Monday, February 24 Scholarships Application Is Now Online! Need Money for College? Rhythms Literary Club – 11:25 a.m., Elston 420. Rhythms is SCCC’s student-run literary club. The group’s primary function is to produce an annual magazine of literature (short stories, plays, poems, songs, essays, etc.) and artwork (drawings, photographs, etc.), created by

SCCC students, faculty and staff. The group also sponsors coffee-houses, readings, and other literary events. All students are welcome.

Tuesday, February 25 University at Albany Advisor in Residence – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Elston 223. The University at Albany will have an advisor in residence. If you would like to participate, it is best to sign up for an appointment on the Transfer Bulletin Board outside of Elston 223. You are welcome to just drop by if you don’t get a chance to sign up. Wednesday, February 26 Black History Month Soul Food Luncheon – 11 a.m., Van Curler Room. Tickets: $18 - The School of Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism hosts this special luncheon with mouth-watering dishes including oven roasted “fried” chicken, deep fried catfish, shrimp and grits, macaroni and cheese, collard greens and peach cobbler. During the luncheon, Carla Page will give a solo performance of “The Negro National Anthem,” composed and written by James Weldon Johnson, Hamilton Hill Arts Center Steel Drummers will perform, Angelica Morris (Schenectady County Human Rights Commission) and Marion Porterfield (Schenectady County Councilwoman) will give inspirational words of expression. Mindset! – 11:30 a.m., Elston 328. A talk with Dan McCrea, aimed at helping students get into a successful frame of mind.

Student Volunteer Organization Weekly Meeting – 11:20 a.m., Elston 236. The goal of the Student Volunteer Organization (SVO) is to connect the students with the community for the purpose of learning about the community and serving the needs of the people. All students welcomed.

Men’s and Women’s Bowling Playoffs – NJCAA National Championships in Buffalo. The Royals men are 26-4 and women 14-4, and both have a great chance at doing well in the tournament finals. Go Royals!

Friday, February 28 Women’s Basketball Playoffs – 7 p.m., Onondaga Community College (Syracuse). The Lady Royals are 18-7 and get the No. 4 seed in this championship tournament, first facing off against No. 5 HVCC. Winning teams continue to play throughout the weekend. Again, Go Royals!

Black History Month Finale – 7 p.m., Taylor Auditorium. Performances from the Capital Region’s finest choirs, groups, soloists, praise dancers, mimes, drill team, steppers and gospel rappers. Free.

Ian Connacher presents “Addicted to Plastic” – “Addicted to Plastic” is a feature-length documentary about solutions to plastic pollution. The film details plastic’s path over the last

100 years and provides a wealth of expert interviews on practical and cutting-edge solutions to recycling, toxicity and biodegradability. These solutions - which include plastic made from

plants - will provide viewers with a hopeful perspective about our future with plastics. Screening followed by discussion and Q and A with filmmaker Ian Connacher. Catch this event
