First Reading : Isaiah 55.1-5 The LORD says this: Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you that have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labour for that which does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Incline your ear, and come to me; listen, so that you may live. I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David. See, I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples. See, you shall call nations that you do not know, and nations that do not know you shall run to you, because of the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you.
This is the Word of the Lord. All Thanks be to God.
The Collects, Post Communion Prayer, Readings and Music for the 8.00am, 9.00am, 11.45am and 6.00pm services
The Collect for The Seventh Sunday after Trinity Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: graft in our hearts the love of your name, increase in us true religion, nourish us with all goodness, and of your great mercy keep us in the same; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
Post Communion for The Seventh Sunday after Trinity Lord God, whose Son is the true vine and the source of life, ever giving himself that the world may live: may we so receive within ourselves the power of his death and passion that, in his saving cup, we may share his glory and be made perfect in his love; for he is alive and reigns, now and for ever.
Psalm 145.8-9, 14-21 8. The Lord is gracious, and merciful * long-suffering, and of great goodness. 9. The Lord is loving unto every man* and his mercy is over all his works. 14. The Lord upholdeth all such as fall * and lifteth up all those that are down. 15. The eyes of all wait upon thee, O Lord * and thou givest them their meat in due season. 16. Thou openest thine hand * and fillest all things living with plenteousness.

Second Reading: Romans 9.1-5 I am speaking the truth in Christ – I am not lying; my conscience confirms it by the Holy Spirit – I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my own people, my kindred according to the flesh. They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises; to them belong the patriarchs, and from them, according to the flesh, comes the Messiah, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
This is the Word of the Lord. All Thanks be to God.
Gospel Reading: Matthew 14.13-21 When Jesus heard that Herod had beheaded John the Baptist, he withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them and cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, ‘This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves.’ Jesus said to them, ‘They need not go away; you give them something to eat.’ They replied, ‘We have nothing here but five loaves and two fish.’ And he said, ‘Bring them here to me.’ Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And all ate and were filled; and they took up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
This is the Gospel of the Lord. All Praise to you, O Christ.
17. The Lord is righteous in all his ways * and holy in all his works. 18. The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him * yea, all such as call upon him faithfully. 19. He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him * he also will hear their cry, and will help them. 20. The Lord preserveth all them that love him * but scattereth abroad all the ungodly. 21. My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord * and let all flesh give thanks unto his holy Name for ever and ever. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son * and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be * world without end. Amen.

Gradual Hymn: Break thou the bread of life (AM 378)
1. Break thou the bread of life, dear Lord, to me, as thou didst break the loaves beside the sea: beyond the sacred page I seek thee, Lord; My spirit pants for thee, O living Word! 2. Thou art the bread of life, O Lord, to me, thy holy word the truth that saveth me. Give me to eat and live with thee above; teach me to love thy truth, for thou art love. Tune: Lathbury by William Fiske Sherwin (1826-1888) Words: vv. 1, 4 Mary Artemisia Lathbury (1814-1913); vv. 2, 3 Alexander Groves (1842-1909)
3. O send thy Spirit, Lord, now unto me, that he may touch my eyes, and make me see: show me the truth concealed within thy word, and in thy book revealed I see thee, Lord. 4. Bless thou the truth, dear Lord, to me, to me, as thou didst bless the bread by Galilee: then shall all bondage cease, all fetters fall, and I shall find my peace, my all in all!
Anthem: Panis angelicus (Ernest Hui) Panis angelicus Fit panis hominum; Dat panis coelicus Figuris terminum: O res mirabilis! Manducat Dominum Pauper, servus et humilis. Te trina Deitas, Unaque poscimus, Sic nos tu visita, Sicut te colimus; Per tuas semitas Duc nos quo tendimus Ad lucem quam inhabitas. Amen. St Thomas Aquinas
The bread of the angels becomes the bread of man; the bread of heaven is given a bounded form. O wondrous thing! The poor, the slave and the humble man feed on their lord. Of you, threefold and one God, we ask: Come to visit us as we worship you; lead us on your paths to where we want to go: to the light in which you dwell. Amen.

Fresh expressions: Creative/experimental worship Every second Sunday of the month at 6.00pm there will be a new worship service at St John's. This 'Fresh expression' will vary from month to month.
