Analysis of the film poster Gravity

This is a film poster for the popular thriller film Gravity. We can see from the main background of the image that the setting of this film is clearly in space further supported by the title of the film which is Gravity. The font that is used is very bold and therefore successfully contrasts to the darker background. The way the letters are spaced out also gives us a clue as to the characters surroundings, reflecting the presence of a lot of empty space. We can see the main character looking almost as if he/she is falling into this impending darkness; the spaces between the lettering also reflecting the length of time without escape. The way the character is reaching out almost as if he is trying to reach the earth reflects the significant distance between him/her and the isolation of space, being pulled further and further away from the life they once knew. We can also vaguely see what looks to be a long rope/wire which seems to be unattached from anything, subtly giving us a clue that something may have happen or an accident may have occurred which results in this character being hurled into the depths of space. The main actors in this film are clearly written on the poster above the title of the film. This will therefore attract an audience who are fans of these people and want to see more of their work. The light from the sun is centered in the middle of the poster in order to grab the audiences attention as they are first drawn to this. A connotation of this could be that there is an element of happiness and hope within this film. The released date along with further information is placed at the bottom of the poster, the actors names and director just above and the tagline positioned at the top of the poster. When looking at the tagline Dont let go, we can see that again the spacing between the words could reflect that he is being pulled further and further away into space, each word is further away from the last, with each second drifting further away.
