manageIn the late1970s, the so-called developed world had manoeuvred itself into an economic and social dead end: in Britain, unemployment was on the rise and with it the sense of political frustration.
London streets were restless. There were no guns, but there was a lot of hard street action, between punks and skins mostly. For a couple of glorious years, London was the center of the cultural universe with its libertarian sense of enfran-chisement. Anyone could do it, and it seemed like almost everyone did - and had fun doing so.

PUNKPOETSBy 1976, punk poets like John Cooper Clarkebecame the support act for many seminal punk bands such as the Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks and Joy Division. His biting, satirical, political and very funny verse delivered in a rapid-fire performance style. Before long, John was held his own gigs and drew huge crowds of fans.

Articles about bands alternated with cartoons, references to TV culture, and features bristling with rebellious teen attitude. There is little doubt that it was Punk Magazine that fleshed out the term “punk rock”and linked it with the music at CBGB.
