Open a new designDo this by •Clicking on file•Click on new•Select design•Click on o.k.

Selecting the lateral workplane•Do this by Clicking on the workplane selector•Then click twice quickly on the lateral workplane once it has gone bright blue•The properties box should appear•Click on o.k.

We now need to view all the workplanes

•Look directly onto this workplane by rotating the design using the keyboard arrows.•Create a new sketch on the lateral workplane by clicking on workplane menu then clicking on new sketch•Make sure filled is ticked and name it wing profile. Check lateral is selected.

•Draw a circle by clicking on the circle tool then clicking and holding the left hand button and dragging the mouse•Give it a dimension by selecting the dimension tool and passing the mouse over the circle, when it goes bright blue click and drag to the side. A dimension should appear.

•Select the dimension to change it by selecting the annotation selector and clicking twice quickly on the dimension. A properties box should appear

•Change the length to 10 mm and click on o.k.

•Add a curved line starting at the circle. Do this by clicking on the curved line tool and clicking on the edge of the circle Hold and drag the mouse to draw a line.•Give it a dimension by selecting the dimension tool, clicking on the circle so it goes red, click and hold on the end of the curve and drag off above.

•Select the annotation selector and click twice quickly on the dimension when it goes bright blue. The properties box should appear•Change the length to 50 and click on o.k.

•Add a curve to the bottom by clicking on the curve tool and join the shapes •Cut away the circle portion not needed using the delete line segment tool. Click on it, move to the circle. When the portion goes bright blue press delete.•The shape should fill, if not zoom in using shift – Z and check for stray bits of lines. Use the delete segment tool to remove them.

•The shape should have filled, if not check for gaps or stray bits. Join gaps by selecting the curve,pressing delete and re-drawing it•Extrude the shape by clicking on the extrude tool•Make sure add material is selected. Drag the shape the required length using the yellow handle

View the wing from above, use the keyboard arrows to rotate it

•Select the base workplane by clicking on the workplane selector then clicking on the base workplane twice quickly•Add a sketch to it by selecting new sketch from the workplane menu.•Make sure filled is selected and call it wing above. Make sure base is selected.

•Draw half the wing using straight lines and curves, click on the straight line tool and circle tool to do this. •Use the delete line segment to remove unwanted sections such as these, click on the tool, pass over the segment and when it goes bright blue press delete N.B.Be careful not to pick up the side wing profile, use the selector tool and hold down shift to collect the lines individually if this is a problem

•Draw a straight line through the middle of the wing using the straight line tool•Select Mirror from the line menu

•Make sure the lines tab is selected•Select the wing lines by clicking on the shape selector then clicking, holding and dragging a box around the wing lines•Select the axis tab and click on the centre line.

•Select the rectangle tool•Click and hold then drag a rectangle around the wing profile, it should fill.

Use the delete segment tool to cut away the centre lines. When the line goes bright blue click delete. This will take a while because the axis and original lines need removing

•If the wing extrusion does not reach the end of the shape change it by clicking features in this menu and clicking twice on the first extrusion•This should produce a properties box, change the distance•Click on o.k.

•Select extrude.•Make sure subtract material is selected.•Pull the extrusion over the wing using the yellow handle.

•Select the end surfaces using the surface selector. Click on the end of the wing.•Select round edges•Choose a radius that is small enough for the edges to support. Type it in and click on o.k.

•Rotate the wing using the keyboard arrows to view it from above•Select the workplane menu and click on new sketch• Make sure filled is ticked and select the base workplane from the drop down menu. Call it hole

•Click and hold on the edge line and drag the dimension downwards

•Do the same to add a dimension between the circle and the top edge

Add second hole by selecting the circle tool, clicking on the drawing and dragging

•Add a dimension by clicking on the dimension tool then clicking and hold on the circle when it goes bright blue, drag to the side. •Double click on the dimension that appears to select and change it.

Draw a dimension between the centres of the circles. Do this by;•Clicking on the dimension tool•Clicking on the first circle when the black square appears•Clicking on the second circle when the black square appears, hold and drag the dimension that is created to the side.

•Select the annotation selector and double click on the dimension. A property box should appear•Change the length in the length box

•Add a dimension from the wing edge to the centre of the hole•Select the dimension by double clicking on it with the annotation tool•Make the length match the top distance•Click on o.k.

•Extrude the holes upward through the wing using the extrude tool, make sure the subtract material button is pressed. •Click and drag the yellow handle

Save copy as Top wing so you have an identical wings if you decide to make a bi-plane•Click on file•Click on save copy as•Enter top wing as file name•Click on save

•Rotate the drawing using the keyboard arrow keys•Select the base workplane by clicking twice quickly on it.

•Rotate the wing so you can look straight on to it•Select the workplane menu and click on new workplane•Make sure offset is selected and call it joint block•Use the yellow handle to drag it so it is just below the wing.

•Rotate the wing using the keyboard arrows.•Select the workplane menu and click on new sketch•Make sure filled is clicked and it is on the joint block workplane •Call it block

•Zoom in using shift – Z and draw a rectangle using the rectangle tool•Click where the top corner will be and drag the pointer to the bottom corner.

Adjust the sides of the rectangle so they line up with the cut outs. •Select the shape selector•Move it over the lines of the rectangle•When it goes blue click once to select it then click, hold and drag the line with the mouse•When it’s in the right position let go.

When you have repositioned all the lines extrude the rectangle to the top of the wing. Do this by; •Clicking on extrude•Make sure add material is selected•Drag the rectangle using the yellow handle

Rotate the wing to check the shape using the keyboard arrows, create a file called plane and save to it.
