“Zoo Train” (ages 18 months – 3 years) Instructor: Mary Withington Date: Mon. – Fri., July 11 – 15 Time: 8:45 am – 9:45 am Cost: $113

Parent or caregiver participates with their child. Snack time will be included. Tuition includes these home materials: CD, book, animal shaped instrument, home activities poster.

Children love to go to the zoo! What excitement to see the many animals, hear their sounds, ride the train or tram around the park, and maybe take a ride on the bright carousel before picnicking on a summer day. A trip to the zoo is a classic family activity, offering young children a memorable and in-depth, multi-sensory experience.

Zoo Train! was written to capture these delightful experiences at the zoo, drawing on the movements, sights, and sounds of the zoo animals to inspire musical experiences and the beginnings of imaginary play. Each lesson features a concept theme, developed in the context of the animals you will meet that day. The lessons are designed to offer just the right balance of structure and spontaneity, of group play and individual exploration, and to offer the stability and gentle guidance needed to nurture creativity in the very young. “On the Road” (ages 3.5 – 6 yrs.) Instructor: Mary Withington Date: Mon. – Fri., July 11 – 15 Time: 10:15 am – 11:45 am Cost: $134

Parent or caregiver participates the last 30 minutes. Craft activity and snack time included. Tuition includes these home materials: CD, book, instrument, and home activities poster.

On the Road! was inspired by children’s love of family adventures and the lifelong memories they build. It re-creates the cozy delight of family travels: sing-ing rounds in the car, making up songs, harmonizing (or trying to), playing “I Spy.” Every lesson is packed with activities that reflect the excitement and energy of family travels: Finding shapes in the clouds to pass the time Roasting banana boats and s’mores, singing songs, and telling ghost stories by the campfire Exploring the woods and shoreline Doing puzzles, card games, and crafts on a rainy day Experiencing skinned knees and close encounters of the natural kind And, throughout it all, allowing each child to create his/her own private, magical world of imagination and play.

GREETERS NEEDED ON SUNDAY MORNINGS This welcoming ministry is looking for a few more volunteers to join those who are already a part of the Greeter Team on a rotation basis. While this ministry would not take up a lot of your time, you do make a big impact on our members and guests with your “hello, we’re so glad you are here!”.

Greeter’s are needed prior to our Sunday morning worship services at 8:30/11:00am and Children and Adult Bible Study Fellowship at 9:45am. This ministry is open to adult individuals or couples. If this is a ministry you feel you’d like to participate in please sign up on the Communication Card or email Vonne Lewis in the church office at [email protected] indicating your time preference.

Just a note of thanks to our Homebound Ministry

Team who put on a wonderful luncheon for our

homebound members and care givers that were able to

attend. It was a real blessing for all.

Thank you for the hard work you did, for the meals you prepare and

deliver each month to our homebound, for the flowers you bless

them with, and the time that you spend sitting and talking with them.

You will never truly understand how your time and attention

brighten up the lives of those who don’t get out as they use to, but

please know it is deeply appreciated.

Thank you,

Deborah Lockey

Summer’s here and our youth will be leaving soon for Summer Youth Conference at Caswell from June 27 thru July 2. Please be in prayer for the 16 youth and 3 chaperones who will be attending as we spend time together, play, worship and study EVERY – ONE, THING, DAY, WHERE: LIVING ON MISSION. Thanks to all who helped sponsor youth.

Our summer weekly gathering, PLUNGE happens on Wednesday evenings from 5-8:15pm at the pool and home of Mr. Joe Beam, 5235 Webb Court, MHC. Come in your swimsuit and bring a towel, dry clothes, your Bible, and friends. We plunge into the pool, food, and the

word of God. This summer our video-driven study by David Platt is called COUNTER/CULTURE. In July we will have PLUNGE on the 13th, 20th, and 27th. Our rising 7th graders are invited to come and be with us. Parents, we need you to take turns providing supper, so contact Miss Deb if willing.

SHACK ATTACK is July 31st! We’ll meet at the Morehead City Docks by the Jaycee Park at 1:30pm and head to Wade Shores for an afternoon of boating and tubing. Bring snacks. We’ll provided drinks. We need some boats and tubes, parents and friends, so let Miss Deb know if you are willing to go and help with that.

By the time you are reading my letter, VBS will be over. However, as I am writing this, everyone is finishing up their final touches getting ready for a wonderful VBS week! We already have 152 children pre-registered with more registrations coming in every day! We are picking up children at three daycares. The halls will be ringing with music, laughter, and learning next week! I wish that every member in our church could visit VBS to

witness this wonderful week! We have many different activities going on throughout the week with the purpose of those activities being to guide the children into a growing relationship with Jesus. Our workers have worked countless hours to prepare for this week. From their classroom decorations to their activities…they all are outdoing themselves.

Our theme this year is Deep Sea Discovery…….God is with Me Wherever I Go! The daily lessons are designed to bring children closer to God by experiencing His everlasting love and discovering what it means to us. The lessons will help the teachers take the children into a relationship with Jesus when we get out and go! Christ is inspiring them to a lifetime of service. At Deep Sea Discovery, children dive into God’s presence by delving deep into His Word to see how He has been with His people every step of the way. Every child will leave each day knowing “God is with me—wherever I go! HE KNOWS me, HE HEARS me, HE STRENGTHENS me, HE LOVES me, and HE SENDS me!”

Our Bible scripture is Genesis 28:15a. “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go!” What a wonderful verse for ALL of us to draw on when we feel alone!

Our mission outreach this year is Hope Mission. Our FBC bus will take each VBS Department (we have 12) to visit the mission, learn about what the mission does, and deliver can goods that have been brought from home. All of our offering collected during VBS will be given to Hope Mission. The children will learn that they can be missionaries right here in Carteret County. Our VBS IS making a difference in our community by CARING for others!

CHURCH MISSION OUTREACH FOR JUNE: Our church body will also be involved in our mission outreach by donating Dawn Dish Detergent and paper towels. Items may be put in the Welcome Center during the month of June. Our Mission Committee will take these items down to Hope Mission. YOU can help make a difference! The mission is trying to raise money to build a shelter for the homeless women in our area. Your donations will help them towards this goal!

It is such a blessing to work alongside our many talented volunteers for VBS. Whether you are working in VBS, praying for our VBS, providing cookies for everyone, or giving to the church so that our VBS can be funded, YOU are playing a very vital part in the success of our VBS!!! Thank you for being a part of such a special week in our church!

Please continue to keep our VBS in your prayers! Seeds are being planted this week that will last for a lifetime. Those seeds must be watered and fertilized to grow. Lives are being changed! God knows what is going on in each child’s heart! I am so proud to be a part of a church that supports Vacation Bible School. Churches around the country are canceling VBS because they cannot get enough volunteers to work. Churches in Morehead City are doing the same. If we do not invest in our young people, our church will be in serious trouble. Thank you, First Baptist, for being such a dedicated congregation for God!

In Christ, Diane Poag, VBS Director
