and their families will be accessing
all forms of grading and assessment and report cards through our
online PowerSchool Parent Portal.
All parents/guardians receive their Parent Portal Username and
Password upon registration. It is the same Username and
Password used to access Report Cards from our Elementary
Schools.
Parent Portal
www.middletownk12.org
Both parents and students can use parent portal in middle school.
Students sign in with their student username and password.
Students will not be able to access sibling information.
Both parents and students can get the free PowerSchool Mobile App.
Towards the end of August, the district will open up
Parent Portal for families to view schedules.
Grading Scale All grades will be reported in percentages from 0-100%. We use percent grades for all
assessments and for Report Cards. (Letter grades are only provided here as a point of
reference.)

GradingEach teacher creates a grading system for his or her class.
Example: 10% Participation 20% Classwork/Projects 20% Homework
20% Quizzes30% Tests
After teachers collect homework, grade assignments, quizzes, tests, projects, etc. they enter scores into their PowerSchool Gradebook. You can then access those grades through the Parent Portal.
Teachers try to post grades as soon as possible. Most grades are available online within 5 days of assignment completion.
All busing information can be accessed through the VersaTrans

We suggest that students streamline their organizational materials/binders as much as possible. Below are a few ideas….nothing specific is required! Most of our classes utilize online materials, but students will need some space to store papers and take notes. A large binder seems to work best to help keep our students organized.
Students can separate subjects with page dividers/folders, and use loose-leaf paper for notes, etc..
Also, it’s helpful to store pens, pencils, and highlighters, etc. in a zippered pencil case inside of the binder.
Most students also find it easiest to store their clothes for Physical Education class in a reusable string backpack. Students will not dress for PE on the first day of school.
REMEMBER TO LABEL
EVERYTHING!!!
Tonight’s 5th Grade Parent Information Night.
Lockers will not be assigned until the first day of
school.
5th Grade students will visit Thompson at
the end of May to tour the building and hear
about what Thompson has to offer directly
from our students.
In August, there will be a 6th Grade
Orientation for students and parents.
Students will receive a Chromebook, a Charger, and a Carrying Case on the first day of school. Students are responsible for bringing their charged Chromebook to school each day.
Students will use Google Classroom and Google apps to record all homework assignments and stay organized. 6th Grade Teachers and the Study Skills course will teach these management tools.
Students will be assigned a locker on the first day of school. The lockers measure 12” wide by 57” tall by 10” deep, (but the opening is only 9” wide). The locks are built into the lockers and the combinations are 3 numbers.
Thompson Middle SchoolEnjoy your Spring!
