THIRTY SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR C 10TH NOVEMBER 2019 Spirit of togetherness For some people, life in general can also be very difficult, tough and trying, like going through an army obstacle course that seems to never end with challenges at every bend. Unfortunately, many people are left to navigate and negotiate this road of life alone. Such people may include those who are on the fringes of society, struggling with disabilities, addictions, financial and material difficulties and the elderly. Such feelings of isolation and abandonment in life can also be felt by those who seemingly are successful in life and on the outside look as though “they have it all.” They could even be sitting next to you in the church pews every weekend. As people of faith, we are encouraged to look out for one another and to be that shoulder to cry on or that listening ear. We are encouraged to be “buddies” to each other in our families, in our communities and also where we come together to share, be strengthened and supported in our faith. As buddies, we support and encourage one another through each challenge and walk together around each bend. The legacy of a good Christian life or a good life in general is not so much in what we leave behind but more in how many people we did not leave behind. It is perhaps better measured by how many people we have included in our lives, those we have welcomed with open arms and open hearts into our lives. Every day, we encounter people that perhaps just need a bright smile, a cheery hello to help them get through a particular moment, to help them endure another difficult day. It is also important to allow ourselves to be supported and to receive encouragement from others. We need to be open to allow others to offer us a helping hand when things in our own lives take a bad turn or when we take an unexpected tumble. Let us be buddies to each other, let us be supportive, encouraging, positive and open to each other. As in the army as in life, let us together face the tough and difficult times together. Together, when the going gets tough, the spirit of togetherness becomes stronger than ever. THIRTY SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

YEAR C 10TH NOVEMBER 2019

Spirit of togetherness

For some people, life in general can also be

very difficult, tough and trying, like going

through an army obstacle course that seems

to never end with challenges at every bend.

Unfortunately, many people are left to

navigate and negotiate this road of life alone.

Such people may include those who are on the

fringes of society, struggling with disabilities, addictions, financial and material

difficulties and the elderly. Such feelings of isolation and abandonment in life can also

be felt by those who seemingly are successful in life and on the outside look as though

“they have it all.” They could even be sitting next to you in the church pews every

weekend.

As people of faith, we are encouraged to look out for one another and to be that

shoulder to cry on or that listening ear. We are encouraged to be “buddies” to each

other in our families, in our communities and also where we come together to share,

be strengthened and supported in our faith. As buddies, we support and encourage

one another through each challenge and walk together around each bend.

The legacy of a good Christian life or a good life in general is not so much in what we

leave behind but more in how many people we did not leave behind. It is perhaps

better measured by how many people we have included in our lives, those we have

welcomed with open arms and open hearts into our lives. Every day, we encounter

people that perhaps just need a bright smile, a cheery hello to help them get through

a particular moment, to help them endure another difficult day.

It is also important to allow ourselves to be supported and to receive encouragement

from others. We need to be open to allow others to offer us a helping hand when

things in our own lives take a bad turn or when we take an unexpected tumble.

Let us be buddies to each other, let us be supportive, encouraging, positive and open

to each other. As in the army as in life, let us together face the tough and difficult

times together. Together, when the going gets tough, the spirit of togetherness

becomes stronger than ever. Mark Chia SsSR ©Redemptorists 2019

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD

Into your hands, O Lord,

we humbly entrust

our brothers and sisters.

In this life you embraced them

with your tender love;

deliver them now from every evil

and bid them enter eternal rest.

The old order has passed away:

welcome them into paradise,

where there will be no sorrow,

no weeping nor pain,

but the fullness of peace and joy

with your Son and the Holy Spirit

forever and ever.

Amen.

PROCESSIONAL HYMN

Sing to the Mountains Refrain: Sing to the mountains sing to the sea. Raise your voices, lift your hearts. This is the day the Lord has made. Let all the earth rejoice. I will give thanks to you, my Lord. You have answered my plea. You have saved my soul from death. You are my strength and my song. R Copyright© 1975 R J Dufford New Dawn Music

MEMORIAL ACCLAMATION(ICEL)

We proclaim your death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come again.

GIFTS PROCESSION Be Still my Soul Be still, my soul, the Lord is on your side, bear patiently the cross of grief or pain. Leave to your God to order and provide, in every change He faithful will remain. Be still my soul, your best, your heavenly friend

through thorny ways leads to a joyful end. Be still, my soul, your God will undertake to guide the future as he has the past. Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake, all now mysterious shall be clear at last.

Be still, my soul, the tempests still obey his voice, who ruled them once on Galilee.

COMMUNION PROCESSION

As We Gather at Your Table

As we gather at your table,

as we listen to your word, help us know, O God, your presence let our hearts and minds be stirred. Nourish us with sacred story till we claim it as our own. Teach us through this holy banquet how to make Love's victory known.

Turn our worship into witness in the sacrament of life. Send us forth to love and serve you,

bringing peace

where there is strife. Give us, Christ, your great compassion to forgive as you forgave, may we still behold your image in the world you died to save.

Grant us vision, gracious Spirit to seek guests to share that feast where triumphant love will welcome those who had been last and least. There no more will envy blind us nor will pride our peace destroy, as we join with saints and angels to repeat the sounding joy.

I may enter your brightness. Search me, try me, consume all my darkness.

PRAYER FOR RAIN

O merciful God, our Creator,

you are the source of all life. It is through your divine providence

that the wonder and splendour of all

creation surround us.

We pray to you/ to provide us with sufficient rain/

We also pray for all those/

who are suffering from natural disasters,

especially the victims

of the recent bushfires.

May they look to you/ for the

strength / to restore their lives/

and heal their wounded land.

May your grace refresh our souls.

We ask for these blessings/

through the intercession of Mary,

Queen of Heaven and Earth. Amen.
