2.) Purpose:
The English intonded to put the DIEPPE Dofonst: Zone out of acticn for the.
longest possible tim. It \V&S also their intention to immobilize for aome
time. to come all military installations, coastal battt.rius, radio stations,.ai~finlds, ships, as well as all utilities (Gas, Elootrieity, Harbour,
Crance, Railroads).
Furthormore, they envisaged taking the larg~ct possiblo number o'prisoners plue a large ~rietf of military dOQuments, weapons and ~ipmont.
After completing their mission, thoy were to re-umbe.r):: by 1530 hours.

6.) Prepnretion:
Tho undertaking vms prepared moat conscientiously. The Operation Ord~r
is very dotailed (121 typewritten pa.ges) and, th~refore difficult to visualize
ns a whole. Tho many code worde us~d meke it difficult to grusp in its Lntir~
ty, and even more 80 to use as e basis for issuing orders in battle. Tho
plar~ing dovm to the last datail limite thu independ~ncc of net ion of the sub
ordinnto officer and loaves him no opportunity to make indopendent docisions

The Canadians on the whole fought badly and surrendered afterwards in ...
swarms.
On tho other hand, the combat efficiency of the Commandos was very
high. They v!ere well trained und fought with real spirit. It is reported
that they showed great skill in climbing the stoep coastal cliffs.
8.) Succoss of the Undortaking~
The Third Commando was ropulsed at BEfl.NEVAL by the Naval Signal
Station and the Second Battery (Br. Troop) of the 770th Anny Coast Artil~
lory Bettnlion. 80 men ~cre takon prisonor by our Division.
The ROEl Regiment of Cnn~da and tho Bleck Watch woro unsuccossful
in their attompt to tnks the strongpoint at PUlTS. They w6re cut down by
