O.I.C Was first Booker T.

Washington High School. Booker T. closed around the 1970s.

It is located at 402 E. Virginia St.

This place matters to me because my aunt, Eunice Dunn, went there and graduated in 1966.If it were not for this place she, as well as others, might not have had the opportunities they did to become the people they are today.

Booker T. Washington is now known as Opportunities Industrialization Center, or O.I.C.

This was the first Power Plant in Rocky Mount . It was closed once another Power Plant was opened.

It is located on 1701 Sunset Ave. This place matters to me

because it now houses Chico’s, which is one of my favorite restaurants.

It is now Chico’s and other office complexes.

Booker T. Theatre Booker T. Theatre was

established around 1926. It was later used for a church.

It is located at 130 E. Thomas St.

This place matters to me and is historical to my family because my grandmother and her mother used to go to this theatre to see movies just as we do today. Even though she didn’t always watch the movie she always enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

This building has not been used for a while but is now being remodeled and coming back as Booker T. Theatre.

Manhattan Theatre The Manhattan Theatre was

established in the 1930’s. In 1965, the Manhattan Theatre became Rocky Mount Deliverance Center, but is now being remade back to a theatre.

The Manhattan Theatre is located at 122 E. Thomas St.

This place is very important to me because when it was a theatre my great-grandmother went there to see King Kong. It is most important to me because it later became my church, Rocky Mount Deliverance Center, where my great-grandmother was the pastor.

They are rebuilding the Manhattan theatre to make it look like it once did. Our church moved to 1329 Dogwood Ave. in 2001.

Battle Park Battle Park was a place where

one of the many battles for the Civil War was fought.

It is located on Falls Rd. This place is important to me

because Confederate Soldiers and Union Soldiers fought for the slavery and equal rights. Every year they have reenactments of this war. It can be heard all over Rocky Mount (including at my church) and you can also go to see it.

Battle Park now serves as a series of things. It is a park, a trail, and also a memorial of all the people that died in the war.
