Lawsuit against San Diego
From The San Diego Reader, by Dorian Hargrove, June 7, 2017
In March of 2017, Jon Warshawsky sued the City of San Diego for improper design of the center median

According to public documents obtained by the Reader, the median was the cause of at least one other
accident prior to the collision and the subject of numerous complaints — one of which came from the
San Diego Police Department — for poor visibility in months preceding the death of Walzer.

3 February 2018 to 27 January 2019, The Porsche Effect
At the Petersen Automotive Museum
The Petersen Automotive Museum is developing an exhibit called The Porsche Effect that will be on view
from February 3, 2018 to January 27, 2019. We have been working alongside Porsche Cars North
America and have recently connected with PCA.
PCA and the larger extended family of Porsche owners and enthusiasts will be explored in the exhibit’s
Extended Family section which will include a Club Coupe and artifacts from the PCA archive. We were
hoping that you could help us learn more about Zone 8’s history and determine additional ways that we
can collaborate with the local Porsche community.
The Petersen is Looking for the Following Cars for Exhibit
We would greatly appreciate your help locating potential lenders:
1974/75 930 Turbo (supplemental) 1968/69 Targa 2015 991GTS Club Coupe 1979-82 930 Turbo
A few more details that might be useful to potential lenders:
Exhibit installation begins January 15th. Vehicles will be loaded into the exhibit close to this date. Exhibit logistics can be discussed on a case by case basis.
Potential Period of Loan for International Vehicles: December 1, 2017- January 31, 2019 Potential Period of Loan for U.S. based Vehicles: January 1, 2018-January 31, 2019 A formal loan agreement will be developed for each car loaned to the exhibit. Unless otherwise agreed upon by the Lender and the Petersen, the Petersen will pay for the
vehicle’s transport costs. Both parties must agree to the method of transport, both for delivery and return to the Lender.
These loans can be insured under the Petersen’s Fine Arts, all-risk policy, which provides wall-to-wall coverage, subject to the usual exclusions, for the period of the loan, unless the Lender prefers to maintain its own insurance policy on the loan object(s). If the lender elects to provide their own insurance, the Petersen must be supplied with a certificate of insurance.
Each vehicle will be accompanied by a placard that discusses its significance within the exhibit. It will also include recognition of the Lender.

Truffle Prices Double to $3,200 a Pound
Italy’s hot summer and dry fall could see supplies in some regions reduced by 90 percent.
From Bloomberg by Sara Clemence, October 27, 2017, 12:01 PM PDT Updated on October 30, 2017, 8:38 AM PDT
Photographer: Herbert Lehmann/StockFood
During a bumper year for Italian white truffles, one of fine dining’s most precious (read: expensive)
ingredients, San Francisco chef Michael Tusk can get practically profligate with the aromatic
mushrooms. He’ll even use them to top pizza.
“This is probably not a year for that,” says the chef and co-owner of Cotogna and the three-Michelin-
starred Quince.
“Prices have doubled,” says Vittorio Giordano, vice president of Urbani Truffles, a major importer.
Each fall, truffle aficionados around the globe pay dearly to have the lumpen tubers shaved atop risotto,
scattered on pasta, and draped onto sushi. But white truffles are finicky. Resistant to farming and highly
perishable, they grow wild in forests, are hand-hunted by men with trained dogs or pigs, and are

available fresh only from September into December. In 2016, there was an abundance of truffles, and
prices plunged, but a hot summer followed by a dry fall this year have made for a dramatically smaller
harvest this season.
Fortunato Nicotra, executive chef at New York’s Felidia, came by “great truffles” at around $1,300 a
pound in 2016, he told Bloomberg. This year, he is paying $2,800 to $3,200 a pound for golf ball-sized
tubers. (“I can’t go with a little chickpea to shave in the dining room,” he says of the smaller, less-
expensive pickings.) Larger sizes are rarer, and anything weightier than 40 grams can cost several
hundred dollars more per pound, he says.
“Let’s say it is a big problem,” Nicotra says. “I cannot double my prices. But I cannot be without truffles.”
Foodies who like to dose their dishes with truffle oils and butters needn’t worry—“Prices in preserved
products don’t fluctuate because they are made with frozen fresh truffles, harvested the season prior,”
says Federico Balestra, CEO of importer Sabatino Tartufi. But diners may see slightly higher prices for the
fresh, musky shavings on menus. Nicotra says he may have to increase the price of truffle dishes by $10;
at the moment Felidia charges a $75 supplement for a dose of shavings.
Instead, to allow diners the pleasure of eating tuber magnatum (often translated as “noble tuber”)
restaurants will be eating much of the cost increase, which will cut into already slim margins. On
average, food makes up around 28 percent of the price of a dish, Nicotra says. When you’re dealing with
truffles, the food cost rises to 33 percent—this year, more.
Beyond simply reducing the number of white truffle offerings, or cutting them entirely, some
restaurants will respond by serving up recipes whose base ingredients not only cost less, but also allow
for a lighter hand with the truffles.
Truffle hunters interviewed in the Telegraph say that in some regions of Italy, supplies could be reduced
by 90 percent.
Now, Nicotra is looking to Croatia as a potential source. “They taste slightly different—the soil, the trees,
everything is important for the truffle,” he says. “I have to say, they are pretty good, though.”

Description:
This recall involves two styles of Kidde fire extinguishers: plastic handle fire extinguishers and push-
button Pindicator fire extinguishers.
Plastic handle fire extinguishers: The recall involves 134 models of Kidde fire extinguishers
manufactured between January 1, 1973 and August 15, 2017, including models that were previously
recalled in March 2009 and February 2015. The extinguishers were sold in red, white and silver, and are
either ABC- or BC-rated. The model number is printed on the fire extinguisher label. For units produced

near the bottom. Digits five through nine represent the day and year of manufacture in DDDYY format.
Date codes for recalled models manufactured from January 2, 2012 through August 15, 2017 are 00212
through 22717. For units produced before 2007, a date code is not printed on the fire extinguisher.
Push-button Pindicator fire extinguishers: The recall involves eight models of Kidde Pindicator fire
extinguishers manufactured between August 11, 1995 and September 22, 2017. The no-gauge push-
button extinguishers were sold in red and white, and with a red or black nozzle. These models were sold
primarily for kitchen and personal watercraft applications.

Amelia Island Concours d’Élégance Announces New Staff Member & Anti-
Drone Security Enforcement Officer
From Amelia Island Concours d’Élégance e-Mail, 6 November 2017
The Amelia Island Concours d’Élégance is honored to announce the addition of Aerial Security Officer
Col. Daniel Sexton Gurney Eagle, A.A.P. (Apex Aerial Predator), D.F.A. (Death From Above) to the Amelia
Concours permanent staff.
In addition to serving at our Mercury Road headquarters in Jacksonville, Col. Eagle will maintain branch
satellite drone control offices at the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island and the nearby Fernandina Beach Airport.
Col. Eagle is a semi-retired member of the Florida Air National Guard based at Jacksonville International
Airport where he led the U.S. Air Force’s extraordinarily successful anti-rodent, pig and drone control
sentry program.
“That’s the polite way of saying it,” said Bill Warner, founder and Chairman of the Amelia Island
Concours d’Elegance. “The Colonel, or ‘Sir’ as we call him here at Amelia Concours HQ, has assured us
that there will be no drones operating above ‘The Amelia’, Cars and Coffee at the Concours, the Porsche

Driving Experience or any other activity during Amelia Concours Weekend. Period. No exceptions. No
excuses.”
Col. Eagle, in addition to being a lifetime classic car enthusiast -- “Especially Duesenbergs,” said Warner,
“That’s the Colonel’s great uncle Augie on the Duesenberg emblem ,” -- is an avid hunter and fisherman.
Colonel Gurney decided to remain in Florida after his retirement. “With a resume and skills like Col.
Eagle’s one can do pretty much whatever one wants, wherever he wants, whenever he wants and
however he wants,” Warner added.
About The Amelia Island Concours d’Élégance
Now in its third decade, the Amelia Island Concours d’Élégance is among the top automotive events in
the world. Always held the second full weekend in March, “The Amelia” draws over 250 rare vehicles
from collections around the world to The Golf Club of Amelia Island and The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island
for a celebration of the automobile like no other. Since 1996, the show’s Foundation has donated over
$3.0 million to Community Hospice & Palliative Care, Spina Bifida of Jacksonville, The Navy Marine Corps
Relief Society, Shop with Cops, and other deserving charities. In 2013 and 2016 the Amelia Island
Concours d’Élégance won Octane Magazine’s EFG International Historic Motoring Event of the Year
award. The 23rd annual Amelia Island Concours d’Élégance is scheduled for March 9-11, 2018. For more
